Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Lost: The Island of Mystery: News, Announcements, and Rumors
By LUIGI NOVI on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 - 11:11 am:

The new TV Guide has a double page spread of 10 of the 14 regular cast members standing in the jungle facing the camera, with their real names listed right below or next to their character names. This is a good photo to use as reference for people who don't have the names straight yet, but for some reason, however, the other four: Locke, Boone, Claire and Hurley are on the next page, which is clearly the same photo, because you can see Maggie Grace's (Shannon) arm from the preceding one bleeding onto it. Hell, Vincent the dog is on the first page of the two-page spread. (His real name, incidentally, is Madison.) If they needed three pages, shouldn't they have used a gatefold so that you could unfold all three pages to see them simultaneously? Who came up with this setup? Man, four prominent characters aren't on the first two-page spread, but the dog is? Geez.

The same article features sidebars of each of the 14 characters, detailing "What We Know" and "What's Up Next." The next article after that is an Episode Guide from the pilot up to Special.

By Josh M on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 - 2:52 pm:

Curse them and their inconvenient photo setup!!

I glanced at the article, but had to stop reading because of the spoilers.

By Josh M on Saturday, March 26, 2005 - 1:06 am:

POSSIBLE CASTING SPOILER:

The HellmouthCentral.com Web site reported a rumor that Emma Caulfield (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) may be joining the cast of ABC's hit SF series Lost, on which former Buffy writer David Fury is one of the producers.

Although nothing is set in stone yet, it's something J.J Abrams and the producers are pursuing.

The release date for Season 1 DVDs has been set. September 6.

By Josh M on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 - 7:25 pm:

Lost gets a 1 hour special, airing April 27:

"ABC has found a way to squeeze a little more life out of frosh blockbusters Lost and Desperate Housewives---and possibly expand their already sizeable fan base to boot.

ABC has greenlit separate one-hour specials tied to both series, with the network's marketing and current programming departments overseeing production of both. But rather than serving up simple clipfests catering to current viewers, ABC is designing the specials to serve as introductory guides to the serialized shows.

"There can be a reluctance on the part of the audience to invest in these kinds of shows," said ABC current department toppertopper Lance Taylor. "What we're trying to do is keep those tent doors open and invite as many people in as possible to enjoy the last part of the season."

Added ABC marketing chief Mike Benson, "We want to do everything we can to make sure these series finish the season in the biggest way possible."

The Lost hour, set to air April 27 in the show's normal Wednesday 8pm timeslot, will be of particular interest to current fans of the show. That's because the special will take the bits and pieces of information the show has doled out about six main characters over the last six months -- and retell their stories in a linear fashion.

"You get to see how these characters are all interwoven and just how deep this show is," Benson said.

The special -- from Metropolitan/ Hodder Group -- will focus on the characters of Jack, Kate, Locke, Sawyer, Charlie and Sayid. "What we did was break it down to a core of characters that seem to cross back and forth between everyone's lives," Taylor said, adding that there'll also be a segment on the island itself.

Taylor credits Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof for the idea of telling the stories in a linear fashion."

By Anonymous on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 - 9:53 pm:

Interesting idea. Also probably makes for a good DVD extra... ;)

By Brian FitzGerald on Wednesday, June 01, 2005 - 11:55 am:

I think that the X files was one of the first to do that, with the Secrets of the X Files specials that ran on Fox around the time the show started to become a big hit.

By ScottN on Wednesday, June 01, 2005 - 12:24 pm:

The Lost special was very helpful to me, since I only started watching right around that time.

By Influx on Thursday, June 02, 2005 - 7:09 am:

I caught the first few minutes of the pilot again last night, and it was interesting in how it takes on a totally different perspective, now that I know all of the characters. The first time I saw it they were all just faces.

By J on Saturday, June 04, 2005 - 12:01 am:

Yeah, and you also notice that they have gotten a bit scruffier since the flight. I mean, Sawyer's hair -- it was so much shorter!

By R on Saturday, June 04, 2005 - 8:14 pm:

Also it does look like jorge may be a bit thinner. Just a bit. Sorta.

Looks like Michelle Rodriguez is going to be a regular next season as Ana-Lucia Cortez. So, either the tail section really did survive (maybe that's who Boone got ahold of), she moved somewhere else like Charlie did, or she's going to be in many many flashbacks.

By LUIGI NOVI on Tuesday, June 07, 2005 - 10:09 am:

Ooh! Ooh! Statement about Michelle Rodriguez and a "tail section"......must resist.....urge to make....off-color joke.....

Note to self: Check to see if the RedSox won the World Series again.

By R on Tuesday, June 07, 2005 - 8:37 pm:

Some spoilers in the article. Including:

SPOILER WARNING:
-Apparently Sawyer survives the gunshot
-The plane crash was deliberate, but not caused by one of the plane's passengers
-What's inside the mysterious hatch will be interesting, but not as interesting as the effect it has on the John Locke character, according to Grillo-Marxuach.
-The rear section of the plane — and additional survivors — will be discovered during the second season.

I didn't realize from the TV Guide article that you had to click on them in sequence. I got that now. Thanks.

By R on Thursday, July 07, 2005 - 12:28 pm:

Not really a problem or anything but an observation. Did anyone else catch the commercial for oceanic airlines that ran during the ballroom dancing program? I wasnt paying that close attention to it and didnt get it until they said the name of the airline and then bang zoom i thought wow! Interesting advertising.

By Josh M on Friday, July 08, 2005 - 9:03 pm:

Yeah, I thought that it was pretty cool.

By LUIGI NOVI on Thursday, August 25, 2005 - 11:22 pm:

POSSIBLE SPOILERS: In addition to Michelle Rodriguez joining the cast, as JoshM mentioned above, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, from HBO's Oz and The Bourne Identity, will join the cast as well, playing Emeka, a Nigerian character living on the island. Also, Jack's wife Sarah, played by Ed's Julie Bowen, will appear again in the season 2 premiere.

By Josh M on Friday, August 26, 2005 - 9:28 am:

More POSSIBLE SPOILERS: Cynthia Watros is also joining the cast as Libby, a therapist who was most likely in the tail section of the plane.

By LUIGI NOVI on Saturday, August 27, 2005 - 1:10 pm:

Good thing we got you on our side, Libby! :)

By Rona on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 6:12 pm:

Daniel (Jin) was on Jimmy Kimmel last night. He presented Jimmy with Walt's comic book as a gift. He refused to divulge any secrets from the upcoming season (he only said that they're filming the fourth episode presently).

I heard an item on the news that someone was suing the producers for stealing the idea for lost. Anyone hear about this?

By TomM on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 - 2:46 am:

An e-mail news release from the people at oceanic-air.com, the official LOST website, included these paragraphs:

Well, folks, our September 21st premiere is almost upon us, and both the writers' room in Burbank and the production in O'ahu are working at a fever pitch to keep you in televisual goodness for the coming season.

........

Episode four will be titled "Everybody Hates Hugo," written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, and directed by Alan Taylor. Episode five will be titled "...and Found," written by Executive Producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof — and if you've been watching, you probably know which characters will be featured in flashbacks therein — the clues are in the titles!

We hope you will join us on September 21st — until then, thanks for getting Lost with us!

By Gordon Lawyer on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 - 5:53 am:

Obviously, "Everybody Hates Hugo" will focus on Hurley. "...and Found" is a bit trickier, but I'll take a stab and say Mike and Walt.

By Influx on Wednesday, September 14, 2005 - 8:33 am:

They already had "...in Translation". Will we be seeing an episode titled "...in Space" soon?

By Josh M on Wednesday, September 21, 2005 - 8:27 pm:

From scifi.com:

"Katey Sagal is the latest actor tapped to guest-star on ABC's Lost in its upcoming second season, playing a woman named Helen in the new season's third episode, airing Oct. 5 and also featuring another appearance by Locke's father, TV Guide Online reported."

For those who didn't hear, Lost has once again been nominated for the Best TV Drama Golden Globe. Maybe they'll get it this time. Other Globe nominations include Matthew Fox for Best Lead Actor and Naveen Andrews for Best Supporting Actor.

By R on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 - 6:22 pm:

This is not about the show itself but my local channel. I don't know if this is going on anywhere else but the Lost Revelations special has been preempted for a stupid osamam bin robertson christian taliban propaganda special on mircles. I am so livid that i could scream. I have tried to call the station but have not yet reached a number with a human so i am leaving them a very irate email. That is for certian and during business hours tomorrow I am definately going to be calling and letting them know how peeved and insulted i am that they would replace a network show and reschedule it for 0130. I sincerely hope that this doesnt happen to anyone else.

By R on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 - 6:50 pm:

OK some good news. I managed to get a hold of a real live person by calling the newsroom. The person that answered said that I was not alone in being quite upset and that she had been receiving a lot of phone calls as well as the general sentiment that Robertson does not have a large fan base in the area. (Which is actually good news).

She then gave me the personal email address of the general manager of the station as well as his voice mailbox, only his VM was fuill and bounced me back out. Which means that the stations got a lot of complaints about this boneheaded insulting manouever and I sincerely hope they learn form this mistake and never replace a good program with osama bin robertson or anythign like him again!

By LUIGI NOVI on Monday, January 16, 2006 - 8:40 pm:

WOO-HOO! They won! Congrats to the cast and crew. :)

By Gordon Lawyer on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 7:00 am:

I'm guessing that you're talking about the Golden Globes. Did they win all the awards they were nominated for? If not, which did they win?

By LUIGI NOVI on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 1:24 pm:

They won Best TV Drama (for the second year in a row). Naveen Andrews and Matthew Fox, however, did not win for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama or Best Actor in a Drama, for which they were both nominated, respectively.

By Gordon Lawyer on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 - 6:55 am:

I distinctly recall that Lost did not win the Best TV Drama Globe from last year, though they were nominated.

By Josh M on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 - 8:16 am:

Nip/Tuck won last year. It's possible that you were thinking about Lost's Emmy win, Luigi.

By LUIGI NOVI on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 - 1:50 pm:

Oops. You're right.

By Josh M on Wednesday, February 08, 2006 - 12:53 am:

Scifi.com has reported that Lost will again run longer than 22 episodes this season. There will be 23 episodes this year, and the finale will once again be two hours long, giving us a grand total of 24 hours of season two. For more, check here:

According to tvguide.com, the finale will have quite a bit of Desmond flashback. Goody. Maybe he causes the plane to crash.

By Influx on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 12:19 pm:

I really hate when I remember to set my timer correctly for a change, and the TV listings say it's going to be a New episode, and I get another clip show. (found out when I put my tape in last night). There were a couple little things from the "Dave" episode that I had not seen, but that was it.

By ScottN on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 12:32 pm:

Last Wed was a clip show? Good, I was out playing bridge.

By R on Friday, April 28, 2006 - 5:17 pm:

By P.R. on Saturday, July 08, 2006 - 1:18 pm:

Bad news, Lost hasn't been nominated for a best drama Emmy for this season. Many critics think the show really nose-dived in quality this year. Enough with the flashbacks, and develop the plot more!!!

By LUIGI NOVI on Saturday, July 08, 2006 - 3:53 pm:

I liked the flashbacks, personally.

By MikeC on Saturday, July 08, 2006 - 6:37 pm:

I like flashbacks, but I see where people are coming from. After painstakingly delving through flashbacks the lives of the main characters, the second season...introduces a bunch of new characters and more flashbacks!

The episodes that use the flashbacks as a plot point, rather than as just the plot work for me.

By Josh M on Tuesday, August 08, 2006 - 2:07 am:

According to tvguide.com, Kiele Sanchez will be joining Rodrigo Santoro as one of the three new cast members this fall. Apparently, her character will be a potential love interest for Santoro's.

By Josh M on Tuesday, August 08, 2006 - 2:16 am:

Found it. The third new cast member is Elizabeth Mitchell.

BTW, the new season premieres October 4th.

According to Michael Emerson, the complete series DVD set will have an extra scene in the bonus features showcasing some of the time Hurley and Ben spend on the island after Jack's death, an epilogue of sorts.

Hmmm, maybe we'll get a 2001-esque scene where we see moments of them aging throughout their lives. Or something.

Don't know if anyone on the site might be interested, but the team behind the Game of Thrones podcast "A Storm of Spoilers" are in the midst of a rewatch podcast called "The Storm". I'm only familiar with Joanna Robinson from Vanity Fair, but she's great on the shows I've listened to, so I'm sure it's a quality podcast.
They're in the midst of season 2 as I post this.

They've had some high profile guests too including Jorge Garcia, Henry Ian Cusick, Damon Lindelof, and some of the show's other writers.

Check it out here.
