Locke, Ben, and Hurley search for Jacob's cabin in hopes of getting instructions before the mercenaries on the freighter can return. In flashback, Locke's life and his apparent connection to the island is revealed.

Locke episode VIII (flashback)

Notes:
-Both Richard Alpert and Matthew Abbadon sought Locke out before he came to the island.
-Abaddon was the one that told Locke about the walkabout. (See Walkabout)
-Locke may have drawn a picture of the smoke monster as a child.
-John's "don't tell me what I can't do" attitude was around as early as high school.
-Locke sees a vision of Horace (from The Man Behind the Curtain) that leads him back to Jacob's cabin. Apparently, it was Horace who originally built the cabin.
-According to Horace, he died 12 years ago, placing the last flashback from The Man Behind the Curtain in 1992.
-Claire is with Christian in Jacob's cabin.
-Jacob and Christian want Lock and co. to move the island.
-Once again, the island seems to prevent Michael's death.
-Widmore's protocol has a DHARMA logo on it.
-Keamy kills Doc Ray in this episode, showing that at this point, time on the boat is behind time on the island.
-Teenage Locke has a Geronimo Jackson poster.

Unanswered Questions: Why was Alpert so interested in Locke? Did Abaddon know that the plane would crash at the island? Why did he encourage Locke to go on the walkabout? What is Locke's connection to the island? Why are Christian and Claire in Jacob's cabin? What has happened to Claire since the last episode? Why does Christian not want Locke to tell anyone that Claire was in the cabin? What is the secondary protocol? What is the device strapped to Keamy?

Having us believe that Kevin Tighe and Swoosie Kurtz are old enough to be Locke's parents stretches credulity enough. But in this episode, it gets worse: Emily's mother tells her that she doesn't approve of her relationship with the man she's with, because he's twice her age. So now we're supposed to believe that Kevin Tighe is twice Swoosie Kurtz's age???

Do we know for sure that the man she was going to see is the same man who got her pregnant?

By LUIGI NOVI (Lnovi) on Sunday, May 11, 2008 - 9:18 am:

I suppose it's possible. But I wonder if there's going to be a reason for such a thing that plays out in the story.

The captain tells Sayyid to stay on a bearing of 305, since that's the only save way to and from the island. However, 305 is the way *off* the island. The reverse heading is 125.

No, we're supposed to believe Kevin Tighe is 10 or 15 years older. But you have a point, seeing as they're the same age.

Oh yeah, I forgot about recalculating the age ratio as time passes. (But I think 10 is an exaggeration, since Emily was obviously older than 10 in the past scenes, and while it's possible the character was 15, the actress who played her looked way older than that.)

Apparently Widmore is connected with the Dharma Initiative. The "Plan B" that gets pulled out of the safe has a Dharma logo on its cover.

Why is Claire in the cabin?

She may have died, between when we saw Chrstian wake her and Locke finding her in the cabin. And what we saw is a possessed Claire. Just a theory I heard, but an intriguing one. She's so not concerned about the baby and in fact seems almost giddy, but in an almost sinister way. Notice how they said the baby is where it was supposed to be (it was with Sawyer) and how this ties in with Jack not supposed to be the one raising Aaron.

In regards to moving the island. If they move the island will the Hydra island move with it or will it be left behind?

By Kevin (Kevin) on Saturday, May 17, 2008 - 6:54 pm:

My island-moving theory:
This may be really out there, but the island could be a crashed alien space ship. The trees and everything grew on up of it over the years. Darhma discovered it and started using it for a while. Smokey is perhaps its security system. The aliens could be dead or we just haven't really seen them yet, or one of them is Jacob. He was injured in the crash, hence his 'Help me' to John. (Or Richard is one of them.) Ben is just a human but one who's worked out how to use much of the technology.

Yes, obviously I wasn't being literal. Just stating that the mother could be stretching it a bit. Emily's supposed to be 16, I believe, so the mother may feel a man her daughter is seeing that's 25-30 would be "twice her age", even if she's not being entirely accurate.
