Starbug is much bigger since previous episodes. In series 3-5 there were only three rooms: The cockpit, the mid-section and the stern (mentioned in "Quarantine") Now they`ve got an engine deck, a kitchen, an R+R room, and sleeping quarters. To make matters worse, Emohawk establishes that they have four decks! Of course, this may just be a different Starbug, but the windows are the same size as on the shuttlecraft-sized one.
And then we get the dumb TARDIS-like Starbug from VII!!!
Lister and Cat were in deep sleep for 'just over 200 years', not 500.
Any one else spot a Space:1999 Eagle among the wreckage of the astroid? Well Peter Wragg did work for Gerry Anderson at 1 time.
I was going over my old Rocky and Bullwinkle tapes and in the adventure Louse on 92nd Street, when Bullwinkle can't find any onions for his pound cake, Rocky reminds him he used the last one that morning on his corn flakes. Coincidence?
The whole of season six has an interesting style that I call the 'two part episode'.

Kryten says that Lister and Kochanski dated for 3 weeks before she dumped him. This is a big change.
When rebooting Rimmer, Kryten loads a pinkyful of charm into him, but in Terrorform, it was revealed that Rimmer's Charm had died years earlier.
Rimmer lasts a lot longer on backup battery power here than the 4 minutes he would have lasted in Demons And Angels and they have a lot more oxygen than they did in that episode.
While Kryten does say "nasal instinct" implying something more than smell, afterwards they simply refer to it as smell and there is no smell in space.
In space it is not a "giant, flaming meteorite" it is a "giant, flaming meteoroid". It is only a meteorite after it has landed on a planet. (But then, look at the two who are using the term.)
Isn't it amazing that the guitar was not damaged when they fired bazookoids at the Psiren holding it.
Oh, when loading Rimmer's form and all those images flash by, was anyone else reminded of Polymorph?
Summary nit: The Psirens don't change shape, they telepathically make you see something that isn't there.
So why don't the Psirens make themselves appear to be invisible?
Maybe they improved a few things since Demons And Angels.
Ed, it was the Oxygen Recycling Unit they lost (or rather was beyond repair).
Actually, it was an oxy-generation unit.
Kryten tells Mamet near the end that his brain is synthetic but isn't it revealed to be part organic in DNA, which enable him to be genetically recoded to become human?
Just a thought: if Lister is only allowed to play his guitar in space, can he hear it?
Look at the two Listers' feet when being interrogated. Both have socks on. Before Kryten even asks them to cut their toenails, one Lister has one sock off, the other has both off.
The Psiren asks Lister what it is like not to have made love to a woman for 3 million years.
Didn't Lister have sex with his female equivalent in Parallel Universe, which would only make it about four years since he experienced the pleasures of the flesh.
In the original script (the one printed in Primordial Soup), there is in fact a scene where a psiren makes itself invisible. It lets the crew think it's crawled downstairs when it hasn't.
My nephew Jon was watching this & he wondered, where did Kryten get the garbage that he's dumping at the beginning of the show? He's been all by himself for over 200 years.
Well knowing the mess Lister likes to make, maybe it's just taken Kryten that long to catch up.
It could be Kryten's garbage, or from getting ready for Lister waking up. I'm sure Kryten wanted to have breakfast ready for Lister and the Cat.
Douglas, I told my nephew that answer and he laughed & thought it was probably true.
Just a thought: if Lister is only allowed to play his guitar in space, can he hear it?
Presumably, he'd have headphones.
Didn't Lister have sex with his female equivalent in Parallel Universe, which would only make it about four years since he experienced the pleasures of the flesh.
Actually, it would be 204 years, but otherwise I had the same thought.
About the garbage: Perhaps Kryten was just trying to look busy for Mr. Lister.
Here's a nit I just found. When Lister is first being lowered down from the hibernation unit, his locks are draped over his mid-section. In the very next shot, they aren't there anymore.
So was Kryten just dippy-bopping around Starbug all by himself for 200 years, while everyone else was napping?
I'm surprised he didn't have an "android Norman Bates" relapse if he did spend 200 years with no company.
Well, Kryten did get an upgrade by the Dwarfers when they found him again (when be became a regular character).
And he as alone for a considerably less amount of time.
Hudzen 10 in Series III's "The Last Day" - Kryten notes that his "sanity chip" has worn out after millions of years of tracking Kryten. Wouldn't Kryten's chip have worn out, too?
Once again, considerably less time.
I always though Pete Tranter's sister in "Psrens" looked like some sort of prostitute in that outfit but since the image was drawn from Lister's mind, maybe that reflects how *he* would dress his female fantasy, and not how the actual woman would dress herself?
Well, Natalie, you answered your own nit.
The Psirens looked into Lister's mind, and found his adolescent fantasy version of Pete Tranter's sister, not actual memories of the real person.
They filmed those scenes in the early morning night and the poor actress was very cold in that outfit she later told The Official Site.
The Psirens create a nit. Okay, the premise is that they lay in wait and lure in unsuspecting space travellers with their telepathic tricks to feed on them.
Except this is the Red Dwarf universe, where life begins and ends with Earth. How many space travellers are out there? The Psirens must go centuries between feedings!
quote:Red Dwarf, with all its power, is only able to sustain one hologram. By shutting off all non-essential systems in Me², Holly was able to get the ship to sustain two holograms.
And now we’re expected to believe something the size of a shuttlecock can sustain a hologram and can be booted by Starbug’s onboard computer?
Kryten had 200 years to upgrade Starbug.
