Technically, Rimmer is now the commander of Red Dwarf.
Of course, they're still not gonna listen to him.
I think it's Polymorph that implies Rimmer has a Norman Bates type adoration of his Mum.
Not quite.
As for as I know, Arnold Rimmer never murdered anyone.
He rapes by deception Yvonne MacGruder, abuses illegal learning drugs, sabotages his crewmates etc.. Murder is not far away.
But he never crossed that line. It would be hard to like the guy if he had.
Mind you, Mrs. Rimmer was hardly the ideal mom, I mean if it moved, she'd sleep with it. And we later learn that Arnold is the result of one of her trysts.
A family therapist would have made a fortune off the Rimmer clan.
I think murder is a lot further away than the media likes to believe, killing people is a big deal.
There are cases of soldiers, under fire, shooting in the air rather than at the enemy.
Heck, jurors will vote against a death penalty even when confronted with clear evidence of a crime(s) and a lot of people protest when an execution is going to occur because they are so against taking a life.
Fortunately, the majority of humans see murder as a very bad thing.
Just loved Rimmer at the end of The Promised Land when the Cats make him their new God.
You can just see his head expanding
In DJ, Arnold doesn't try to kill Ace, he just tried to dump rotten fish on him as he departed.
That was the point, Arnold wanted to humiliate Ace.
Of course, it didn't work.
Arnold kills Katerina in Back to Earth. True, she was am hallucination but he thought she was real.
None of those events were real.
And, on that note, the subject of Rimmer murdering people is now closed.
Anyhoo...
The Promised Land gave Rimmer some selfless feats. He flew that bomb out into space and saved everyone.
And then he willingly gave up his super powers to save Kryten.
