Hills of Fire

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Knight Rider: Season 4: Hills of Fire
Hills of Fire

In the Douglas Ridge area, a man in an ATV uses napalm to create a massive fire in the brush. The man's name is Manuel Gomez (a former soccer player now known for stealing legal drugs and selling them on the black market) and he is working for Jay Wilson, a smuggler. Michael isn't able to catch Gomez since KITT loses traction on the sloped mountainside, but Michael does save a boy named Daryl Staples. Once Michael takes Daryl back home to his foster mother, he learns that Deputy Clark wants full jurisdiction with Michael out of the hunt for the arsonists. The estate planner of the area, Sandra Rusk, awards jurisdiction rights to Clark but changes her mind when confronted by Michael. Soon Daryl is found investigating the ATV tracks and is jailed by Clark. After Michael visits Daryl, he escapes, but Michael believes he is innocent and Clark has been using excessive force with no evidence to back him up. Soon, another pharmacy is hit, but Michael and KITT give chase. To gain an edge on Wilson, they make him think they have fallen behind - ony they haven't. Michael uses Bonnie's new invention - a Satellite Infiltration Drone (SID) to track Wilson's getaway. Eventually Michael finds out that Rusk is also working with Wilson and Gomez to deal out the stolen drugs - the drugs were the main deal and the arson was just insurance. SID is able to record the deal but is destroyed when found out. Daryl helps Michael stop Wilson and the others and clear his name with the police. As the episode ends, Daryl gets ready to go to high school and a new SID is built.

THOUGHTS:
-Nice episode. Some excellent special effects.

New features on KITT:
+Hi-Traction Tire Spikes.
+Satellite Infiltration Drone (SID) - With Audio/Video/Heat Sensors/Homing Pulse.

Star Trek Actress Watch: Nana Visitor (as Sandra Rusk) played Major/Colonel Kira Nerys on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."

-Most of the sound effects made by SID come from classic "Star Trek" - including some of the bridge background sounds (like the sensor "pings").

FAVORITE QUOTE:
"Well, it seems that SID did prove to be useful."
-KITT, after SID tapes the drug deal.

NITS:
-Somehow KITT gets an image of Gomez from the passenger seat of the ATV, even though KITT was behind the ATV the entire time!

-The controller Bonnie uses to move SID around with is actual an rc-car controller!

-KITT's tire spikes do not show up in the long shots.

-Also, the tires are suddenly clean in the closeups (when the spikes activate/deactivate).
