Back In The Red, Part 3

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Red Dwarf: Red Dwarf VIII: Back In The Red, Part 3

Quite good. I'm still undecided on Chloe Annette. Hopefully the reast of the season will be as good.

So did Rimmer actually have sex with any woman or not?
I thought AR equipment was created after Red Dwarf was built. I don't remember them talking about it during the early seasons and from the way Lister used the AR equipment on Starbug in series VI and VII I'm sure the subject would have come up. (Along with other things;-)
Since only Rimmer used the confidential crew information why were Lister, Cat, Kryten, Kochanisky and Holly sentenced to 2 years on deck 13?
Since there are now 2 Hollys, how should we refer to them? Holly and Big-Head Holly?

By Ed Jefferson (Ejefferson) on Sunday, March 14, 1999 - 12:25 pm:

They had Better than Life way back in II and this was established tech.

Rimmer has had sex with McGruder- once.

This is the only time.

(Not counting Holoship- that was a different Rimmer)

How come when Lister pours the sexual magnetism virus on Rimmer at the end, all the men start going for him? Shouldn't that have happened before, along with all the women after Rimmer? Or is it only gay men that would lust after him?

By Johnny Veitch on Sunday, April 11, 1999 - 10:01 am:

Cat discovers that E11T means EXIT, because 11 is XI in Roman numerals. Lister asks "He got that?" and Kryten responds that it is an AR simulation. But why would anyone change Cat`s behaviour? Remember- he`s "real", not just part of the AR surroundings. If the whole point of this is to find out what Lister, Cat, Rimmer, Kryten and Cat would do, why is hollister (or whoever) altering their minds?

When Cat is doing the dance, how come all the Blue Midgets are dancing, and not just the one he programmed? Then again, this is happening in their minds.

In some scenes of the dance, the Blue Midget which the others are on (identified as Midget 3) has arms, in some scenes it hasn`t. Then again, this is happening in their minds.

During the second escape attempt, they are able to get out of the shuttlebay without code clearance. Then again, this is happening inside their minds.

By Chris Thomas on Monday, April 12, 1999 - 12:10 am:

The Blue Midget dance - which went on just a bit too long - it reminds of some fil sequence, possible a parody of Fred Astaire or Gene Kelley teaching someone to dance. Any thoughts?

By Keith Alan Morgan on Thursday, October 07, 1999 - 12:41 am:

When Hollister is making his diary entry he talks about Rimmer injecting his groin with anasthetic, but he talks about it as if it really happened, not as if it were part of an AR simulation like he did with the others AR experience.

When Blue Midget runs for the exit and flies away from the ship it's the same shots, so are we supposed to believe that their minds reuse the same footage?

In the episode titles the numbers are spelled out, one, two & three, not 1, 2 & 3.

By Chris Thomas on Thursday, October 07, 1999 - 7:14 am:

Is it possible they just *think* Hollister is making that entry during the AR simulation?

By Chris Thomas on Saturday, March 11, 2000 - 10:15 pm:

If Hollister is making an official entry, he's giving a way a lot, especially about how he cheated to get to captain and in reality he is just Dennis the donut boy.

By Ratbat on Wednesday, August 02, 2000 - 9:31 am:

It's troo, Lister and Rimmer were definitely on the scam about the confidential reports, and maybe Kochanski's an accessory, because Lister told her about it (at least I think he did), but the Cat and Kryten?

By Chris Thomas on Wednesday, August 02, 2000 - 6:09 pm:

They were unauthorised personnel on Starbug, which they crashed and destroyed.

By Charles Cabe (Ccabe) on Saturday, February 17, 2001 - 9:07 pm:

Just wondering, is Dennis the doughnut boy's first name a tribute to an American TV ad where there is a Duncan Doughnuts employee who says "Gotta make the doughnuts"?

Yes, but there is no one to report him to.
