Non-Human Political Figures

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Political Musings: Political Figures: Non-Human Political Figures
By Polls Voice on Saturday, February 25, 2006 - 9:10 am:

In society, we've come across cartoons, puppets, creatures, and the like that have well developed personalities, drives, ambitions. I've sometimes wondered how things would be run if those non-human cartoons, puppets, creatures had the ability to become the next president, the next senator etc. I mean for this to be a serious discussion. Sure, it has its humorous moments, but I’m not intending this discussion to be jokes or I would have put it in the political humor thread.

Many times, as cartoonist and puppeteers have pointed out through their creations, those nonhuman creations allow us to examine how ideas would be taken without risking the backlash of actually having to say it.

For example, there's Pinky and the Brain; two mice (well mainly just one) that have a fairly developed political aspirations. What would an administration be like if they could run?

There’s Dogbert. He’d probably run things like a “god,” but (in the end) he’d always do what’s needed to protect those close to him. Even if he doesn’t like showing it, he does have a compassionate side to him.

There’s Catbert. He’d be like Dogbert, but without the caring.

My favorite non-human political figure would be Kermit the Frog. He’d make a great politician. Come to think of it, that's who the next president should be. Let's get Kermit the Frog. He wouldn't have any problems with dealing with people saying he's just a puppet figure, that there's strings attached to every thing he says. He’d look down at himself, look up, and say: “Your point?” Smear tactics wouldn’t work with him real well. He'd totally own in a debate. (He never blinks)

He also has years of in the field news reporting experience. Additionally, he’s given a commencement speech at Southampton College, he’s guest hosted Larry King Live. He'd be well acquainted with the leaders of the world. People would love him for his speaking abilities, his education. He’s good with kids so parents would love him. And he doesn’t appear to have any health issues that would make people question him like they questioned Ronald Reagan or Dick Cheney. He looks great for a 51 year old.

In 1996, he came out as an environmentalist but that’s not anything big. I mean, wouldn’t anyone fight to preserve their natural habitat. (Well… except humans)

Any other nonhuman political figures I’m leaving out? Any disagreements on what I’ve said above? Kermit the Frog

Checkers the dog? Reagan Administration mascot Jelly Belly?

Lex Luthor. He must've been elected on a Republican platform. :) Does anyone who was reading the Superman books at that time know if his party was named, or if he ran independently?

By Piglet on Wednesday, March 01, 2006 - 5:55 pm:

The Right would sympathise with Kermit's avoidance of Miss Piggy; they'd surely oppose interspecies sex too, kinda like the opposition to interracial marriages in the 60s.

well the Left would be those two guys in the balcony that always complain.

Justice Leauge Unlimited covered that plot, twice actually, and better than the comics did. On alternative Justice Lord Earth (where the Death of Flash created a totalitarian Justice Leauge), he may have ran as a Republican, since his replacement after his death at the eyes of Superman was George W. Bush, who could have been his vice president, since he was not elected to the office, since Superman suspended democracy. Back on Earth-Timm, Lex Luthor is said to have been an independant, and ran agaist a Sitting President Bush.

In videos, Bush's dog Barney doesn't appear very intelligent. Must take after its owner.

By LUIGI NOVI on Sunday, September 10, 2006 - 8:00 pm:

So his dog is a political figure now? Okay. So what method did you use to gauge his intelligence?

By Polls Voice on Sunday, September 10, 2006 - 8:30 pm:

Maybe he's thinking the name Barney, like after the Simpson character...

By Benn on Sunday, September 10, 2006 - 10:27 pm:

Or Barney Fife on the old Andy Griffith Show.

Better not give the dog any executive power.

Would Smokey The Bear count as one of these?

Would Smokey The Bear count as one of these?

No. He was a public safety mascot. not a political figure.
