Lost Knight

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 3: Lost Knight
Lost Knight

As Devon and Bonnie witness the demolition of a building via a new explosive called "nitro-plastique," two thieves named Bobby and Julius steal a supply of the stuff nearby. Michael and KITT give chase, but the thieves escape by using some of the stolen explosive to blow a power line near KITT, disabling the car. As Michael stumbles away to get help, KITT drives off on his own, with a damaged memory and a destroyed homing device. Meanwhile, a kid named Doug Wayneright sees the thieves unloading the stolen explosive into another truck. Doug gets away, but won't talk about the thieves with anyone, not even Michael, who arrives later in a jeep. On his way home, Doug makes another discovery - KITT. Doug befriends the car when he realizes it's memory is damaged and the pair soon form a bond with each other. Later, the Foundation finally has more infomation on the thieves. Conrad Mars, a suspected explosives dealer, has just flown in from Texas and may have a connection with the thieves. In fact, Mars is setting up a deal with them where Mars will blow a dam with some of the explosive as cover for the theieves to rob a museum across town. Michael asks Doug's widowed mother where Doug might be and soon heads to the mountains, where he finds Doug (in KITT) being chased by Bobby and Julius. Unfortunately, Michael can't do much because KITT turbo boosts out of range and the theives blow his jeep's tire. All is not lost, however: Bonnie has designed a new memory module for KITT, and the Foundation has found Conrad Mars' rented apartment address. After Michael puts Mars on notice, Mars leaves town, leaving the thieves looking to get out while they still can - with Doug if possible. They find Doug the next morning visiting with KITT, kidnap him, and tie him up near the dam, which they plan to blow themselves. Michael finds KITT, and knowing the car won't harm him, installs the new memory module. Doug is rescued, the explosive diffused and the thieves caught, with a little help from Doug. As the episode ends, KITT and Doug promise to visit each other soon.

THOUGHTS:
-Okay episode, not much going on but still decent.

-I don't usually mention this, but a lot of guest-star "bad guys" in this series also played thugs on another hit 80's action show, "The A-Team." For instance, the guys who played Bobby and Julius in this episode were features baddies on "The A-Team."

-KITT calls Doug Elliott by mistake once in this episode. Does this actually have any significance or was it really just some mistake?

New feature on KITT:
+Evade (in this episode, KITT spins around to create a dust cloud)
+New memory, designed by Bonnie (5000 Megs, baby!)

FAVORITE QUOTE:
"If I may be so bold...what on Earth were you doing down there?"
-KITT to Michael, after Michael installs KITT's new memory

NITS:
-Many of the opening shots of KITT are from previous episodes, including at least 2 shots from the last episode ("Dead of Knight").

-The camera disturbs the leaves on the tree in the shot of Bobby and Julius taken from above.

-KITT is flat on the turbo boost over the gorge.

-The turbo boost over the gorge is from "Nobody Does It Better."

-One shot of KITT speeding directly away from the camera is from season 1!

-KITT is flat on the turbo boost over the jeep.

Having had Michael loose his memories earlier it now seems that KITT gets a turn at being amnesiac.

Isn't Michael putting his neck on the line when he
opens KITT's door to get out once the lines stop
frizting KITT?
From my understanding you aren't SUPPOSED to get
out of a car if a power line falls near you but wait until the power company can get there and work on the line.

KITT manages to "freeze" the timer on the bomb just at the one second mark.
