While Ana, Sayid, and Charlie continue to search for Henry's balloon, Locke and Henry are trapped in the hatch when something triggers it to lock down. In their attempts to escape, Locke is badly injured and Henry must find a way to reach the button in time. In flashback, Locke remembers another troubled encounter with his father and the effect it had on his relationship with Helen.

On the beach, Jack and Sawyer play poker for mangos and medicine.

Locke backstory IV

Notes:
-Numbers sighting: The lock box with Cooper's money is number 1516. 15 and 16 are two of those mysterious numbers.
-Locke inspects Nadia's house, the same Nadia whom Sayid helped escape Iraq.
-Henry Gale's license has his address listed as 815 Walnut Ridge Rd., Wayzata, Minnesota. 815 is the plane's flight number as well as two of the numbers.
-At the end of the episodes, Jack and Kate find what appears to be a recent supply drop. This may imply that someone knows they're on the island.
-Unanswered Questions: What is the purpose of the lockdown? How was it triggered? What was the map? Who made it? Where did the food drop come from?

Thoughts:
-Looks like the Jack/Kate thing is heating up again. He even offers to walk her back to the beach. Aw, how sweet.
-I will admit, I was beginning to believe that Henry was telling the truth. Never doubt Sayid's instincts.
-I'd say Locke's job in this episode is definitely a step up from his last one.
-More twists. Supply drop, some kind of map. I wonder if Locke's going to tell anyone about that.

I gotta admit, I was believing Henry, and then the trio got to his "wife's" grave, I thought, "C'mon, you're not actually gonna descrate his wife's grave, are ya?" Show's ya what I know. Of course, this does not mean that he's one of the Others, but I was confused about what happened later near the end of the episode, when Jack and Kate found that parachute and the cache of food. Was that the stuff that Sayid, Ana and Charlie found? If so, how did they transport all of it there?

By R on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 - 8:24 pm:

No that was a Dharma resupply drop apparently. I wonder if that dropped when the lockdown began or what the point of the lockdown was.

Very interesting twist. I was begining to believe Henry as well. I do have to say I would have dug it up to confirm it as well in their place. Paranoia when on a wierd island with strange others and smoke clouds that knockdown trees and sounds like a hg wells version of godzilla is not a bad thing.

By R on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 - 8:27 pm:

I just had a thought. Since in this episode they got a resupply drop, apparently of food. Does this mean that the hatch's supplies are monitored somehow by the dharma people or what?

Also must not have been a craftsman toolbox.....;-)

By Influx on Thursday, March 30, 2006 - 9:01 am:

They should have called this episode "Lockedown". (Sorry!)

The safe-deposit box number was 1516. Now, I'm all for the hidden, "47"-type numbers (notice that the clock seemed to have stopped at 047:00?) but The Numbers are supposed to be so integral to the plot that I can't see the logic of them popping up in unrelated circumstances any more.

I would have had the toolbox or some other bracing item right next to the door before trying to raise it any more. I also would have put it under the door along the long axis rather than the short one.

More mystery -- was Locke meant to see that UV diagram?

Wayzata, Mahtomedi, Edina -- If you can pronounce these correctly you are very likely from, or have spent a lot of time in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. (fyi -- it's "why-zetta", "mah-toe-mee-die", and "ee-die-nah".)

So apparently "Henry Gale" was not a pseudonym, but the name of a real guy. Unless that evidence was planted by the Dharma group...

By ScottN on Thursday, March 30, 2006 - 10:31 am:

Did anything in the UV diagram resemble the symbols when the clock ran out?

Oh, and Influx, re: your last sentence, I welcome you to the club!

By Spottedkitty on Thursday, March 30, 2006 - 2:17 pm:

I've been reading over a lot of speculation threads about this episode and one thing that never seems to be mentioned is that what is the point of a "Lockdown" if the Lockdownees can just scramble up into the vents and move about freely? Is it just another "convenient TV plot point" or were the doors dropped deliberately somehow?

By Josh M on Thursday, March 30, 2006 - 8:19 pm:

R: Does this mean that the hatch's supplies are monitored somehow by the dharma people or what?

I suspect we'll find out... eventually. Maybe it's an automated thing. Or maybe someone is watching the hatch.

By R on Friday, March 31, 2006 - 8:46 am:

Well I'm sure we'll find everything out, eventually, maybe......

Somethign happened a few minutes ago that made me realize what was off about this episode to me. Jack and freckles (I love that name for her) found an air drop container not far from the hatch's front door. Well to get that kind of precision drop it usually has to be done from a low altitude. If you do it from too high an altitude cross winds and drift come into play and who knows where the thing might wind up. If you use a small enough parachute where the winds wont drift it then you could be dropping a bomb on the target instead of a crate (although it might not be a bad way of resupply it had better be tough cargo or air droppable watermelons) of food. And AFAIK robot controlled steerable chutes are not practical enough yet or reliable enough for that kind of precision.

So since more than likely you have to have a plane come in low why didnt anyone notice it? I mean even a "stealth" bomber makes some noise at low altitudes and they are not capable of that kind of cargo drops. So a low flying cargo plane should have been noticed by someone. I mena two blackhawks flew over at just above treetop level (I live under the Brushy Fork ANG training area) and they made enough noise to vibrate the trailer and I have DC 8s and 9s fly over every night goign to ABX in Wilmington and you can hear them for a good piece even though they are supposed to be about 3500-5000' at this range from the airport.

Very interesting. So either Dharma has some very precise high altitude parachute ability, some very skilled crews or stealth planes that everyone on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere couldnt see, hear or notice.

By Mark Morgan, Kitchen Sink Mod (Mmorgan) on Friday, March 31, 2006 - 9:04 am:

ScottN: I don't think so, but someone has posted the map itself, and a clear overlay of what each piece says.

Or the writers don't know what you know about airdrops and think that such a drop could have been accomplished from a high enough altitude that no one would hear the plane. (Hey, I'm a nitpicker, that's how I think...)

By R on Friday, March 31, 2006 - 6:01 pm:

Well there is that.

Speaking of the writing does it seem like the whole point of this episode was to
1: showcase Jack's poker skills
2: give locke a reason to be trapped so he could see the map on the blast door. (because if it was that easy to get through the vents why didnt he do that instead of trying to crawl under a blast door?)

Further I think I would have slid the tool box under the door with the long axis inline with the door so that is would have more surface area supporting the door. (this come from having accidentally run over a toolbox before)

Now speaking of the map. Very interesting. Why (and how) would it be on the blast door and written in somethign that can only be seen by an ALS? Looks like the entire island has been honeycombed with dharma (or is built by them) complexes. In the same proportions as their symbol too.

Cerebus? As in guardian of Hades? well looks like thigns might be entertaing for the folks than we thought.

Um, that would be "Cerberus". Cerebus is a warrior aardvark.

Weeeelllll either way it would be more entertaining, wouldnt it?

Oooopppps. My bad.

By LUIGI NOVI on Friday, April 14, 2006 - 2:05 am:

Two planes fly over Locke when he's at the Flight Line Motel, both of which have the Oceanic logo on their tails.

By Kevin on Sunday, October 08, 2006 - 6:46 am:

It never occurs to anyone that the lockdown could be a routine drill that happens every so often (108 days or whatever) and that it wasn't actually 'triggered' by anything.

I need to finish season two and then the first episode or two of season three, and then, thanks for Sling Box technology, I'll be able to watch the rest of season three in real time with the rest of you.
