I don't know....I'm really disenchanted with this show right now. We've had six episodes and--what? Very little has been accomplished! In the first season, you couldn't keep track of all that happened in six episodes. Now, as some have pointed out, it feels like we're just watching filler. At least, that's my opinion.
Part of my problem is that the question-to-answer ratio is getting too high. I feel like TPTB are just slapping questions on right and left, whereas they're not answering anything. Consider the season 2 finale, and look at the questions raised:
1. What is the deal w/the 4-toed statue?
2. Why did Hurley think that bird called his name?
3. Are Walt & Michael gone for good?
4. Why must they stay on course 325 to escape? And why couldn't Desmond escape the island?
5. What happened to Eko, Locke, and Desmond after the blast?
6. Why is Desmond's girlfriend looking for him, and how does she know the significance of the electromagnetic event (i.e., how does she know that searching for it will help her find Desmond)? How does she know about it at all?
7. What will happen to Jack, Kate, & Sawyer?
8. How will Jin, Sun, & Sayyid's assault fare?
Those were the questions raised just in the season finale. So far, TPTB have touched on #5, #7, and #8. They've answered #5 completely, given us an episode covering #7 (though that episode re-raised the question, since we don't know what happened to the three of them after The Glass Ballerina), and, as regards #8, have shown us that the three are alive. We appear to have an answer for Jack (I predicted that it probably had something to do with his being a doctor; his captors probably don't have an MD and as bloody useful as he's been to the castaways, it makes sense that the Others might want him), but all we've learned about Sawyer and Kate is that they live in animal cages and spend the days digging ditches. And the answers to #8 raise enough questions themselves. The intercom through which Jack can hear his dad, the submarine hatch, Kate's sundress, Julia's attempt to stage a coup, etc....
I feel like TPTB have gotten so into this rut of raising questions that they've become unable to write without raising them. It seems like they're unable to write an episode which provides good, solid answers, without creating a whole new set of questions. And this fall finale...it sucks, let me say that.
WOW. I just saw this episode last night. It seems that we finally got an episode where something actually happens with Jack, Kate and Sawyer. Kate and Sawyer finally hook up, and in a way that stems as much from character as plot, all three of them get an opportunity to escape but do not, it seems that something is going to happen with Locke, and a great mid-season cliffhanger. All I can say is, if we're back to square one by February, I'm going to be really ticked. But this ep had my heart pounding.
Some interesting bits of trivia from Wikipedia:
Fredric Lehne, who plays Marshall Edward Marrs, and Nathan Fillion, who plays Kate's husband, both appeared together in the Firefly episode Heart of Gold.
The message that Locke sees on Eko's prayer stick is not the actual John 3:05 (which reads "Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God"). It reads far more like Ezekiel 8:05 ("Then He said to me, "Son of man, raise your eyes now toward the north"). However, Season 3 episode 5 is the episode in which Eko died. Presumably the "John" written on the stick is an indication that the message was meant for Locke, which is why he understood that.

That's a long bow to draw Luigi. What significance would the 3 and 5 mean to a person in the situation in real life?
Bear in mind This episode is where I'm at at the moment (I'm watching one a day until I'm up to date)
Hey Rodney. Good to see a fellow Whovian on the Lost board.
Unlike Emily I watch other programs as well. I'm mod of the Enterprise, Friends and Futurama boards too.
