The scientist-type guy in this says that without Kryten there couldn't have been a Data on Next Generation. Lets look at this for a moment. Both TNG and Red Dwarf premiered in 1988 (right?) and while Kryten first appeared in season 2 the Kryten we've all come to know and tolerate with extreme reluctance didn't come about until season 3. That means that Data was around a full two years (at least) before Kryten. Daft pseudo-scientist-type guy!

Actually, TNG premiered (in the States) in late 1987!
