Phoebe mentions that one of her perks as a massuese is she gets a 401- the audience wentbonkers. Can someone (possibly the great God of the Friends Board) explain that gag to a non-American?

By LUIGI NOVI on Monday, September 29, 2003 - 9:27 pm:

Sorry, Rodney, but I'm stumped. Perhaps giving us the context of the quote (like the situation, and what was said before and after it) might help. :)

By ScottN on Monday, September 29, 2003 - 10:27 pm:

You're sure it wasn't a 401-K????

By LUIGI NOVI on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 - 8:27 am:

Well, that's what I thought, but Rodney says the audience erupted in laughter. This is why I asked for the context. Was the audience all composed of tax attorneys?

By Rodney Hrvatin on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 - 10:41 pm:

the actual quote is

"...and they give me benfits like a mdeical, and dental and a 401k (pronounced "four-oh-wunk)

By LUIGI NOVI on Wednesday, October 01, 2003 - 9:25 am:

Aha. THAT's the joke. She pronounced the "K" phonetically, instead of by name.

By Rodney Hrvatin on Wednesday, October 01, 2003 - 7:28 pm:

ok- but what exactly IS a 401k?

By ScottN on Wednesday, October 01, 2003 - 7:58 pm:

Retirement plan.

Great Ross Line:
(After Joey comments that it's so confusing because the Met sounds so much like the Mets.)
Yes I'm sure there's a lot of p***ed off Baseball fans over there.

By LUIGI NOVI on Tuesday, March 08, 2005 - 9:23 pm:

Ya know, I expect Joey not to figure this, but since he asks for Ross' help, Ross should've clued into it: Rather than having Joey memorize all the pieces in the museum tour, which requires him to remember which direction to walk in and the order in which the pieces are arranged, why doesn't Ross just advise Joey to going to the Met before his date with Charlie, picking up a book on the tour (which all, if not most museums like the Met, will have), and simply have him READ it? He could even take the book with him on his date to supplement the date, and show Charlie how interested he was in learning about the topic. In fact, how did Ross, when writing the cards with which he quizzed Joey, know exactly which pieces would be in the tour, and all the info on them? If Ross had reference on the tour and the pieces, couldn't he have just had Joey read that?

By Anonymous on Wednesday, March 09, 2005 - 8:16 pm:

Joey? Read? Other than The Shining (or Little Woemen)? Surely you jest!

By LUIGI NOVI on Wednesday, March 09, 2005 - 9:55 pm:

Well, he reads scripts, doesn't he? And if he's willing to memorize info that Ross dictates to him, why not just bring a book from the Met's gift shop with him?

By LUIGI NOVI on Friday, July 08, 2005 - 6:19 pm:

Also, during Ross' quiz of Joey, Joey pronounces the word chiaroscuro as "KEE-rah-SKOO-row," instead of its correct pronunciation which is "kee-AH-row-SKOO-row", and Ross doesn't correct him. Guess Ross himself doesn't know much about art. :)
