In the opening teaser, Rachel, who just found out about Monica and Chandler’s secret relationship at the end of the previous episode, wants Joey to tell her everything he knows about it, including details like when they first kissed and whether Chandler is romantic with Monica. But three episodes ago, in The One With Ross's Sandwich(5.9), Rachel witnessed Joey brining home a date and finding the living room filled with romantic candles and a video camera that Chandler and Monica were using for a romantic evening. At first, Joey covered for them by conceding that they were his, but at the end of the episode, the story given to Rachel and the others was that Monica tried to entice Joey with them. Wouldn’t Joey have cleared the air by now, and explained that the men’s underwear in Rachel and Monica’s apartment and the other things were aspects of Chandler and Monica’s relationship? Doesn’t Rachel consider candles littering the living room romantic?

In the previous episode, The One With All The Resolutions(5.11), Rachel overheard a phone conversation between Monica and Chandler in which, talking about their pet nicknames for each other, they exposed their secret relationship. When Monica called Chandler “Mr. Big,” Rachel freaked out and hung up the phone. When she confronts Monica in this episode, she tells Monica this, and Monica tries to cover it up by saying that if Rachel listened to the rest of it, she would’ve heard that she was really calling Chandler “Mr. Bigot,” and that she simply didn’t hear the second syllable in the word “Bigot.” The only problem is, Monica is assuming that the exact moment Rachel hung up was when Monica said the word “big.” For all she knows, Rachel hung up a second or two after this, and would’ve heard that she simply said, “big.”

I also noted this under The One With Monica and Chandler's Wedding, but it's worth pointing out that this episode is the only time that the others seem scared of Ross' fighting ability. Of course, it may just be the treatment for his 'rage problem' that are apparently also giving him mood swings...

Sorry, that post was for The One With The Girl Who Hits Joey. :(

Re the 'Mr Big' thing...I think it was just the first explanation that popped into Monica's head, and by a fortuitous circumstance it happened to fit (as we know Rachel stopped listening out of shock at that point).

I'd have quite liked to see Chandler awkwardly telling a racist joke in order to cover up (maybe just the back end of it, so we don't see which group he's slurring).
