Many Happy Returns

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 4: Many Happy Returns
Many Happy Returns

While Michael is on his birthday vacation, a high-powered hovercraft is stolen from Lowell Industries. Devon sets up a meeting with Amy Lowell and Vince White - Lowell Industries needs the hovercraft back, especially since it's government contracts ran out when Amy's father died. KITT scans some paint residue from diving tanks on the pier and Michael heads Quincy Divers, where Henry Qunicy claims that three divers came by mysteriously to buy the equipment several days earlier. In fact, when Michael goes to check out the address, he is nearly killed. Once Michael returns to Quincy's, he is shot at and Quincy is killed in the act. As a plan to catch the thiefs in the act, Michael has Bonnie and RC3 set up a radio frequency jammer. Since the hovercraft runs on a specific frequency, the lack of transmission will force the thieves to return to Lowell Industries for replacement parts. Once the thives arrive, Michael and KITT trap them, but Vince turns on Amy, forcing Michael to let him go. Vince has in fact been working an arms trade with one Mr. Kleist and decides to escape with Kleist and the hovercraft. Michael and KITT give chase, and after withstanding a barrage of rocket fire from the hovercraft, are able to use the grappling hook to trap the thieves once and for all. Lowell Industries signs a new contract for hovercraft production, and as the episode ends, Michael has a little party with the FLAG team before going off on a real vacation.

THOUGHTS:
-Okay episode, a little boring at times but still exciting towards the end.

-Fun stuff with KITT and Chuck (at least Chuck wasn't as annoying as most of the people who approach KITT).

-And the moments where RC3 plugs in Bonnie's equipment...

-Star Trek actor watch: Peter Mark Richman (as Kleist) played Offenhouse in "The Neutral Zone" (TNG). He was also in "Goliath Returns, Parts 1 and 2" as Dr. Klaus Bergstrom.

FAVORITE QUOTE:
"Oh, the testing range. How romantic."
-Michael to Amy, after realizing that Devon has set him up once again.

NITS:
-Peter Mark Richman was in the series before (see above!). No mistaking that face.

-The second shot of KITT after exiting the FLAG semi comes from the season 3 main title sequence.

-KITT's hood is open during the shooting from Kleist's men.

-As KITT monitors the escape of Vince, the camera angle is from way above KITT's position.

-KITT's hood (and entire front end!) are popped open while Kleist fires on him with the hovercraft rockets.

-Michael says it's been 4 years since the FLAG team has been together but technically RC3 has only been there a few months (I Know, picky picky...).

KITT's hood is not open, that is what is known as the "bullet shell" created by Jack Gill. It is a protective urethane shell that fits over the car and side mirrors that is used for intense impacts and bullet spark squib effects whenever KITT is shot at by bullets, rockets, or other projectiles.
