Sayid and Desmond confront Michael and learn the truth behind his mission on the boat. Meanwhile, Ben urges Alex to flee Otherville before the boat's crew come for them.

Michael episode IV (backstory, Season 2-4)

-According to Ben, the Temple is a sanctuary for the Others. According to his map, it is also a former DHARMA location.
-After the island, Michael tried to repeatedly kill himself, but according to Tom, the island would not let him.
-Tom tells Michael that he "still has work to do", echoing Christian's words about Jack in the final mobisode.
-Libby appears to Michael at least twice.
-Charles Widmore staged the discovery of Flight 815's wreckage, plane, bodies, and all.
-The inscription on the back of Jin's watch states "congratulations" and mentions "mutual cooperation", "business development", and "Mr. Paik".
-Karl and Danielle are both shot at the end of the episode and possibly dead.

Unanswered Questions: Why doesn't the captain want anyone to leave the boat? Were Michael's sightings of Libby all in his head or something else? How did Miles know Michael was using an alias? Who shot Karl and Rousseau?

Michael flashback. Possibly also a flashforward.

This episode is almost all flashback.

We find out what happened to Michael after he left the island. Ben and Danielle agree that Daneille should take Alex and Carl to "The Temple", but Carl and Danielle get shot -- possibly by Widmore's men (but how did they get on the island?).

Completely irrelevant revelation: Tom is gay.

So Losties can't kill themselves? Ooooooookayyyyyy.

The Others have documentary proof that Widmore faked the found wreckage.

Ben tells Michael that the Others haven't murdered any of the Losties. I'm trying to think...

Other than the attempted murder of Locke, and the death of Charlie, have the Others killed anyone? As Ben told Michael, Ana-Lucia and Libby don't count -- Michael did that on his own.

Based on the Preview... Aaron is one of the Six.

  1. Jack
  2. Kate
  3. Hurley
  4. Sayid
  5. Sun
  6. Aaron.

Why is Widmore so bloody interested in the island? Is it something he read in the Black Rock's log?

By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Friday, March 21, 2008 - 1:07 am:

So Losties can't kill themselves?
Luigi Novi: No, not necessarily. Tom said the island didn't want Michael to. If it didn't want anyone to, then Boone, Shannon, Ana Lucia, Eko, Libby, Charlie, Naomi, Karl, Danielle, the Dharma people, etc. would still be alive.

By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Friday, March 21, 2008 - 1:09 am:

Btw, Alex looked really fetching in this ep. She's never been unattractive or anything, but usually we've seen her all dirty and sweaty and with her hair pulled back while running through the jungle. In this ep, her hair is done a bit, she has a bit of makeup, and is wearing a more form-fitting T-shirt. Nice!

By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Friday, March 21, 2008 - 9:35 am:

Okay, re-reading the posts above, I see that you were specifying suicide, Scott. Important distinction. Then again, my theory is still possible in that the island merely didn't want Michael to do so.

By Influx on Friday, March 21, 2008 - 10:46 am:

If it follows that Michael's is the funeral that Jack attended, then death by other means is most likely possible.

I can accept the occasional apparition, but "it was all a dream"?! Grrrr. I have the feeling Libby will reappear in the future as I can't believe she would have been brought back just for this ep.

The whole "revelation" about Tom better have some major implications, otherwise, what was the point?

Did Desmond even have any lines?

Nice to have a straightforward answer up front in the show for a change. "It's Michael."

I didn't think that looked like Walt in the window, although it was supposed to be.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Friday, March 21, 2008 - 7:23 pm:

I think--or at least hope--that those shots that did Carl and Danielle in are the same kind we saw in the season two finale, which made Jack, Kate and Sawyer (and Hugo and Michael?) pass out.

Tom's revelation isn't that revealing. It's been rumoured for a couple years now and there've been hints before.

So what's the status of the next episode? Have they started filming yet?

If it follows that Michael's is the funeral that Jack attended

My theory, and that's all it is, is that it was Ben's. He died (will die) because Widmore's people finally caught up to him, which means that his efforts to keep Widmore from finding the island (I suspect all the people on the freighter will die in the season four finale, so Widmore never gets the coordinates) will fail; Jack was crying not at all for Ben but for the people still on the island, the ones the Six been protecting with their fabricated story. With Ben gone, it's all going to fall apart and Widmore will win.

Nobody would come to Ben's wake because he has no family, knows few people off the island personally, and those he does know can't stand him.

Only one problem with this theory: Kate's apathy to Ben's death.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Friday, March 21, 2008 - 9:11 pm:

Let me rephrase the last part. Kate's apathy to the effects of Ben's death. Certainly there's no love lost between them.

By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Friday, March 21, 2008 - 10:52 pm:

Luigi Novi: I dunno. The creators have been really adept at bringing back Ethan Goodwin for brief appearances when necessary.

As for Walt, actor Malcolm David Kelly, who was 13 when he appeared as the 10-year-old Walt in the first season, is now almost 16. Since Walt is still about 10 or so (11 tops), I'm guessing it was a new actor, though the character isn't listed on the episode's imdb page.

Well, Carl was bleeding out.

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 12:16 am:

I missed that, then. Maybe I'm just hoping Rousseau isn't dead (though I guess she hasn't been terribly interesting since the first season).

By Josh M on Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 2:56 pm:

I wonder why "Libby" didn't want Michael to activate the fake bomb? Is it the Island unaware that the bomb's a fake? Or maybe it doesn't want Michael working with Ben?

Ha! Ausiello was right!

Ethan killed Scott and nearly killed Charlie. Goodwin killed Nathan (though he claimed that Nathan "was a bad person"). And there was, of course, the Purge.

Ben implies that Widmore seems to know about some of its special properties, specifically bringing up its ability to heal certain injuries.

I don't think so. Those appeared to be electrical to stun them, and IIRC they went down writhing. These looked like gunshots, actually making them bleed.

I've heard April 24-May 22 will be the final five.

I assume you mean Ethan and Goodwin.

Not to mention Tom.

Well, with the island's healing properties, you never know.

Did we actually see Rousseau bleed? I know we saw Carl.

By Josh M on Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 9:52 pm:

I thought so. That's what it looked like to me.

By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 10:05 pm:

ScottN: I assume you mean Ethan and Goodwin.
Luigi Novi: Er, no, I was referring to that radical operation they underwent to be a lot closer to one another. :-)

By Josh M on Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 10:07 pm:

That was me, not Scott.

By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Saturday, March 22, 2008 - 10:32 pm:

Ohmigod, you and Scott underwent that procedure too??

By Josh M on Sunday, March 23, 2008 - 12:24 am:

I wonder if the Island kept Cooper alive the way it kept Michael alive so that it would give Locke or Sawyer the chance to kill him.

By Josh M (Joshm) on Monday, March 24, 2008 - 11:06 am:

Messages moved to the relevant board.

I interpreted that as having absolutely nothing to do with the island itself, just Michael's conscience playing games. We've all seen that sort of "nightmare" on other shows without any sort of supernatural rationale.

If she is, President Sheridan will be mad as hell.....
