I'd like to say I thought this was a better end to the trilogy then Last Human.

In the end did you notice they found another crew in a parallel universe and didn't say anything about their appearance, despite the fact the Cat and Lister would have now looked about 15. Surely someone would have commented; "Mr Lister and Mr Cat, you seem to be going through puberty again"?

Last Human had a better ending (the sort of way the series should end- Rimmer sacrificing himself, only losing his cowardice right at the very end), but I did prefer this book oin the whole.

At one point near the beginning Cat says something which, put in reverse, would be "What the semg is going on?" Semg? (the word, as appearing in the book, is Gmess)

In the six years between the publication of the last book and this one, the partnership of Rob Grant and Doug Naylor came to an end. That is why Rob Grant wrote this book alone.

In this one, we pick up where Better Than Life ended. Due to unfortunate circumstances, Lister had to be left on an Earth, in a universe where time runs backward. Now, thirty-five years later, Rimmer, Kryten, and the Cat have come to collect him (it's never made clear what the other Dwarfers were doing all that time). However, things will not be that easy

For Lister, living on backwards Earth was a challenge, as, on this world, effect preceded cause. Lister had to adjust to all that, and don't even get me started on bodily functions.

And while most of the story follows our heroes on backwards Earth, there is also a major subplot, taking place in a parallel universe, with that reality's version of Arnold Rimmer. Nicknamed Ace, this Rimmer is a huge success. Clearly, at some point, his life took another turn from the Rimmer we know and love.

After ten years on backwards Earth (in which Lister and the Cat regress to teenagers), the crew finally are able to leave. However, getting back to Red Dwarf will not be as easy as they had hoped it would.

For there are a bunch of killer cyborgs awaiting our heroes there. And then Ace Rimmer enters the picture.

I enjoyed this one too. Like the other books, it combines the plotline of several episodes (this time from Seasons Three, Four, and Five). However, the story is pretty good and how it all fits together. You can read it, without having seen the episodes in question.

Another book for Red Dwarf fans to enjoy, IMO.
