KITTnap

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 4: KITTnap
KITTnap

Two inmates escape from a local prison by stealing a car. One of the inmates is Jeffrey Cavanaugh, once part of a crime syndicate, and a man Michael put in prison a year earlier. Cavanaugh was broken out by Julian Martin - Cavanaugh has evidence linking Martin's illegal money laundering operation and Martin agreed to break him out and pay him off to make sure Cavanaugh doesn't testify. Needing an edge against a pressing Michaek Knight, Martin learns about Karen Forester, who has been taking notes for a criminology thesis by riding with Michael. Michael is called by Martin, who tells Michael that Karen has been kidnapped. When Michael returns to Karen's apartment, he only finds a handprint on a wall - varnish from a marina property. Karen soon calls Michael with a speech from Martin, but secretly warns Michael using a latin phrase that the location she has called him to is a trap. Unfortunately, KITT is caught in the trap (a cargo container) and taken to Martin. When Martin opens the container to shoot at KITT (he thinks Michael is still inside), KITT activates his homing signal, and Michael and RC3 head out in the FLAG semi to save him. Michael is able to free KITT and Karen, but not before Cavanaugh is killed by Martin. Martin learned about where the evidence is hidden - with Cavanaugh's friend Jodi Hopkins. Jodi tells Martin where the evidence is hidden, but also tells Michael once he arrives. Michael engages SPM to take KITT to a parking garage, where the evidence is stashed inside a brown chevy, and Michael and KITT are able to stop Martin before he escapes with it. As the episode ends, Karen jokes about what her thesis will be (see below).

THOUGHTS:
-Good episode. Used all the main characters, had nice development for the secondary characters (Martin, Karen) and some nice shots (KITT turbo boosting from one garage rooftop to another, KITT in SPM, C Mode KITT...).

-The sound effects in the fourth season title sequence seem to be a second or two "off."

-Some cute moments with KITT helping the dog (Scruffy) hide from the catcher. It was funny when Devon called - "Michael, you're looking a little scruffy this morning..." Not to mention "itchy" Michael!

Star Trek Actor Watch: Robert O'Reilly (as Snyder) played Gowron on TNG and DS9. He was also in the KR episode "A Good Knight's Work" as Jake Simpson.

FAVORITE QUOTE:
"Michael Knight, the sexiest crime fighter in America."
-Karen, joking about what her thesis will be about

NITS:
-So does KITT have the molecular bonded shell again or not?

-Martin calls Michael "Nine" instead of "Knight" at least twice in this episode.

-Michael just happens to find a grappling hook when looking for KITT.

-Also, Michael throws the hook with bare hands and the very next shot shows him wearing gloves.

-As KITT drives around to stop some of Martin's men in the marina property, you can see skid marks already on the floor from previous takes.

-When Michael engages KITT's SPM in the marina property, the stock shots show KITT entering SPM in the open air even though he is still indoors. Also, when Michael reaches over to push the buttton he is wearing gloves but in the stock shot of his hand pressing the button he isn't wearing gloves.
