Pete, Part 2

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Red Dwarf: Red Dwarf VIII: Pete, Part 2
By Keith Alan Morgan on Sunday, March 14, 1999 - 1:26 pm:

PLOT SUMMARY
They figure out a way to stop Pete the dinosaur.
NITS
The cow vindaloo was funny. As well as Captain Hollister's explanation of the troops attempts to bring down Pete. (I laughed so hard I almost suffocated.)
Either an explanation about turning Pete into a T-rex was omitted or I missed something. How did the captain know that Pete was really a transformed canary?
Why did the captain insist on having Pete restored? Given all the supplies he had eaten they could have killed the dinosaur and eaten the meat. (All together now. "Tastes like chicken.")
Maybe we should buy shares of Coke since we know it will still be around?

Funniest episode of Series 8!!! (But I think think Cassandra was better)

Why did the Captain already have _all_ those signs written. I'm think of "Where are you going?" and "I meant for me."

By Jenny Veitch on Wednesday, April 14, 1999 - 3:43 pm:

Pete is a boy`s name, right? That means that Pete as a sparrow was male, right? So where did that egg come from?!

By Keith Alan Morgan on Thursday, April 15, 1999 - 1:28 am:

Well, Birdman didn't strike me as the brightest person so maybe he doesn't know a boy bird from a girl bird.
Still, even if Pete was a girl where was the male to impregnate her? I suppose it is possible that there were more birds than just Pete and that Pete was pregnant before being turned into a dinosaur.

When Lister and Rimmer go to the Captain`s office for the second time they`re wearing their usal outfits. But in the scene before that they`re wearing their Canary outfits. Would Captain Hollister let them change their outfits before going there?!

Ok, I have a question. Lister has mentioned this in passing a few times, but I really have no idea what it is he's talking about. So, my question is this: what are poppadoms? (sp?)

By Chris Thomas on Wednesday, October 06, 1999 - 3:45 am:

Poppadoms, also spelled pappadums: Another Indian food item. Thin lentil-flour wafers resembling tortillas, deep fried until crisp (from http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/6061/).

They are usually an accompaniment to a meal:
"Our order for the evening consisted of various curries, rice, and pappadums on a traditional plate." (from http://www.perthbytes.com.au/dessert/annalakshimi/)

They're quickly trying to mix up a bunch of roughage for Pete the Dinosaur, so why did they take the time to write Dino on the side of the bowl? Also why didn't they write his name Pete instead?

The cow is lowered feet first into the vindaloo, but then we see it sinking feet last, with no trace of curry on its hooves or legs.

Hollister gives Lister & Rimmer the time wand and tells them to leave, then Lister uses the wand so Hollister repeats his last statement. However, Hollister shows up at their cell to give them the time wand because they left it on his desk.

Rather ironic when Hollister asks them if they know what would happen if it fell into the wrong hands.

When Killcrazy & the other guy are hitting Lister & Rimmer, Lister is hit several times before Rimmer and they are all hit in the belly or chin, but when the fight catches up with them Rimmer reacts to the punches shortly after Lister reacts and we see Lister flying forward, despite not being hit from behind. Also, I don't think their mouths were pinched together as much as shown.

Future screen technology must be something. Lister is knocked backwards into the screen, goes through it like it was paper ;-) ;-), and we see no evidence of wires or projection units.

If time is undone so that Birdman is alive, why does he remember being eaten?

That dino eggshell was several inches thick. No wonder dinos went extinct, the young couldn't break out of their shells. ;-)

Jack B: I think Hollister knew how they were going to react, so he probably wrote up the signs in case they did react the way he expected them to.

By Chris Thomas on Tuesday, October 19, 1999 - 2:51 am:

Maybe someone on the ship had a Flintstones fetish and had a Dino bowl as part of the memorabilia (don't the Cat and Lister talk about Wilma and Betty in a previous ep? The Flintstones live on in the future and there are bound to fans who collect everything)

By KAM on Thursday, October 21, 1999 - 3:55 am:

When Hollister is talking about Pete getting sick he mentions something about carrots the size of tree trunks. Was Red Dwarf carrying genetically engineered carrots, because I doubt they would grow while inside Pete?

By Gordon Lawyer on Monday, November 01, 1999 - 4:45 pm:

When that baby dino was just partially hatched, I almost immediately thought of Sheldon from the old Jim Davis comic strip U.S. Acres.

By Richard Davies on Wednesday, November 03, 1999 - 3:30 pm:

I know this is a bit grose to tell you this but the lumps of carrot found in vomit are really bits of stomach lining, or so I've been told

By Chris Thomas on Friday, April 14, 2000 - 10:43 pm:

The Captain goes on about his ice-cream, orange pops and Coke - where did all of this come from?
Didn't the Cats eat most of the food... so there would then be nothing for the nanobots to recreate?

And the cow... yet another animal on board. Did this one go through quarantine?

By Merat on Friday, January 17, 2003 - 5:20 pm:

The big inmate did try to life Lister above his head, and seemed to be straining as he did so, so maybe this is why Dave flys forward?

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Sunday, April 05, 2020 - 5:18 am:

Why would they have a live cow on RD?

By Charles Cabe (Ccabe) on Sunday, April 05, 2020 - 9:00 am:

Milk?

By Natalie Granada Television (Natalie_granada_tv) on Sunday, April 05, 2020 - 6:17 pm:

Chris: Didn't the Cats eat most of the food...

Holly says in an early episode that they have enough food left to last several thousand years.

By Tim McCree (Tim_m) on Monday, April 06, 2020 - 5:28 am:

And don't forget that, of the four Dwarfers, only two, Lister and the Cat, require food.
