Inter-season changes

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Red Dwarf: The Dwarfer's Sink: Inter-season changes
By Johnny Veitch on Saturday, February 06, 1999 - 1:59 am:

Well, I took Andrew Corrocan`s advice and now I`m setting up a topic in The Red Dwarf Sink... I mean, the Starbug Lounge :-) ! The topic is the changes made between the seasons of Red Dwarf. I will attempt to list them all here but if you have any more, send them here.

Season One - Season Two
The titles are now red, and in a taller font.
Holly`s message is different, with a new effect on his head.
Red Dwarf`s shuttlecraft, Blue Midget, appears.

Season Two - Season Three
The titles are superimposed onto the actual episode`s first scene
Several changes there! Here are the ones I can think of:
Lister does not have his "Mugs Murphy" t-shirt.
Rimmer has a new "H" and a new green outfit.
Cat has some new suits.
Kryten is a main character, and is very different from in "Kryten"
Lister and Rimmer get new sleeping quarters.
Holly is female
The titles now have scenes from episodes in them.
At least one Starbug appears.

Season Three - Season Four
The titles glide across the screen
Starbug has a new shuttlebay

Season Four - Season Five
The titles are now written differently, in white with a blue line below them
Rimmer has a new red outfit

Season Five - Season Six
Starbug is the main ship, with no Holly
Starbug now has a kitchen
Lister and Cat have sleeping quarters on Starbug
There are now stairs leading out of mid-section
There are four seats in the bridge / drive room / cockpit / central command area
There`s a new R+R room in Starbug
Rimmer becomes hard-light half way through

Season Six - Season Seven
Several changes here, I won`t even attempt to list all these ones, here`s just a few:
Rimmer leaves part-way-through, and Kochanski replaces him.
Starbug now appears much, much bigger.
The kitchen is now built-in to the mid-section.
I`d mention the live-audience change, but nitpickers don`t deal with reality (Phil, how about making that the third nitpicking rule of conduct? You use it commonly enough)

Please send in any inter-season changes you can find.

The interseason changes you have aren't really nits as such- you missed some of the main stuff.

The whole ship completely changes in Season 3- I just about by the idea of Rimmer and Lister moving to the officer's quarters, but why the change in Drive Room and corridors? One explanation- they moved to a completely different part of the ship.

Or maybe Lister and Cat went inot stasis for a while, and the skutters redecorated under orders from Rimmer?

The reason I forgot to mention the main stuff, Ed Jefferson (what do you like to be called now you`re a moderator? Moderator? Sir? Sub-Chief? Edje? Edjeholo? Ed? Mr Jefferson?) is because I put them all in one Season Two - Season Three change: The drive room, the refectory, the cinema and the food dispensors are missing. (incidentally, "Bodyswap" features a whole new type of food dispensor) I forgot to write it in. Sorry!

The drive room isn't missing- it is there, but it has been modified.

Ed or Edje is fine.

1) We never see the Drive Room after "Parallel Universe". The rooms with the big computer screens are called variousscanning rooms.

2) At first, the Red Dwarf doesn't have any weapons at all, but then along comes "Aliens" - er, I mean "Polymorph", and presto! We have bazookoids!

1) Is this just your theory, or is this fact?

2) They never needed bazookoids before Polymorph. (Aliens? Don't you mean Alien?)

By Canadian Dwarfer on Monday, March 01, 1999 - 2:22 pm:

1) A little of both, Ed. While the other changed sets look at least a bit like their 1988 counterparts, the scanning room doesn't look anything at all like the drive room, so my guess is this is a totally different room.

2) Actually, they did sort of need bazookoids. In "Parallel Universe", the crew ventured onto what was at first a totally alien RD. Knowing Rimmer, he probably would have insisted that Lister and The Cat take bazookoids just in case the other RD crew was unfriendly ("Demons & Angels" comes to mind).

Also, the reason I made the reference to "Aliens" is because of a) the use of firearms that didn't take place in "Alien", and b) I found Lister's post-absorption personality very similar to Hudson's just before he got nabbed.

2) Holly forgot to tell them they had any!

By Canadian Dwarfer on Wednesday, March 03, 1999 - 1:51 pm:

Nah, that seems a bit out even for Holly.

By Ed Jefferson (Ejefferson) on Thursday, March 04, 1999 - 1:02 pm:

Common- she forgot to change the self-destruct protocols, and forgot to tell them there was no bomb!

By Mike Konczewski on Thursday, March 04, 1999 - 1:45 pm:

Didn't male Holly once forget one of the numbers during a 10-second countdown?

By Canadian Dwarfer on Friday, March 05, 1999 - 2:47 pm:

Okay, okay!

By Mike Konczewski on Friday, March 05, 1999 - 3:08 pm:

Sorry, CD, didn't mean to gang up on you. We just wanted you to realize, you can never underestimate Holly's stupidity.

At one point, I think they refer to their new 'usual hangout room' as the 'science room'. Don't ask me when, though. I always assumed it was a different place an' all.

White Hole, I think.

The guys felt that the officers section was nicer, hence they moved there. I mean who was gonna stop them?
