Note: "Spoilers" are not whited out, if you come to this board, you're presumed to have seen the episodes.
"Rescuer" flashbacks -- Dan is a physicist of sorts, Miles is a psychic, Charlotte is an anthropologist, and Frank is a pilot.
Frank was the guy who was originally scheduled to pilot Flight 815.
The "rescuers" are here for Ben (so he's p---ed off more than just our losties!), who has a man on their boat. Wheels within wheels.
They work for Abbadon. Naomi was in charge of the mission.
This had the feel of a set-up episode more than anything else.

My guess is that these people work for some branch of Dharma or some company involved with Dharma and they want Ben because of his betrayal of the Dharma Iniative.
That's a good thought, especially with the Charlotte flashback.
Question. Why does the Dharma Initiative put polar bears all over the place?
Why was Abaddon sure that there were no survivors from Flight 815?
I didn't read it that way. I think he had a hand in the fake airplane seen in the teaser (remember last season Naomi said something to the effect of the wreckage having been found?). It's not that he was sure there were no survivors but that he was telling Naomi that there must not be any--it was more of a reminder of an official policy that a statement of fact. You could even read it as an implicit order to make sure there aren't any.
How and why did Ben get someone on their boat?
If he did. He could have just said that to cause them to doubt and then suspect each other. Revealing that he has a man on the ship somewhat undermines the usefulness of having a man on the ship and doesn't really give him much strategic advantage other than a little one-up-manship, while lying is more in line with his manipulative personality.
(In the end, though, I think you're right and there is somebody. On a dramatic level, it's harder to pull off an 'I was only lying' anticlimax while the revelation of who it is is far more dramatically satisfying.)
All right, I changed the question to better fit your interpretation, Kevin.
