KITT vs KARR

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 3: KITT vs KARR
KITT vs KARR

On a southern California beach, a couple (John Stanton and his girlfriend Mandy) make an amazing discovery - a car buried in the sand. It it KARR (see "Trust Doesn't Rust"), which reactivates once taken out. KARR quickly turns to John as his new driver, and immediately begins causing havok (including a traffic accident which nearly lands Michael in jail). At John's workplace, KARR notes that Eddie (John's boss) has a pacemaker and that the incapacitation of Eddie would allow John to purchase the shop. KARR causes Eddie to have a heart attack and offers John the way to get his money, but first KARR needs something. KARR takes John straight to the FLAG semi and smashes in, stealing alpha circuits and a modified laser Bonnie created to use against KARR. With a new appearance, KARR wires into an ATM machine and draws money out for John, then takes John back to his workplace. John refuses to have any more to do with the car. Meanwhile, Mandy tells Michael where to find John's workplace. Eddie and KARR are scheming together to rob an armored truck of gold bricks, but KARR has other plans, and they include John, not Eddie. Michael arrives and is unable to stop KARR before the car gets away, but does find out about the planned robbery from Eddie. Later, KARR uses John's voice to kidnap Mandy and uses her to get John back. As the armored truck approaches, KARR destroys a bridge around it, pinning it in one place as bait. Michael and KITT arrive and convince KARR to let John and Mandy go - KARR only wants Michael and KITT. After using a reflector to destroy KARR's primary systems using his own laser, Michael has KITT turbo boost through the car, destroying it. Michael buys Eddie's shop for John using John's "reward money." But as the episode ends, we see that part of KARR's CPU is still operational...

THOUGHTS:
-Nice show! KARR is much more sinister this time around, and the ending has some great special effects (the turbo boost is great). While it was obvious in "Trust Doesn't Rust" that KARR was just another model of KITT, here he really does seem like a different car.

-Paul Frees now does the voice of KARR, replacing Peter Cullen.

New features on KITT:
+Hi-Tensile Reflectors (reflect laser blasts).

FAVORITE QUOTE:
"You're never going to be free until you defeat us."
-Michael to KARR

FAVORITE QUOTE EVIL!
"Your impudence is amusing. You are in no position to negotiate terms."
-KARR to Michael

NITS:
-So how DID KARR survive the explosion at the end of "Trust Doesn't Rust"?

-KARR's scanner is yellow (some say this is due to the long immersion in salt water...it was red before).

-KARR turns himself on then off then on again.

-KARR's voice modulator panel is black, where in "Trust Doesn't Rust" it was silver.

-KARR's dash is more like KITT's from season 2 than from season 1.

-KARR's licence plate read "KNIGHT" in "Trust Doesn't Rust" but here it reads "KARR."

-KARR's voice is different.

-Somehow KARR gets the images of Eddie and John while locked inside a garage.

-One shot of KARR starting up is actually a season 1 shot of KITT starting up.

-KARR smashes into the FLAG semi just to steal alpha circuits, but somehow leaves with a different underside which is now silverish.

-Whenever KARR turbo boosts, it makes KITT's current turbo boost sound, not the "woosh" sound from season 1.

-The last shot of KARR's parts shows a black front bumper, but it was silver by this point in the show.

-So the Foundation just left KARR's parts under the bridge?
By Scott McClenny on Friday, March 28, 2003 - 9:37 am:

Why didn't Michael simply pick up KARR's cpu unit
after the battle and take it back to the Foundation to have Bonnie dismantle it for good?

John seems to have gotten off lightly as he doesn
t seem to have gotten as much as a ticket for his
little escapade with KARR.Perhaps Michael was able to convince the authorities and/or Devon of
John's innoncence?

And what happened to Eddie?
He obviously was less innocent than John and the
armored car heist was HIS idea.

In my opinion, this was the best episode.

It was so cool hearing Paul Frees again as KARR

I've just read that KARR will be making an appearance on the new show. Maybe some of the old cast will too. How cool is that?

By Aguy on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 - 11:01 pm:

Depends on how and why they do it. Ratings can't be slipping that bad already that they have to do those kinda stunts and can't stand on their own. And besides will it be the new KARR based on a mustang or will we possibly hopefully get to see the old classic bird KARR?

By Chris Todaro on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 - 5:22 am:

The last time we saw KARR his "body" was destroyed:

He would most likely show up as a disembodied program that tries to take over KITT

By Aguy on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 - 6:21 am:

So he would be a ghost KARR?

By Chris Todaro on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 - 7:10 am:

Possibly.

I did wonder if the "Sidewinder" mentioned at the end of the pilot movie would turn out to be KARR. (Michael defeated KARR the first time by forcing KARR to veer off to the side of the road and crash down onto the beach).

By ScottN on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 - 11:31 am:

But if KARR shows up as a "ghost", wouldn't that make this show "Ghost Rider"?

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

By Chris Todaro on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 - 12:47 pm:

No need to apologize, Scott. You made me chuckle.
