Desmond backstory II

Notes:
-Several advertisments can be seen in the soccer game broadcast: Apollo Candy, Hanso Foundation, Oceanic Airlines, and Mr. Cluck's Chicken Shack among others
-Obviously, Desmond is given many reminders throughout the episode including but not limited to 1:08 on his flat's clock, his microwave's beep, the polar bear in the painting, Make Your Own Kind of Music, the boat model and mention of the race with Mr. Widmore, and running into Charlie on the street
-Charlie's middle name is Hieronymus.
-We see the origin of the Penny/Des pic.
-According to the official podcast, Desmond does indeed travel back in time.

Unanswered Questions: How did the hatch implosion cause Desmond to become unstuck in time? What is the nature of Ms. Hawking's visions?

Was the guy caught in the falling debris in the beginning of Act 4 Locke? That's what I immediately thought, even though the jewelery store owner said he was supposed to die. Was I the only one who thought this?

That was... different.

I know PAL, but.... (SPOILER -- highlight to read)

Did the preview indicate that Jewelry Shop Lady (Ms. Hawking?) is Hanso?

Our new characters don't show up at all. Anyone else not notice at all?

I didn't notice if he was. All I noticed from that particular scene is that the falling debris sounds like one of noises that the monster makes.

And the red shoes. Definitely some Wizard of Oz vibes with those. "It wasn't a dream, it was a place."

I missed it, but the new issue of TV Guide pointed out that a military recruitment poster is seen in Desmond's flashbacks, on which the word "honor" is spelled as such, instead of "honour", as it is in the UK.

Okay, the way my wife and I saw this is that the 'flashbacks,' which weren't your normal garden-variety flashbacks, were what Desmond experienced after the implosion. That is, the hatch imploded, he laid there unconscious, and in his mind experienced the events that we saw. I never really thought he was time travelling, though, of course, he thought he was. He was reliving a past event, mixed with knowledge of the Island and the jewellery shop woman (who I expect will turn up again someday, not in a flashback). Having developed some psychic power, his dreams/flashbacks might be affected in some way, which is how I interpreted the presence of the woman explaining everything. (I grant you that can explain away any objection to this theory.)

But I've now talked to several people who just assumed the time travelling explanation was what really happened to him. Where does everyone here weigh in on this?

Luigi, the British Army recruitment poster also shows an infantryman with the M16/M4 series rifle, British Army line infantry don't use that, they use they SA-80 AKA the L85 bullpup rifle instead. Some British special forces like the SAS use the M16/M4 series.

Yes, I have too much time on my hands. :-)

Was the jewellery shop woman a Time Lady?
