Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Red Dwarf: The Dwarfer's Sink: Did you know.... ?

Just a quick thing to add about Robert Llewelyn (sp?), aka Kryten. After watching all four series of Junkyard Wars on TLC, I suddenly relized that the British host is Llwewlyn. It's Kryten, without the make-up!
It took me forever to make the connection, because without the android accent and "novelty condom head," he sounds and looks completely different. I had to squint and imagine the make-up to really see that he was Kryten.
I just thought other Dwarfers who haven't made the connection would like to know. And, it's a really cool show (Junkyard Wars).

My apologies to all Canadians :)
Where is RobotWars broadcast? I've never seen it in the states, although I've heard about it. Is it anything like Battlebots?

Shouldn't this be on the "Out of RD" topic here? Like the fact that Rimmer is going to be Angelina Jolie's butler in the Tomb Raider movie.

Robot Wars is better by far than Battlebots. Battlebots just has one-on-one fights between the competing robots. Robot Wars has more varied competition. Also it has the House Robots, who are there to add to the chaos. Here's how it works: The competition starts with six robots, who all go through the Gauntlet. This is an obstacle course where you have the choice of three paths and attempt to navigate through things like brick walls, spikes popping out of the floor, pits, a ram-rig that pushes you against a line of cutting disks, a flame pit, and the end of each path is guarded by a House Robot. The robot that covers the least distance is evicted from the competition. The remaining five then go through the Trials, a competition that varies from episode to episode. Games used include skittles, soccer, jousting, tug-of-war, king of the castle, and sumo wrestling. The robot that fares the worst is evicted and we go to the Arena. This is one-on-one fighting, with the winners of the semi-final bouts facing each other off.

First, sorry that I didn't post this under Out of RD, but I was searching for a charachter/actor posting, like are on other boards. When I didn't find one, I just decided to make my own. But yes, this should have gone on Out of RD.

Second, does anyone know if RobotWars is shown in the states? And if so, where? I would like to see it.

Third, I'm going to ask a s-t-u-p-i-d American question now. What are "skittles?" The only skittles I know are a fruit candy. (I know, I know, s-t-u-p-i-d American :( )

By Gordon Lawyer on Wednesday, March 21, 2001 - 8:55 am:

Skittles (I may be spelling it wrong) is a bowling style game (knocking pins over with a ball).
Possibly they show Robot Wars on BBC America, but I'm not sure about that. Your best bet would be your local PBS station (which is where I watch it).

Not too sure if this is the right place to type this but the BBC are planning to re-run all 52 episodes. I don't know if seasons 1 to 3 will be the remastered versions though.

If you happen to be in Western Australia in October, this may interest you... (yours truly is the Cat)

Blak Yak Theatre, by special arrangement with Grant Naylor Productions, is
proud to present Red Dwarf. Faithfully adapted from the early television
episodes and original novels, Red Dwarf is a full-length science fiction
comedy directed by Tim Edwards.

For those of you not familiar.... On board the spaceship Red Dwarf, crewman
Dave Lister is sentenced to six months of suspended animation for
jeopardising strict quarantine regulations by smuggling his pet cat on
board. Three million years later, Dave is awakened to find that a radiation
leak has killed the entire crew and that Red Dwarf never returned to Earth.
Accompanied only by a vindictive sentient hologram, a humanoid cat descended
and evolved from his original pet, and a sarcastic ship's computer, Dave
starts the long journey home....

Performances will be at the Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre, Canning Road,
Kalamunda, at 8pm on October 16, 18, 19, 23, 25 & 26. Tickets are $14, $12
concession and can be reserved by calling 0500-52-52-59 (cost of a local
call).

From way back...

Took me a couple of episodes to recognize him.

Bobby Llewellyn is seen as his normal self in RD as Jim Reaper (The Last Day), Bongo (Dimension Jump), and the Data Doctor (Back in The Red).

I know.

Pretty cool.
