My Major Complaint About This Show

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Friends: Central Perk (The Friends Kitchen Sink): My Major Complaint About This Show
By Andre Reichenbacher (Andre_the_aspie) on Thursday, February 12, 2009 - 3:45 pm:

Is...

Every time they did a "flashback" show (third season, fifth season, and tenth season) the events in those episodes completely contradicted most everything that was established in the previous episodes! I really hated that!

Never mind that all six friends were extremely and incredibly attractive and all six characters had several relationships each (and had a whole lot of sex to boot) while the average guy like me can't get a date for Valentine's Day!

And what's the deal with Monica's huge large gigantic "rent-controlled" apartment? How could she possibly afford that with not having a steady income for ten years? That would never happen in real life! Sheesh!

Anyway, the show makes me laugh for the most part, and I suppose I just have to remember to suspend disbelief for almost every single outrageous incident that occured on this show!

"I'll be there for you...'cause you're there for me tooooooo!!!!!!"

By Andre Reichenbacher (Andre_the_aspie) on Thursday, February 12, 2009 - 3:58 pm:

Also, I heard that these six have all slept with each other at some point in the last fifteen years. And then they all still had to work with each other! How did they do it?

And WHAT'S the deal with Matthew Perry getting hooked on booze and painkillers? I mean really, now. What did he have to be depressed about to have to turn to drugs, I wonder?

And why does Ms. Cox have NO BODY FAT WHATSOEVER?! That must really be bad! She must be really cold all the time! Why is she so extremely incrediibly skinny?

And is Leblanc a stupid dumba** in real life, or was that just Joey? Cause people who know him say that he isn't just ACTING dumb!

And why did they make Joey such a promiscuis man-slut (you know, like Justin Timberlake)?!

I hate that!

By Luigi_novi (Luigi_novi) on Thursday, February 12, 2009 - 6:33 pm:

The apartment was explained, I believe, in the episode where Joey learns ballroom dancing with Traeger. It was explained that the apartment was indeed rent controlled, originally belonged to her grandmother, and that Monica inherited it. Monica did, however, have a steady income, as she was employed as a chef for most of the series' run. There was only a brief period when she was unemployed, and later, working as a waitress at a diner.

The only two who have slept with each other have been Ross and Rachel, and Monica and Chandler. Most of them have, however, kissed each other, had sexual or romantic dreams about the others, or seen each other nude or partially nude at some point, as illustrated by three different Tote Boards I compiled to that effect in the "Miscellaneous Tote Boards" subtopic the Sink. In fact, of the six friends, every single one of them has kissed the other five, with the exception of Joey.

By Andre Reichenbacher (Andre_the_aspie) on Thursday, February 12, 2009 - 7:49 pm:

Actually, Luigi, I meant that all six ACTORS slept with each other IN REAL LIFE at one point or another.

Just to let you know!

Provide documentation, please.

And why does Ms. Cox have NO BODY FAT WHATSOEVER?! That must really be bad! She must be really cold all the time!

Some people are naturally skinny. I'm 6' tall and the most I've ever weighed is around 155 lbs.

Somewhat OT, as you are talking about a celeb on a BB not someone to their face, but why is it that people feel it's ok to criticize someone for being "too skinny?" As a guy it doesn't bother me that much but I have several skinny female friends who say that people will just straight out say they look unhealthy or like a drug addict because they are naturally skinny. You wouldn't just go up to a fat person and say "you look like you eat too much, you should lose some weight" so why is it OK to say to a skinny person.

And WHAT'S the deal with Matthew Perry getting hooked on booze and painkillers? I mean really, now. What did he have to be depressed about to have to turn to drugs, I wonder?

Just because someone has money doesn't mean that they don't have personal problems.

And why did they make Joey such a promiscuis man-slut (you know, like Justin Timberlake)?!

Because often times young, good looking guys can be like that. Why do such guys sleep around like that, because they can. If you could go out to a bar every night and get a girl to come home with you why wouldn't you?

By Luigi_novi (Luigi_novi) on Friday, February 13, 2009 - 12:59 pm:

Andre, I seriously doubt that. :-)

As far as Perry's problems with addiction, money does not preclude that sort of thing. If anything, it only serves to facilitate it.

As for Joey, maybe my perception is biased, but I got the sense that they were playing off of Italian stereotypes, as he exhibited three of them: 1. Dumb. 2. Preoccupied with food. 3. Overly amorous/lecherous.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, February 13, 2009 - 2:31 pm:

Please remember to keep this discussion on topic- the body size of Courtney Cox is not, nor the drug tendencies of Matthew Perry.

By Andre Reichenbacher (Andre_the_aspie) on Friday, February 13, 2009 - 3:09 pm:

I was wondering: what epidodes was Perry absent from, because of him being in rehab?

I know that definetly did happen, not to be off-topic or anything!

Also, the topic of Cox's "lack of body fat" was already mentioned in the "Foul-Mouthed Friends?" section of the Friends Kitchen Sink, but I don't remember who originally wrote about it.

So anyway, I shall refrain from bringing up the actors' "personal demons" again in future. After all, pro wrestlers have more than enough stories about the workers and their drug and alcohol abuse!

I bring that up because one of my major interests in the WWE. Why is there no pro wrestling board on NitCentral?

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, February 13, 2009 - 6:45 pm:

I don't think Perry was actually absent from any episodes- but towards the end of episode 5 he was only in a handful of scenes per episode.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, February 13, 2009 - 10:18 pm:

that should read "SEASON 5" not "episode 5"

By Andre Reichenbacher (Andre_the_aspie) on Thursday, February 19, 2009 - 3:13 pm:

Also, what's with Matt Leblanc? What was he thinking when he went for a lapdance, and got drunk and groped the stripper that was "servicing" him?

All while he was still married, no less! I wonder if he was ever punished for this transgression!

Also, what's with Jenifer Aniston, and why does she hate her mom so much? Years ago, when her mom had cancer, not only did her famous daughter refuse to see her, but she made her seek care in a "dingy public clinic that normally treats the homeless and destitute"!

I ask you, what is up with these people? Why can't they at least be law-abiding citizens, if not decent human beings?

Well, at least Lisa Kudrow waited to have sex until she was married, unlike just about everybody else that's ever lived on this planet.

How about that!

By ScottN (Scottn) on Thursday, February 19, 2009 - 3:13 pm:

What do the actors' personal lives have to do with nitpicking the show?

By Andre Reichenbacher (Andre_the_aspie) on Thursday, February 19, 2009 - 3:56 pm:

That should be "promiscuous"!

Because that's Joey Tribbiani, a real man-slut!

Just Like Justin Timberlake and John Mayer!

Those dumba** Italian dudes, all they wanna do is eat sandwiches and have sex!

Remember the way Eddie Murphy protrayed Italian guys back in 1987 in "Raw"? THAT'S REALLY HOW IT IS!!!!

Unfortunatly!

By Andre Reichenbacher (Andre_the_aspie) on Thursday, February 19, 2009 - 4:00 pm:

"What do the actors' personal lives have to do with nitpicking the show?"

It's fun, that's why!

They're all multi-multi-multi-millionaires, for crying out loud! They're living the dream, they call handle it. Stuff like this rolls right off their backs!

And I will continue to critiize them as I see fit, them all being practically billionaires and all!

By Andre Reichenbacher (Andre_the_aspie) on Thursday, February 19, 2009 - 5:23 pm:

OK, OK, enough with the "real-life people" bashing!

How's about this!

Man, that Joey sure is STOOOOOO-PPPIIIDDDD!!!!

I mean, why didn't Chandler snap and scream "YOU'RE STUPID!!!!!!!" at Joey, and insult and curse all and every Italian guy who's ever been on a lame-o American sitcom! I would think that Chandler REALLY REALLy hates the late Mr. Heckles, because he diverted the cool dude with the porn babe sister and beache house, in order for Joey to come in and be really stupid, and like that!

Sheesh! I can't believe that the show lasted as long as it did, what will all the stereotypical WHIRL situations that, you know, would never happen in real life!

Bye for now!

By Callie (Csullivan) on Thursday, February 19, 2009 - 5:49 pm:

So anyway, I shall refrain from bringing up the actors' "personal demons" again in future.

Or not, apparently.

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Thursday, February 19, 2009 - 10:31 pm:

Andre- This is your final warning. Discuss in a civil manner and without the personal attacks on the actors or else you will be banned from this section of the site.

By Andre Reichenbacher (Andre_the_aspie) on Friday, February 20, 2009 - 10:44 am:

For complete episode scripts go to livesinabox.com.

There! That's on topic!

By ScottN (Scottn) on Friday, February 20, 2009 - 12:01 pm:

Can we close this topic?

By Merat (Merat) on Friday, February 20, 2009 - 12:24 pm:

You know, I've heard that Matt LeBlanc eats small dogs with great relish. ... I don't know the brand, though.

By Merat (Merat) on Friday, February 20, 2009 - 12:25 pm:

I'm sorry, that's a VERY old joke.

By Andre Reichenbacher (Andre_the_aspie) on Friday, February 20, 2009 - 1:06 pm:

Hey, he DID do a Heinz Ketchup commercial!

And one for jeans, and one for soda, and one for ceral!

All before hitting the big time! Wow!

By Rodney Hrvatin (Rhrvatin) on Friday, February 20, 2009 - 2:47 pm:

Yes Scott I tend to agree. This topic has become childish and pointless. I'm closing this thread until further notice.
