Hey! I must have missed this one! Has it aired yet?
Nevermind. Just read 1013.
This is the final episode. After this, there is nothing left.
Well, it's the final new one to be shown, but not the last one produced and the last one as far as the storyline goes...
I know now why the Brains chose this one to be shown last. If you download the sound file of this episode's stinger from the MST3K web site at scifi.com, listen to it very closely and you'll hear the kid sing "Rock n' roll Martian, f***ing old Martian" quite clearly. In other words, the last thing we hear from MST3K is the f-word. My guess is that this is the Brains' way of giving the finger to the suits at the SciFi channel on their way out the door.
I don't think they chose this to be the last one shown. They had some permissions problems(I think) so they couldn't show it when they originally wanted to.
They had problems with the rights, but still, I thought that they had better stingers to use, so I think they did put that Fing old Martian thing in to do one last crack at Sci Fi.
Great episode! I finally got to see it when I went home this weekend -- I don't get Sci-Fi at school, so my brother was nice enough to tape it for me. I love the reviewing sketch: "The world is not awaiting a chubby, pompous eunuch!" "What do you mean, chubby?"
As is customary for MST3K boards, the great lines:
"Based on a story by Sigmund Freud."
"Nobody writes for the solo cymbal anymore."
"I'd better break things off with Nimue. It's really not fair to Zirella."
"Ride, Shadowfax, ride!" (I'm a sucker for a Lord of the Rings joke... :-) )
"She's threatening him with sex?"
"I'm waiting for someone to play the 1812 Overture."
"Saint Merlin -- not approved by the Catholic Church."
"He unleashes hellfire on the world and gradually calls it back."
"I can see why this story didn't sell, Grandpa Borgnine."
And all the Ernest Borgnine impressions. "And then the cat's flesh melted off..." "No, Grandpa Borgnine!"
I like
"what response do you think he's gonna get. He's dressed like that and asking women have you seen my little monkey"
Merlin: "I'ts my monkey--I can't seem to find it anywhere."
Mike: "Did you check under your robe?"
The skit with Ernest Borgnine's stories was pretty funny. It does seem to explain how the maker of this film added premise of Grandpa Borgnine tells frightening tales to corrupt his grandson. Like Mike said, "The kid's figuring out all the plotholes already!"
"And then the cat burst into flames, Billy..."
Remember the cat, Billy? Well, this was MUCH worse...
"Mm, rare, just how I like chicken."
"My cabinets are flying away!"
"No Grandma, you can't come out of the basement!"
"Now the dog fashions a crude gas mask out of dryer hose and some charcoal briquettes."
"Is that Satan's butt? Oh, it's just that guy's face."
"She's Julie Hagertying."
"Are we watching the Lifetime channel?"
"Loooooookkkkkk Mmoooommmmmyyyyy...."
"Welcome to Knight Burger. What will ye have?"
"At least the cat died quickly..."
This seemed to take a little while to get going and the second story isn't THAT awful. But the Ernest Borgnine segments are comedy gold and the continual impressions of him are great.
Best line:
"So the monkey killed the dog?"
"I told you it was a BAD toy!"
And then there's Merlin (shudder). "You're welcome!" "I can't find my monkey!"
Is the kid actually saying F'ing old Martian? The first time I saw it I thought he was mumbling "rockingroll Martian" really fast. The second time I thought it was clearly "f'ing old Martian," but that was after I read what it was he said.
Great line from the kid--"Oh you mean a clarivoyant."
Hi everyone. I just watched this episode and I thought it was one of the best I've seen.
Considering I've only seen three others (Screaming Skull, Hamlet, and Spider Island), that's not much of a compliment.
Best line: "If you don't teach your kids about bedspreads, who will?"
I don't think the kid was saying the f-word. It sounded like "Rock and Roll Martian" to me. It still made no sense, though.
If this movie carries the date 1995, why does everything in it (cars, the TV, various background objects, the kid's shirt and hair, etc.) look like the early 80s?
I liked the LOTR reference, when Merlin is looking for the monkey and one of the bots says "Ride, Shadowfax!" Especially considering Merlin looks almost exactly like Gandalf.
"Hi, I'm Bob Jack***"
"This looks like the most expensive thing in here."
"Hi, I'm Satan-approved."
"Now I've got to send you to Hell."
"Brought to you by LSD."
"Remember to believe in magic, or I'll kill you."
Does anyone recognize the cartoons that are seen in the second half of the movie?
Sounds like an anthology movie.
