Holy COW.

Remember what I said about feeling sorry for Charlie?

Forget I said it.

By R on Wednesday, February 08, 2006 - 8:25 pm:

Darth Charlie begins his slide.

Theres a new sheriff in town.

Wow oh wow looks like things are heating up.

I liked Hurley's comment about time. And Sayid's reaction too.

fifties music did anyone else catch the phrase armed forces radio and USO in sayid's radio. Fifties music and duke ellington. Does make one wonder about the twilight zone.

I thought they said "WSO".

By ScottN on Wednesday, February 08, 2006 - 11:37 pm:

While watching this, a major nit hit me.

Somebody (most likely survivalman Locke) should have been able to figure out roughly where they are.

If they're north of the equator (unlikely, given that they started from Oz), use Polaris to find latitude. If they're south, use the southern equivalent (don't know what they use down there).

Longitude is more difficult. But they have watches, they should be able to time sunrise or sundown, and see the differential from Sydney time. This is the traditional method of determinig longitude.

The ear of the Big Bands (Duke Ellington and Glenn Miller) was the Fourties, not the Fifties. But, yeah, I thought about that (the Twilight Zone time thing), too.

So it wasn't a rerun last night???? My schedule did not have it listed as "New", and when I tuned in I could swear I'd seen that particular scene before (Jack rummaging through Sawyer's tent looking for pills).

I should have known they would show new ones during sweeps month!

If you want, Influx, I'll mail you a tape of the episode.

Why didn't anyone just tackle Sawyer to take the rifle when he walked away at the end of Act 4?

By ScottN on Thursday, February 09, 2006 - 9:20 am:

When Sawyer was explaining the Long Con to Cassidy, it was blatantly obvious just who the long con was...

Collateral damage, I suppose. There is always the risk that the gun can go off in that kind of situation and hit somebody. At that point it probably didn't seem like a matter of life or death to try something like that, even if they did have him outnumbered. I didn't really have a problem with that part.

I thought that this was a pretty solid ep, even though the promos led me to believe it would actually involve the others. Silly me.

I'm assuming that Sawyer used Charlie to keep an eye on where Locke hid the guns, though I don't recall that being explicitly mentioned.

Hurley's comment was great. He's just the right character to pull that sort of thing off

You know since I like big band and swing music I should have known that as well. Maybe I am getting old and all those decades are blurring together.....fourties fifties close enough....

WSO. It is possible I guess. I looked those letters up online and the closest thign I could find that might fit was the Winnipeg Symphony orchestra.

Well from what it looked like no one was really close to sawyer when he walked out so to jump him they would have gotton closer to him. What I wanna know is just when he plans on sleeping. Since he is out numbered ,and I doubt he can count on freckles to be helpful to him, the first time he goes to sleep is probably the end of his sheriff's career.
So yeah I didnt have a probelm with nobody jumping him then and there either.

From what I know you can use a sundial south of the equator and abit of math to determine your latitude. Other than that I am not sure.

By ScottN on Friday, February 10, 2006 - 8:35 am:

If it was WSO, then it was eastern US. If it was USO, who knows!

By R on Friday, February 10, 2006 - 4:58 pm:

What if it was the USO playing forties music as done by the WSO? We may never know where, or when, (cue creepy music) the castaways are.....

By ScottN on Friday, February 10, 2006 - 5:29 pm:

Well, my local station (KLOS 95.5) plays Xmas music by the TSO (Trans-Siberian Orchestra).

By TomM on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 8:19 pm:

Sawyer's flashbacks took place in Kate's hometown. That was her mother waiting tables.

By LUIGI NOVI on Monday, February 27, 2006 - 5:56 pm:

On May 2, we'll be able to read the manuscript that Hurley was reading in this episode. The novel, Bad Twin, which is written by Gary Troup (an anagram for "purgatory"), one of the passengers of Oceanic Flight 815, will be released by ABC sister company Hyperion Books. The story resolves around a private investigator hired by a wealthy heir to find his ne'er-do-well brother. When asked if that brother could be Sawyer, Hyperion President Robert Miller, quoted in the Feb. 27th TV Guide, responded, "I wouldn't know. I don't want to give specifics, but I think it will be fun for Lost fans and mystery fans as well. We were thrilled to receive this manuscript, and had just decided to publish it [when Troup's flight went missing]. We are very concerned about him."

Yeah, but if they did that, they may never find the guns.

By R on Sunday, April 02, 2006 - 10:18 pm:

True there is that. But then again between locke sayid and jack I'm sure they might be able to find them or get the info from sawyer.

Also how many people actually care about the guns? Jack, Sayid and Ana mainly isnt it?

Further Sawyer had to ahve had some help cleaning out the bunker so maybe charli's got some info. I dunno. wait and see I guess.

The ear of the Big Bands (Duke Ellington and Glenn Miller) was the Fourties, not the Fifties.

When they were tuning in the station, the announcer mentioned Duke Ellington and 'Cootie' which could only be Cootie Williams who played trumpet with Duke from the late 1920s until 1940, then went off to form his own band with a few side projects here and there. He rejoined Duke's orchestra in the early 60s.

So if it was from the 40s, it would have to be from 1940, which is not so unlikely as that saw the record 'Concerto for Cootie' which would later have lyrics added and become known as one of Duke's famous melodies: 'Do Nothing 'till you Hear from me.' The original wasn't a huge hit and the time but has become more famous. But it could also be from 1929 or the 30s, 60s or 70s.

This episode is the latest one I've seen as I work through the DVDs. So the rest of surely know more about the radio signal than I do. (In other words: no spoilers please.)
