Parallel Universe

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Red Dwarf: Red Dwarf II: Parallel Universe
By Chris Thomas on Wednesday, February 03, 1999 - 8:43 am:

Why do the female Lister and Rimmer talk about the 60s when they are in the future? Surely they at least need to say the 1960s so the others understand what century they're on about? It would be like us referring to something happening in 1767 and calling that the 60s while everyone would automatically assume it would be the 1960s.
So in the future there would be several 60s - 1960s, 2060s, 2160s and so on - so it would make more sense if they qualified the century as well.

Chris: We all knew what she was talking about so it didn't matter.

By Chris Thomas on Saturday, May 29, 1999 - 1:00 am:

That's not the point though, is it? I think it's a valid nit because it's a huge oversight.

By Keith Alan Morgan on Tuesday, July 27, 1999 - 2:16 am:

It is valid, Chris. I wondered the same thing myself. Although in a previous episode Rimmer referred to Captain Hollister as "Fat bastard 2044" so it is possible that they haven't had the 2060's yet.

The quote in the summary is broken up with Rimmer asking what a flamingo up is.

In the original version, there's a flash of light and Red Dwarf is gone. In the remastered version the ship fades out.

So when Dave is asking Deb questions about history why isn't she asking questions back?

My nephew Jon noticed that the remastered version took out the Cat's meowing when he was showing the Dog how to dance.

The remastered version cut the shot of the baby scutters.

Earlier when Holly does the countdown he forgets 7, when he's counting down to return he says, "4, 3, 1". But that's only a nit if you're a member of the crew.

Okay, when they jump from one universe to the next, the process somehow converts Dave's innards from male to female, but when going back shouldn't the process reverse itself?

By Chris Thomas on Tuesday, July 27, 1999 - 2:21 am:

Doctors say that men can theoretically carry a baby without a uterus.

By Chris Thomas on Friday, February 11, 2000 - 7:51 pm:

If history has followed an exact parallel, right up to Red Dwarf being 3 millions from home, (except for all the male/female roles reversed) why hasn't Hilly invented the Hilly Hop Drive?

By Padawan Nitpicker on Saturday, February 12, 2000 - 5:07 am:

Well, Hilly Hop drive doesn`t sound as good as Holly Hop Drive, perhaps Holly thought this name up quickly but Hilly`s still thinking of a good sounding name?

By Chris Todaro on Saturday, February 12, 2000 - 7:59 am:

Beside, Holly said there would be "some differences." That's one of them. (Along with Ringo being a very good drummer.)

By Hodge on Thursday, June 29, 2000 - 1:06 am:

I happened to notice that when they were on board the parallel Red Dwarf, all of Rimmer's certificates in the background STILL say "Arnold Rimmer" instead of "Arlene Rimmer".

By goog on Thursday, June 26, 2003 - 6:52 pm:

Being a science-fiction show, they probably could have gotten away with Ringo being a good singer. Or would that be asking too much of the audience?

By Linus on Tuesday, September 09, 2003 - 8:51 am:

Regarding the dates:
"Stasis Leak" showed us that is was the year 2077 in Series I.

By Chris Todaro on Sunday, October 22, 2006 - 9:28 am:

I wonder if there's a female Ace Rimmer out there jumping between dimensions.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 - 5:18 am:

Could be.
