Demons and Angels

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Red Dwarf: Red Dwarf V: Demons and Angels
By Phillip Culley on Saturday, February 20, 1999 - 4:09 pm:

When 'creating' the strawberries, Kryten claims that this will boost Red Dwarf's food supply. However, after the high and low Red Dwarfs are created, Lister (and Kryten) say that after an hour, the copies will be wiped from existance. Won't the duplicate strawberries be wiped from existance as well, so destroying Krytens dreams of infinite food?

By Chris Thomas on Saturday, February 20, 1999 - 9:50 pm:

Maybe it's just something as big as Red Dwarf that would only an hour and food would last several days, long enough for it to be eaten and digested?

By Edward Jefferson (Ejefferson) on Sunday, February 21, 1999 - 4:15 am:

Yeah- I believe there is a line about stability or something, like a copy as big as the ship won't be stable enough. I'm probably wrong though.

By Keith Alan Morgan on Thursday, August 26, 1999 - 7:42 am:

The quote in the summary has some problems.
First it should read like this, "The actual chances of it blowing are about one in..." (Red Dwarf explodes) "one."
Second, Lister was saying this line as reassurance when the ship exploded and changed the last word, and the meaning, to reflect what happened.

When Lister is saying the above quote, Starbug shakes, then we see and hear the explosion. Shouldn't we see the explosion, then see Starbug shake when the debris expands outward 80 clicks?

Why is there only 7 minutes of air left? Was Starbug damaged by breaking through the door and developed a leak?

Why would Rimmer's battery burn out in 4 minutes? He's lasted longer than that before.

The Highs and Lows both seem to understand that they are created from the best and worst of each crewmember. The Highs are said to possess a great intelligence. So why are the Highs so dumb when it comes to dealing with the Lows? They believe the gun went off accidentally, the bomb was a welcome gift, etc., etc.

When captured by the Lows, Low Kryten and Low Rimmer, tell Lister that Low Lister is made up of his baser instincts, giving examples from his life. When did Low Lister explain these differences to the others?

When struggling with Lister, Kryten declares that he has found the spinal implant. When did Lister say it was a spinal implant that the Lows had used to control him? I just remember him saying he was being controlled, I don't remember him naming the device.

Did the two Red Dwarfs fade away because they came to the end of the time limit or because Kryten successfully reversed the Triplicator? If it was the time limit then why did Low Lister and the spinal implant remain? Shouldn't they have faded away as well?

Since the Dwarfers were triplicated it would indicate that everything on the ship was triplicated and when Kryten reversed it the High & Low copies would recreate everything the way it was before the accident. Which means that there should be another Starbug on the ship, but wouldn't there also be duplicates of Cat, Kryten and Rimmer? (Or at least pieces of them since High Cat & High Kryten were blown up and High Rimmer's light bee was crushed.)

When one of the Lows bashes through a supposedly black metal wall, you can see the white polystyren on the bits he just bashed through.

If Red Dwarf can only handle one hologram how were high Rimmer and Rimmer able to aboard the Low Red Dwarf?

By Chris Thomas on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 - 9:30 am:

Presumably, the normal Rimmer was on battery backup from Starbug - how else would he have been sustained during all of Season VI? And the High Rimmer was projected using power from the High Red Dwarf.

Actually this is only the second episode I have seen of the show. But I am looking forward to watching the new episodes.

By Brian Webber on Wednesday, May 17, 2000 - 10:17 pm:

This show tries so hard to have consistency, and follow the laws of physics, that, unlike Trek, the occasional odd lapse can be forgiven.

By Ed Jefferson (Ejefferson) on Thursday, May 18, 2000 - 12:45 pm:

You haven't seen season 7 I take it?

How could Evil Lister still exist, when both Good and Evil RD's disappeared?

By Natalie Granada Television (Natalie_granada_tv) on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 - 4:45 pm:

Judging by the High crew's behaviour, having all your evil impulses removed makes you a shy, over-trusting idiot.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Thursday, February 20, 2020 - 5:25 am:

Well, the machine that created them was flawed to start with.

By Judi Jeffreys, Granada in NorthWest (Jjeffreys_mod) on Sunday, January 17, 2021 - 9:59 pm:

I love the bit at the end where Cat turns Lister into his own personal Barbie Doll after Lister sits on the spinal implant (Rimmer is grinning too).

At least he didn't make him eat another tarantula.
