Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 3: Knight By A Nose
Knight By A Nose

Maxine Flemming, an old friend of Michael's, practices for an important horserace a few days early. Her partner, Tommy Lee Burgess and the local veterinarian, Harley Thorpe, look in on her rounds but before her next lap, Thorpe injects the horse with a tranquilizer without Max knowing it. The horse (King Jack) collapses with a broken leg and Thorpe apparently shoots him to "end his suffering." As Michael is in town, he checks in on his old friend but finds her packing, ready to leave. KITT scans the track and finds a shard of the syringe used to inject King Jack, but no blood whatsoever. In fact, Burgess is in heavy gambling debt with a racketeer named Randy Cavanaugh and he faked King Jack's death to try and get a share of the insurance money (King Jack is in fact alive and well). Visiting Thorpe's office, Michael finds the gun used to shoot King Jack but it apparently only shot a blank before. Max is nearly killed as Burgess escapes from the area with King Jack. Michael poses as a rich gambler and tries to get in on Cavanaugh's schemes, but is spotted by one of Cavanaugh's men and nearly killed before KITT can rescue him. King Jack escapes from Burgess and heads back to Max's, but when he gets there Cavanaugh and Burgess are already there. They kidnap both the horse and Max, and Michael and KITT soon give chase. Cavanaugh is run off the road, Burgess is knocked out, and both King Jack and Max are rescued without suffering any harm.

THOUGHTS:
-Decent show.

-Some fun as KITT gives tips to the gambler ("Let's just say I have a hot system.") and with KITT losing out later on.

New features on KITT:
+Auto-Currency Dispenser
+Carbon Dioxide Dispenser (puts out fires)

FAVORITE QUOTE:
"Michael, can I ask you a favor? Lend me 20 dollars?"
-KITT, after losing Foundation money via the gambler's bets

NITS:
-On the way to Cavanaugh's ranch, one of the shots showing KITT drive by a white fence actually comes from the first-season episode "Just My Bill."

-KITT somehow gets an image of Cavanaugh's escaping limo and trailer from quite a distance away (and from the front, while KITT is tailing them).

-When KITT gets rammed in the back by Cavanaugh's limo the first time, you can see a chip of black plastic fly off of KITT's rear bumper.
