Out of all the Red Dwarf episodes, which episode would you recommend showing a friend to get them hooked on the series?
Probably Polymorph.
It ties with Backwards as my favorite, but Backwards can get quite disgusting and that might turn a newcomer off.
My personal favorite is Quarantine, and I'm not just saying this so that Mr. Flibble won't be cross with me. What I like best about it is its strange mixture of goofiness and creepiness.
Waiting For God did it for me.
Polymorph would be good, Marooned and Backwards also work pretty well.
I'd agree with Waiting for God - the yoyo scene between Cat and Rimmer surely couldn't fail to amuse a new viewer; and I always get a lump in my throat when the old cat cries in anguish, "My hat! I burned my sacred hat!"
Waiting For God is my second favorite episode
Third, KAM. If Polymorph and Backwards are your two favourites ... ;)
Nonsense.
If you look at the list:
Favorite: Backwards/Polymorph (tie)
2nd Favorite: Waiting for God
If I did it your way it would read:
Favorite: Backwards/Polymorph (tie)
2nd Favorite: ________________
3rd Favorite: Waiting for God
Why should Waiting For God be pushed down to 3rd when there is a clearly open space above it?
I usually show "Future Echos" to people I want to introduce the show to. That episode re-introduces the premise but I think it's funnier than "The End."
Oops! I actually meant "Stasis Leak." I got the titles smegged up!
Well, yesterday when my fiancée came over, I just happened to be watching Ouroboros. Once that episode was over, I threw in Waiting for God. Then we watched some anime for a while, then R2-D2: Beneath the Dome, and then before she had to leave we squeezed in the first half of the Smeg Outs tape.
She is now quite looking forward to next week’s DVD release. (As, of course, am I.) So it seems I successfully turned her on to Red Dwarf. There is just one thing that I am left to wonder… Should I be concerned that she thinks Lister is “kind of cute”? I mean… he was being particularly slobby in Waiting for God! (Of course, I’m not exactly a neat freak myself, so maybe this is a good sign!)
I addicted a friend or two, back in the day.
