More references:
Ed Gein (Crow misreads a name in the credits)--refers Ed Gein, a serial killer from the 50's. He used to skin his victims and wear the skin as a coat. His murders were the source for both "Psycho" and "The Texas Chain Saw Massacres."
"Going to Montana soon..." (Tom sings this to the incidental music)--lyrics from "Montana", by Frank Zappa, a song about a guy moving Montana to become a dental floss farmer. You really have to hear the song.
"It's the Earl Cammerbert tribe"--refers to a character on the old SCTV show, played by Eugene Levy. Earl was a dense but very self-confident newscaster, whose hair resembled that of the natives in this movie.
"It turned her into Leni Riefenstahl"--Leni Riefenstahl was a German film director, and one of the few great directors that remained in Germany after Hitler rose to power. She directed the two-part "Olympia", a documentary on the Berlin Olympics, and "Triumph of the Will", the notorious documentary/propaganda film about the 1934 Nazi Rally at Nuremberg. In her youth, she was a beautiful blue-eyed blonde, like the revivified old lady in this experiment.
Ed Gein also served as an inspiration for the character of "Buffalo Bill" in "Silence of the Lambs".
Moving to Montana soon, gonna be a dental floss tycoon...(in really low voice) Moving to Montana soon, gonna be a mennil toss flycoon...
Raising my lonely dental floss
20 points for you, Andy, and your own pair of tweezers (zircon encrusted).
Well, duh, Mike. Who DOESN'T have a Zappa album or two (or three or...)? ;-] I believe Zappa to be one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century.
I think I'll bust out the Zappa CD tomorrow and get funky with it.
"But I got dee kreestal ball!" He said, and held it to the light. So I snatched it all away from him, and showed him how to do it right ;-]
I was watching my tape of "The Day the Earth Froze", and I laughed when Lemmenkinen was standing over a snowdrift, which of course prompted J&TBs to sing "Don't eat the yellow snow, and watch out where the huskies go..."
I had to explain the ref cos I've already discovered some posters are a wee bit on the young side (right, Nyla?) and may not have heard of Zappa.
"Meanwhile, thousands of miles away in actual Africa..."
"Real Africa, Hollywood Africa."
"Make a hole, people, white man."
"Yeah, fall toward the blast."
"We've crossed the county line, he has no jurisdiction."
Good times.
