Legion

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Red Dwarf: Red Dwarf VI: Legion
By Chris Thomas on Monday, January 25, 1999 - 7:53 pm:

We are also unaware of what the 23rd century human is like - maybe by that stage all humans have two appendixes.

By Mike Konczewski on Tuesday, January 26, 1999 - 12:53 pm:

It's spelled "appendices", plural of appendix.

At this stage of the series, the Red Dwarf crew has been through so many time changes and alternate timelines, Lister could have changed his past to the point where he never had his appendix removed.

Thankyou for picking me up on that Mike - I should know better, given my profession.

By Canadian Dwarfer on Thursday, January 28, 1999 - 11:04 am:

Thanks for pointing that out Mike.

By Mike Konczewski on Thursday, January 28, 1999 - 4:11 pm:

No problems, eh?

Sorry guys, I couldn't resist....

By Johnny Veitch on Sunday, January 31, 1999 - 4:42 am:

Only Lister has the "plural of appendix" (Wink, wink)

By Canadian Dwarfer on Monday, February 01, 1999 - 8:47 am:

Ha ha ha. Very smegging funny.

I seem to think that there is a close-up in this episode that shows a part of the Justiceworld complex from Justice, but I didn't see it this time. (Although my nephew did say that he noticed some scenes missing from an earlier episode.)

2 of the names Kryten lists as geniuses caught my ear. Davro, could this be a reference to Davros from Doctor Who? Quayle, who doesn't think this is a reference to a certain Vice-President of the USA?

So why doesn't Kryten question Legion's name. I know Legion says that Kryten suspected the truth, but it seemed a very obvious name to me. (I wonder if Legion is mentioned in Kryten's Electronic Bible?)

Legion leads Lister to his room then makes a comment about the others in their rooms, then the next day Kryten and Rimmer tell Lister what their rooms were like. Did Legion just lead them all, one at a time to their rooms, or did the others just not pay attention to the other rooms when he led all of them to their rooms?

Is putting sneakers in the fridge an English guy thing, because Red Dwarf is the only place I remember seeing this particular habit, and Kochanski's comment in Duct Soup seems to indicate that it's apparently common.

Legion stabs himself in his left hand, but Lister acts like it's his right hand that's been stabbed.

Legion's mask is off showing everyone that he is a composite of them, then he puts it back on, then when Kryten is knocking out the others, Legion takes off his mask again. Why not just leave it off?

Why does Legion completely change into a copy of Kryten instead of just his face?

Considering how much oxygen was rushing out of that hole, I'm amazed Cat and Lister didn't suffocate.

Putting sneakers in the fridge is just a blokey, gross thing to do - you might expect to see it in Men Behaving Badly or The Young Ones.

By Johnny Veitch on Friday, September 03, 1999 - 2:45 pm:

Legion changed into Kryten because he`s not an amalgamation any more. I know it`s a bad excuse, but it`s the best one.

By Richard Davies on Sunday, September 05, 1999 - 3:36 pm:

Davro could be named after Bobby Davro, a 1980s UK comedian.

By KAM on Monday, September 06, 1999 - 12:19 am:

Does he do his act sitting in a bath chair and saying, "That was funny! Laugh, or you will be exterminated!" ;-)

By Keith Alan Morgan on Wednesday, September 08, 1999 - 1:08 am:

I was wrong about this episode showing part of the Justiceworld complex. We see it in Out Of Time, doubling as a 28th century Space Corps ship.

Nice that Legion gave Rimmer am upgrade, so he could now pick things up without having to rely on the skutters all the time.

Good thing they happened upon Legion when they did, or Lister would have been royally screwed with that appendix of his. Can you even imagine Cat or Kryten performing surgery on him!?

When the mentally willed green drink hits Lister in the face, Kryten looks like he can't decide whether he's disgusted or sneezing.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, February 20, 2020 - 5:27 am:

I wonder if that was an outtake that somehow got left in.

By Anonymous on Thursday, February 20, 2020 - 7:04 am:

There's a notable blooper in Polymorph, where at one point Robert Llewellyn forgets to put on his fake "Canadian" accent as Kryten, so outtakes do get left in the broadcast version if time was pressing in the studio.

my favorite scene of all of Red Dwarf:

“Ah, Legion, we have considered our position, and have decided our best option is to make a new life here with you!”

*the greatest sight gag in Red Dwarf history*

“You truly believe I would be deceived by that schlock plan from Revenge of the Surfboarding Killer Bikini Vampire Girls?”

Lister should have known better.
