Buy Out

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 3: Buy Out
Buy Out

During a demonstration of a heavily armored limosine, one of the rockets which was to cause moderate damage actually destroys the left side of the limo, killing the driver inside. Melanie "Mel" Mitchell does armor plating work and was actually rallying her fellow workers to buy out the company ("Armor Built") before the plating apparently buckled during the accident. She doesn't believe it was an accident. Michael gets the workers together and promises them he will personally drive a fixed limo after gathering up the buyers again. Gene Hanson, current owner of the company, has been using the company as a front to further his ties to the mob by ordering inferior parts and killing off the drivers inside (he doesn't want the buyout). During the second run, Michael narrowly avoids the rocket blast and wins back the buyers. Hanson offers Mel a large sum to leave the company, which she refuses. Michael returns just as Mel is walking out and Michael is locked in a car paint drier by Hanson, but luckily KITT and Mel arrive in time to help him. Hanson heads to the testing range and tries to kill Michael using an armored tank, but using KITT's superior abilities and a turbo boost, Michael is able to stop him. Mel becomes the new owner of the company.

THOUGHTS:
-Good episode, the end reminded me of "Deadly Maneuvers" only here it was a one-on-one battle.

-Fun stuff with Eddie offering to buy KITT and a similar circumstance happening with Lilah Graham at the end of the episode.

FAVORITE QUOTE:
"Michael, that offer she made...do you think she knows I'm air-conditioned?"
-KITT, about Lilah's $25,000 offer to buy KITT out

NITS:
-Both times the limo is fired upon by the heavy machine gun (at the beginning of the show and later with Michael at the wheel), you can see black dots where the sparks fly off, and yet later shots show the hood as perfectly smooth and silver.

-Robin Dearden played Liberty Cox in "Give Me Liberty...Or Give Me Death" (season 1).

-When the time for Michael's run is moved up, Michael asks KITT to get done with his analysis of the limo's door as soon as possible. KITT says he will "accelerate computation" but shouldn't the computation already have been undergone at the fastest rate?

-When Michael is in the paint drier, why doesn't he at least take his jacket off? It's leather, and those things get hot FAST.

-When Michael backs KITT out of the garage (after being freed from the paint drier), one shot shows him flooring KITT's accelerator pedal but the "pedal lights" sound effect is missing.
