Senator Bob Dole.
A man of warmth and integrity compared to today's Republicans.
Dole was left permanently disabled by severe injuries in the Second World War.
Quite a contrast to coward presidents from both sides who cheated their way out of going to war as boys.
The only person in Washington during Dole's time there who remembered to reach out to shake Dole's non-paralyzed hand was Richard Nixon. Dole never forgot Nixon's kindness.
If he lives three more years, he passes Alf Landon (Republican, 1936) to become the longest-lived major party candidate for President. Strom Thurmond was a few months older than Landon when he died. Thurmond won 39 Electoral votes as the Dixiecrat candidate in 1948. The only two states that Landon won in 1936 were Maine and Vermont which comprised 8 electoral votes.
He's only three years away from his centenary.
This was announced today. Former Senator Bob Dole has been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. I wish him well, and hope he makes it to his centenary. More from Fox News here.
He didn't make it. Given his advanced age (98) and that stage four cancer is usually lethal, it's not surprising.
While I may not have agree with many of his political views, I do admire him for being part of the Greatest Generation, those that fought in World War II. In fact, he almost made the ultimate sacrifice in that war.
Much of the freedoms we have today, we owe to men such as this.
I wonder if he'll be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
Robert "Bob" Dole: 1923-2021
I wonder if he'll be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
No he won't, although he deserved to be. According to the local NYC newscast, he will be buried in his home state of Kansas. RIP, Senator Dole.
Except that we all know that it wasn't really Bob Dole, it was either Kang or Kodos.
I beg your pardon?
A halloween special episode of the Simpsons, where the aliens Kang and Kodos take the place of Bill Clinton and Bob Dole to enslave the population of Earth

Seriously, though. Mr Dole was an honorable, respectable man. Such attributes are now in short supply in DC -- on both sides of the aisle.
Truer words were never spoken.
