Chris Christie

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Political Musings: Political Figures: Chris Christie
By TomM on Monday, May 24, 2010 - 10:15 am:

In New Jersey, State Supreme Court Justices are appointed for seven-year terms before being ratified and given lifetime tenure (at least until the mandatory retirement age of 70). There has, however, never been a Justice who has been ousted simply because his term has expired -- until now. Usually, no matter how much a governor disagrees politically with a justice, he will approve his re-appointment as a matter of courtesy and respect.

Governor Chris Christie ignored that tradition and ousted Justice John E Wallace. It is hard to say whether the worst aspect of the decision was the fact that Wallace was the only Black justice in a state with a significant Black population, or the fact that Wallace is seen as middle-of-the-road, and not at all liberal.

Chief Justice Stuart Rabner cautioned that the move could inject politics into judicial decision-making.

"Citizens who turn to the courts for relief are entitled to have their cases resolved by impartial judges who focus only on the evenhanded pursuit of justice," Rabner, a Democrat appointed by former Gov. Jon Corzine, said in a statement to justices and judges that was released to the media. "Litigants should never have to worry that a judge may be more concerned about how a decision could affect his or her reappointment."

The dictator of a governor pushed for, and got, a bill through the state Senate that raises the costs of pension and health care benefits for the states public employees, something that should have done through collective bargaining. More here.
Christie, like Scott Walker of Wisconsin, has never heard of the words "collective bargaining." To him, it's "my way or the highway." NJ Transit train fares, which went up during Christie's first year, are through the roof. The last time I went with my son from to Madison Square Garden for a WWE event, the round trip train fare for the two of us cost $44. The monthly fare from Metuchen station (my home station when I use NJ Transit) to Newark is $193; to New York it's $308. Absolutely out of sight.
If you ever listen to the man talk, he's absolutely in love with the sound of his own voice. Why shouldn't he be; he's always right.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, September 29, 2011 - 7:35 am:

Christie is supposedly flirting with the idea of a presidential run, something he has denied for almost a year. And, some buffoons are urging him to run. More here. If Christie does run and wins the White House, some good will come out of it - New Jersey residents will be rid of him. After all, he did nothing to stop a major toll increase on the bridges and tunnels between New Jersey and New York. I cross one of those bridges at least every two weeks, and the recent toll increase hurts me right in the wallet. Just think how much it hurts for those who cross those bridges and tunnels daily.

By ScottN on Tuesday, October 04, 2011 - 9:43 am:

Sorry Adam and Luigi (and Tom?)

Looks like you're stuck with him. Christie won't be running for President.

By steve McKinnon (Steve) on Tuesday, October 04, 2011 - 11:02 am:

Yea, the ONLY people that think he might run are the media (both sides), despite his emphatic, derisive tone that he's completely disinterested in running. It was pathetic seeing them say 'he left the door open juuuust a crack!'.
No, he didn't.
He basically said go to h*ll and stop bothering me! He even posted a vidio stringing all of his 'no's together to make his point, and STILL they think he might change his mind!
Sheesh!

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Wednesday, October 05, 2011 - 8:27 am:

They're reporting that he left the door open a crack because that's what sources close to Christie have told them.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 - 7:38 am:

Christie will give the keynote speech at this month's Republican National Convention. More here.
The Republicans are in love with this buffoon. I'm not, for reasons I stated above, that hit me directly in my wallet.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, October 01, 2012 - 9:27 am:

Christie appeared yesterday on ABC's This Week, predicting that Romney will win this week's presidential debate with a "big, bold performance". More here.
Hey Guv - Instead of increasing your national profile for your expected 2016 White House run, stay off the TV and try to solve New Jersey's problems. The PATH fare rose by 25 cents yesterday, from $2 to $2.25. That, of course, hits commuters (not you, though) directly in their wallets. That's a direct consequence of the Port Authority toll and fare increase that began last fall. That you just let happen, and did nothing to stop.

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Monday, October 01, 2012 - 6:17 pm:

It's $2.25 now? Geez, wasn't it just fairly recent that it went from $1.75 to $2.00?

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, October 02, 2012 - 8:04 am:

Probably it was a year ago that the PATH fare went from $1.75 to $2. The bridge tolls went up astronomically around the same time, and they're due to go up again (IIRC) by the end of 2012. The New York and New Jersey governors ordered an audit as part of the process of approving the increases. That's just political posturing; both governors rubber stamp any increase the Port Authority asks for. And, the law says that the tolls and fare monies must be used for transportation projects only. The AAA is suing though, as it's been said (IIRC, by the PA, before they backed down) that the money is being used for real estate projects like developing the World Trade Center site, that are totally unrelated to transportation.

By Luigi Novi (Luigi_novi) on Tuesday, October 02, 2012 - 9:52 am:

Maybe Christie is using it to pay his food bill?

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 - 7:51 am:

Now, Christie says that he will not reimburse New Jersey Taxpayers for his State Police security when he's stumping for the 2012 Republican ticket. More here.
Excuse me, but stumping for Romney and Ryan is all Christie seems to do; the needs of the citizens of New Jersey take a back seat. Like I said above, the "Fat Man"'s (There, I've said it. I've been aching to for ages, BTW) primary concern is maintaining a high profile for his probable 2016 White House run. But, why should taxpayers pay for his security. Shouldn't that be covered by the RNC? Or some other party organization? Definitely not N.J. taxpayers. (Check out the photo in the linked article; Christie is surrounded by five police bodyguards. Does he need that many?)

By ScottN (Scottn) on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 - 9:14 am:

Well, Adam, it takes that many just to surround him...

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, June 29, 2015 - 8:34 am:

Christie is supposed to announce his presidential run tomorrow. From NJ.com, here's five reasons why Christie's presidential run will stink for New Jersey.
By the way, the bridge tolls went up again; the cash tolls are now $14 per car. Absolutely out of sight. I pay less, due to a special commuter plan. It's still a lot more than the $1.50 I paid back in May of 1977, to see Star Wars on its first day of release.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, July 01, 2015 - 7:45 am:

Christie did announce his candidacy yesterday. Was there any doubt? He's been running for president since before he was elected NJ governor. Actually, "governor" is a misnomer; he's done anything and everything but govern since he took office. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, March 03, 2016 - 8:55 am:

The Star-Ledger (among others, I'm told) is calling for Christie's resignation. Among other issues, he's been pretty much an absentee governor. (I didn't realize that at all. ) Let him stay home and deal with the issues confronting New Jersey. Among them is a possible NJ Transit rail strike on March 13. Which would cripple the daily commute that thousands endure every day. (For that reason, I'm glad I moved out when I did.) More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, May 09, 2016 - 11:18 am:

Now that Donald Trump is the presumptive GOP nominee, he's chosen Christie to head up his transition team. If The Donald is elected President. More here.
Jumping the gun a bit aren't we, Mr. Trump? Then again, Ted Cruz picked Carly Fiorina as his running mate, then dropped out of the race about a week later.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, May 19, 2016 - 9:18 am:

Christie's presidential campaign may be history, but the bills aren't. New Jersey taxpayers are on the hook for some $1.9 million. Including over $170,000 for the absentee governor's security detail. More here. (How much will Christie's bootlicking of Trump cost N.J. taxpayers?)

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, October 13, 2016 - 9:32 am:

Now, a Bergen County judge has hit Christie with an official misconduct summons for his role in the "Bridgegate" scandal. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Friday, November 04, 2016 - 11:26 am:

Two Christie aides have been found guilty in the "Bridgegate" scandal. More here. I'm sure that Christie, despite his repeated denials, knew about and approved the scheme. If you think otherwise...well, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

By ScottN (Scottn) on Friday, November 04, 2016 - 4:34 pm:

Only a bridge in Brooklyn? Not one in Jersey?

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, July 05, 2017 - 9:19 am:

Christie was caught tanning his fat ass (and the rest of him) on the beach. That he closed (well, except for him) due to a New Jersey government shutdown. More here.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Saturday, July 08, 2017 - 10:28 pm:

The shutdown is over; the beaches are now open. I'm glad, because this is funny.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Monday, September 10, 2018 - 7:28 am:

Only a bridge in Brooklyn? Not one in Jersey?

Sure I'd sell them to you, Scott. As long as you don't raise the tolls. Which are already out of sight, as you can see from clicking on the link. (I don't think too swiftly in my old age; it took me two years to come up with a smart-ass answer.)

By ScottN (Scottn) on Monday, September 10, 2018 - 9:42 am:

Adam, I was joking about that, since it was about Bridgegate. That's all.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Friday, November 09, 2018 - 8:12 am:

Since Big Fat Man canned his attorney general Jeff Sessions the other day, Little Fat Man has emerged as a contender for the job. I guess Sessions didn't kiss Pres. Lard Ass's butt as much as the fat man wanted, which is why he was given the boot. I know that Christie will kiss Trump's ass (and other places as well) to the nth degree.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Thursday, May 07, 2020 - 4:20 pm:

Two Christie aides have been found guilty in the "Bridgegate" scandal.

The U.S. Supreme Court overturned those convictions today. So now, no one will pay for Fat Ass Christie's arrogance and thin-skinnedness. (Is that even a word? )

By Francois Lacombe (Franc0is) on Thursday, May 07, 2020 - 5:28 pm:

No, it two hyphenated ones.

By Judi Jeffreys (Ethamster) on Thursday, May 07, 2020 - 6:59 pm:

My favourite "eggcorn" is "razor-tight". You can be SKIN-TIGHT and RAZOR-THIN but not RAZOR-TIGHT.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Sunday, October 04, 2020 - 8:40 am:

Chris Christie has tested positive for the Corona virus.
So many attendees of the event to present Amy Conehead...er...Coney Barrett as the replacement for the late Justice Ginsburg on 9/26 have tested positive for the virus. Wonder just what did go on there....

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Friday, October 16, 2020 - 7:46 am:

And, Christie was hospitalized, and in intensive care for seven days. Guess there's some truth in the theory that the coronavirus hits overweight people with great intensity. He is also urging people to wear masks, something his butt boy Trump still rarely does. Even though Pres. Lard Ass had his own turn at the hospital. More on that here.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, October 17, 2020 - 5:03 am:

Nice to see that some people can learn from their mistakes.

By Natalie RD QL (Rdnat) on Saturday, May 22, 2021 - 3:49 am:

Christie's supposed to be this amusing no-bullsh**t insult comic, but he just comes across as a corrupt hack who got duped by Trump and now projects all of the charisma of a stale bowl of oatmeal.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Saturday, May 22, 2021 - 5:01 am:

Of course, Orange would throw someone under the bus when they ceased to be useful to him.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, June 06, 2023 - 4:23 pm:

Christie filed today for a 2024 White House run, crowding an already overstuffed field of Republican candidates. More on that here.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Wednesday, June 07, 2023 - 5:01 am:

Guess it will come down to the least evil of the bunch.

By ScottN (Scottn) on Wednesday, June 07, 2023 - 9:31 pm:

The sad thing is that Christie seems to be that "least evil".

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, June 08, 2023 - 5:06 am:

So it seems.

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Tuesday, August 08, 2023 - 6:06 am:

Christie has turned from one of Donald Trump's most ardent bootlickers to one of his biggest critics. He even appeared on MSNBC's Morning Joe today, and did a major hatchet job on Orange Peel.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Tuesday, August 08, 2023 - 7:32 am:

Falling out among thieves?

By Adam Bomb (Abomb) on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 - 7:27 pm:

A big falling out. Christie has dropped out of the 2024 presidential race. His alleged aim now is to keep Donald Trump out of the White House. More here.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, January 11, 2024 - 6:02 am:

Orange Peel must NOT be allowed to get back into the White House.
