With the Others on the way for real this time, Jack has a plan to have a little surprise waiting for them. Meanwhile, Desmond's latest vision of Charlie's death may have the ultimate upside, making Charlie consider sacrificing himself and causing him to reflect on his five "greatest hits".

Charlie backstory IV

Notes:
-Six Degrees of Lost: Charlie saves Nadia, Sayid's old friend, from a mugging in England. This event is #2 on his list.
-According to Jack, they've been on the island for about 90 days.
-L. Scott Caldwell makes her first appearance on the show since S.O.S.. Sam Anderson returns after his last appearance in Live Together, Die Alone.
-Karl has been secretly shadowing the Others. Alex seems to be the only one who is aware of this.
-The cable leads to an underwater DHARMA station, the Looking Glass. This station is jamming all transmissions sent out from the island.
-Rousseau was taking the dynamite in The Brig as a part of Jack's plan to use against the Others.

Unanswered Questions: Why are the Others jamming all transmissions off of the island? Was there really an accident in the Looking Glass? If so, was it related to "the incident"?

We may finally see Benard and Rose in this episode.

By ScottN on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 12:10 am:

We do. We learn Bernard is a crack shot from pheasant hunting.

Charlie used to be the only rock star *not* on drugs.

I couldn't tell. Did Charlie put the ring with the note, for Aaron?

Why didn't Charlie tell Hurley it was one of "those things", with a knowing look towards Desmond? Hurley knows what's what.

By Triggins (Triggins) on Thursday, May 17, 2007 - 3:54 pm:

When Charlie hit Desmond with the oar did anyone think "I hope the did not kill Desmond."

Maybe Charlie did not want to tell Hurley because Charlie knew it would not be a return trip for him.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Friday, May 18, 2007 - 12:56 am:

Charlie left the ring in the crib but gave the note to Desmond. I suspect Desmond will dive down or otherwise join Charlie next week and probably ruin the note.

I may be very wrong, but I don't think Charlie is going to die.

Oh. My. God. I just saw this episode.

The word today, boys and girls, is SUSPENSE, and this episode is TEXTBOOK on how to do it! Man! My heart was pounding throughout the entire episode! I mean, I read that five characters are gonna die this month on the show in TV Guide, Desmond, explains to Charlie his latest "flash", and yet, I"m still wondering if Charlie would die! It seemed certain he would, and then there was that brief fake-out where Desmond offered to take Charlie's place, and then Charlie insisted he not. That, combined with the impending siege by the Others, made this a place-getter on any short list of the best episodes! I thought the Other siege, and the resolution of Charlie's mission would occur in this ep, but I guess not!

Did Juliet or someone else mention if the Looking Glass was unmanned? I wonder if the point was ever brought up, and/or if anyone considered that it was being constantly manned. If she did say it was unmanned, then does the appearance of those two girls mean that Julie is indeed a triple agent, let the Others know that the Losties know, so that the Others were prepared for a sabotage attempt at the Looking Glass?

Narratively speaking, why did Claire lose Charlie's ring? I'm assuming this will be answered in the next expisode(s).

I would've hoped that Claire or someone else would've fashioned a makeshift baby sling (ya know, whatever they call those things parents wear over their shirts to carry an infant), instead of having to have both her hands occupied. In addition, even if she's become Vincent's de facto guardian, shouldn't she hand off that duty to someone else during the flight from the camp?

I LOVED how we saw this list that Charlie was making throughout the episode, and realized, when he finally wrote down #1, and the pronoun he used when referring to the preceding flashback, that it was not just a list, but a good-bye letter for Claire.

Triggins, it seemed pretty obvious that that was the reason. It was poignant that Charlie gave Hurley a goodbye hug, and Hurley just thought it was another hug, not knowing about Charlie's envisioned fate.

Why not, Kevin?

By Kevin (Kevin) on Friday, May 18, 2007 - 4:46 am:

Too much build-up. We know it's going to (or supposed to) happen. We know how it's going to happen. Lost is never predictable. They'll probably get right to the moment when Charlie pushes the flashing button, when we're expecting him to drown, and then do something completely unpredictable.

By ScottN on Friday, May 18, 2007 - 8:56 am:

Did Juliet or someone else mention if the Looking Glass was unmanned?

I believe she said it was flooded. Either she's lying or she was misinformed. Pick one.

By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Friday, May 18, 2007 - 12:30 pm:

See, that's why I think they might after all, Kevin. It could be a double-fake-out. They know that we may think that for the exact reason you mention, and may decide to kill him off precisely because they know that we might think that they won't. I mean sure, I could be wrong and you could be right, but how would that work in terms of Desmond's visions? The events in his visions can be averted, but only if someone works to make them not happen. If instead, Charlie does exactly what Desmond prescribed, then how could it not happen. Two possibilities: Desmond lied to Charlie, for reasons similar to why he lied to him about his vision with the crossbow in Catch022. This is supported somewhat by the fact that this time, we aren't shown the vision. The other possibility is that Juliet, being a double agent, tipped off the Others, who had those two women at the Looking Glass waiting for Charlie, which will change the vision.

" I read that five characters are gonna die this month on the show in TV Guide".

Thanks for that spoiler. One reason I never watch previews or read about them in TV Guide is to avoid information like this.

Influx, it might comfort you to know, if you haven't seen this episode yet, it was just a rumour.
