He was also a very innovative producer who basically founded the syndication market, upon which all TV production today is based. He invented the concept of deficit financing for TV shows (he would put up the money over and above what CBS paid him to air the show, but he would own the films, to be later syndicated.) The concept of filming a show was not standard practice at the time, but he persevered and got his way.
