Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Kitchen Sink of Love: MST3K News
By Ben Jackson on Sunday, December 20, 1998 - 11:22 am:

Joel and Frank from the Comedy Central-era are going to make cameos on the season 10 premeire!! That's going to be pretty cool. It'll be good to see them again.

By Crow on Monday, December 21, 1998 - 1:04 am:

Actually, since we're all nitpicking here, that should be TV's Frank, shouldn't it?

By Mike Konczewski on Monday, December 21, 1998 - 9:01 am:

Rhino Records home video division announced that it will be releasing a season One episode, The Crawling Hand. Season One episodes were seldom shown after they were first broadcast, because Best Brains thought they were subpar.

Speaking of TV's Frank, did anyone catch his appearance on "Sabrina, The Teenage Witch." He played a baby magically changed into adult size by Sabrina (kind of like the Miracle-Gro baby).

Yeah, I was watching "Sabrina." Want to make something of it? :)

By GameranFan on Monday, December 21, 1998 - 9:43 am:

I'm sorry, but Mrs. Forrester is just not as good as Dr. Clayton Forrester!

We need to MiST more Gameran movies!

By Jon Wade on Monday, December 21, 1998 - 6:15 pm:

Here's something that might be newsworthy to some..
According to the Internet Movie Database, in 1999, there will be a new version of that classic bad movie "Santa Claus Conquers the Marsins."

By Brian Webber on Monday, December 21, 1998 - 6:18 pm:

Mike: I watch Sabrina too. It's no big deal. Of course immediately after that I switch over to Channel 9 and watch Homicide: Life On The Street. Talk about being on both ends of the spectrum. Like those people whose video cabinet has both The Little Mermaid and Deep Throat in it. Man. Imagine what would happen if the two tapes got mixed up. :-)

GameraFan: Let's see, there's Gamera vs. Godzilla, Gamera: protecter Of THe Universe, um, well, I think those are the only two that haven't been MST3K'd.

By Nathan K. on Tuesday, December 22, 1998 - 5:16 pm:

When does Season 10 premiere anyway? And how do you know the first six episodes already?

By Ben Jackson (Bjackson) on Tuesday, December 22, 1998 - 8:12 pm:

Season ten begins sometime in February(I think) and the titles of 1001-1006 have been announced by BBI and were posted on the Satellite News website.

By Jason Krietsch on Thursday, December 24, 1998 - 12:00 pm:

Joel is being considered to write for UPN, that's a step up from Moesha and those other horrable shows. He couldn't do any worse.

By Ben Jackson (Bjackson) on Thursday, December 24, 1998 - 10:36 pm:

Yeah, that's what I heard. another thing was that Season Ten probably won't start in february. the schedule is tentative though

By Mike Konczewski on Saturday, February 20, 1999 - 10:03 pm:

Schedule Change Alert! Beginning January 2nd, MST3K will air on Saturdays at 11 a.m., Sundays at 11 p.m. Both are Eastern Standard Time; check local listings.

By Mike Konczewski on Sunday, February 21, 1999 - 4:51 pm:

There's an uneasy rumor in MST fandom that the new schudule change and the lateness of the start of the new season could be bad tidings. If you want to let the SciFi Channel know you watch MST and want to keep it around, send a POLITE e-mail to Bonnie Hammer, VP Programming, at program@scifi.com. Make sure you put Mystery Science Theatre 3000 in the subject line.

By Mike Konczewski on Friday, February 26, 1999 - 3:55 pm:

Season Ten premieres SUNDAY, April 11th, at 11 p.m. EST, with a repeat on Saturday, April 17th, at 11 a.m. This will be the new broadcast schedule for Season Ten, a new episode on Sunday, repeating the following Saturday.

Don't forget, both Joel and TV's Frank will be make guest appearances on the new episode!

By Andy Jackson on Sunday, February 28, 1999 - 12:19 pm:

Hmm, speaking of Joel writing for UPN, I remember a couple years ago when UPN was showing MST3K reruns...a friend of mine saw Cave Dwellers on it, and I saw some movie with a dragon and that lady who used to play the old red-headed bat on Bewitched.

By Mike Konczewski on Monday, March 01, 1999 - 10:30 am:

Andy, you were lucky enough to catch MST during it's brief syndication run. It lasted about a year. The movie you saw was from Season 4, and it's called "The Magic Sword." It starred Gary Lockwood ("Star Trek", "2001") and Basil Rathbone (he played Sherlock Holmes in the 30's and 40's).

By Andy on Friday, January 08, 1999 - 11:58 am:

Hehe, the funny thing about it was that my friend didn't know what MST3K was, so when he flipped to it, he thought the movie looked interesting, and he wanted the little shadows to shut up so he could watch it ;-]

By Andy Jackson on Monday, March 01, 1999 - 2:08 pm:

BTW, did anyone else watch Leno last night? Dennis Miller was on there. He said his hobby is "collecting really bad sci-fi movies like the ones they show on Mystery Science Theater 3000." Applause *erupted* from the audience. Miller then said "Great show, great show." It got another mention during the interview also, but I can't remember the context.

By Mike Konczewski on Monday, January 11, 1999 - 6:50 am:

That's really odd, cos Kevin Murphy told a story about Dennis Miller in the "Amazing Colossal Episode Guide." The Brains met Miller backstage after a performance of his disasterous and short-lived talk-show. They had just done "Stranded in Space," and Miller gave them a hard time for making fun of a "good" movie. The Brains were stunned speechless, Miller just stared at them, and it was an uncomfortable time all around. Kevin blamed it on the bad vibes from Miller's show. I guess Miller has repented.

By Richie Vest on Thursday, March 04, 1999 - 9:18 pm:

Hey Does anyone know what Joel and Frank will actually play TV's Frank and Joel Robinson?

By Ben Jackson (Bjackson) on Friday, March 05, 1999 - 11:08 am:

I don't know. BB and the Sci-Fi channel are keeping it very secret. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

By White Star 44 on Friday, March 05, 1999 - 3:25 pm:

Speaking of Frank Coniff, he's now a writer for one of my favorite TV shows (mainly cause I adore Caroline Rhea), Sabrina The Teenage Witch!

By Ben Jackson (Bjackson) on Thursday, January 14, 1999 - 12:02 pm:

Yeah, I heard that a couple of times he actually guest starred on it. I should start watching it.

By Andy Jackson on Thursday, January 21, 1999 - 1:03 am:

Hey, if it was up to me, there would be no other TV except MST3K. A channel for each episode, looping 24/7. Then we wouldn't have watch idiotic shows to see cast members who quit. We'd just think, "Hmm, I feel like seeing Frank, channel 304."

By Mike Konczewski on Thursday, January 21, 1999 - 7:23 am:

You mean you'd "turn your crank to Frank"?

By Andy Jackson on Thursday, January 21, 1999 - 12:54 pm:

That's right. I would turn my crank to Frank ;-]

Frank rules!

By Kenny McCormick on Thursday, January 21, 1999 - 3:34 pm:

Andy: That's a little disgusting when you think about it. :-)

By Mike Konczewski on Thursday, January 21, 1999 - 3:48 pm:

Kenny--if you didn't see the episode, our little joke might seem strange. I think it was Season Six, and TV's Frank was trying to start a radio station. It's slogan was "turn your crank to Frank" and promised "more Reba!", among other things.

By Andy Jackson on Thursday, January 21, 1999 - 11:02 pm:

Yeah, Kenny, get yer mind outta the gutter.

By JoelFan on Wednesday, January 27, 1999 - 10:39 pm:

Does anyone know where someone can catch extra Mystery Science Theater 3000, besides the one episode a week on the Sci-Fi channel, and videos from Rhino Entertainment?

By Mike Konczewski on Thursday, January 28, 1999 - 7:58 am:

Visit www.mst3kinfo.com and go to the Tape Traders section. Some Misties are willing to trade tapes with other Misties.

There are also laser discs, but they just duplicate the Rhino videos.

Finally, you can build a time machine, go back in time, and watch Comedy Central. If you've got fine control on your destination, go for one of the Turkey Day marathons. They used to show MST all day Thanksgiving.

By Mike Konczewski on Thursday, January 28, 1999 - 8:04 am:

For those of you who are curious, here's what's available on VHS--
Cave Dwellers (episode 301)
Pod People (episode 303)
Mitchell (episode 512)
The Brain That Wouldn't Die (episode 513)
Eagah! (episode 506)
The Unearthly (episode 320)
Red Zone Cuba (episode 619)
I Accuse My Parents (episode 507)
The Atomic Brain (episode 518)
Gunslinger (episode 511)
Manos, The Hands of Fate (episode 424)
Angels' Revenge (episode 622)
The Amazing Colossal Man (episode 309)
MST3K: The Movie
Poopie! Vol 1 & 2

Everything but the last 2 items are available from Rhino Home Video; the "Poopie!" tapes are a collection of flubs and outtakes and are only available from the Info Club (you know, the address on the screen).

Buy 'em all; maybe this will encourage Rhino to release more!

By Ben Jackson (Bjackson) on Thursday, January 28, 1999 - 3:50 pm:

Also, there is a "Shorts" tape from Rhino which, if you buy it in the pack, you get some shorts! And Tom Servo's favorite host segments v. 1 and 2 (right?) from the info club.

By Mike Konczewski on Thursday, January 28, 1999 - 4:17 pm:

Yep, the host segment tape just came out. The (boxer)shorts come with a two pack, "Shorts!" and "Red Zone Cuba" (I think). You can't buy the boxers without getting the tape.

By Mike Konczewski on Wednesday, February 03, 1999 - 2:19 pm:

Episode 1009 has been announced and it's:

HAMLET (1960)
No, not the Kenneth Brannaugh version, or the Mel Gibson version, or the Sir Laurence Olivier version. This one stars Maximillian Schell. It was translated into German, filmed for German TV, then re-dubbed back into English.

I nominate this one, sight unseen, for the weirdest episode yet!

By Lea Frost on Wednesday, February 03, 1999 - 2:53 pm:

They're MSTing "Hamlet"? That is unbelievably cool! :-)

By Andy Jackson on Friday, February 05, 1999 - 11:46 am:

So through that wonderful process of translation into german, and then retranslation into english, we're sure to get wonderful dubbed lines like:

"To exist, or to exist, that is conundrum of mind."
(To be or not to be, that is the question)

"I greeted him with enthusiasm good, Heinrich."
(I knew him well, Horatio)

"Two dice, two spill. Two spill, maybe drink."
(To die, to sleep. To sleep, perchance to dream.)

By Herr Mike Konczewski on Friday, February 05, 1999 - 4:14 pm:

It needs to be more Germanic.

"Ach, impovrished Yorick! I him well knew."
"A convent to you should be going."
"Something the play is, inside of which the king's conscience will to be caught."
"Denmark something has in it which is not good."

By Fraulein Lea Frost on Sunday, February 07, 1999 - 5:57 pm:

LOL! How about these?

"Which for piece work a man is! how noble in the reason! how endlessly in the training bodies! in the form and in shifting, how expressly and admirablly! in the activity as like an angel! in the fear as like a God!"

"Ach, the this to to fixed meat would melt..."

"We know lord, what we are, but we do not know, what we can be. God is at your desk!"

"This above all: to thine possess you are applicable;
And it must, than the night follows the day,
canst thou, to be false not then to each possible man."

By Literatus on Monday, February 08, 1999 - 3:36 pm:

It doesn't matter because Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern are dead.

I am Literatus of Book. You will read. Resistance is futile.

By Mike Konczewski on Thursday, February 07, 2036 - 2:53 pm:

The worst has come to pass---

MST has been canceled!

SciFi Channel has decided not to renew MST for another season. The 13 episodes of season 10 will be the last.

I guess SciFi needs the money to continue making bad movies of their own.

Excuse me, but I have to go off and be depressed for a while.

By Lea Frost on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 11:05 am:

Excuse me for a minute:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

OK, that's a little better...

Between this and the fact that it's the last season of DS9, I get the feeling I'll be going through some serious withdrawal... :-(

By Mike Konczewski on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 12:00 pm:

I guess we'll have to do something besides watching TV.

By Andy Jackson on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 12:29 pm:

Just think, YESTERDAY I was thinking about how great MST3K is and that I hope it'd go on forever, then all of a sudden, a news flash:

"The Sci-Fi channel has decided to be REAL sstupid and not renew the greatest TV show of all time!" I've always known it would happen some time, but I had envisioned MST3K having a run of upwards of 15 years! I mean, there's LOTS of bad movies out there! WHY, SCI-FI CHANNEL, WHY?????????????????????

Well, I hope that whatever Best Brains decides to do next will be as entertaining and funny.

Let's remember in no particular order the characters who made this series what it was: Joel Robinson, TV's Frank, Dr. Clayton Forrester, Crow, Tom Servo, Gypsy, Cambot, Mike Nelson, Torgo, Nanites, Jan in the Pan, Pearl Forrester, Bobo, Observer, and everyone else. MSTies everywhere will miss you.

I'm going to curl up in my sock drawer, and sleep for days *sobbing*

By Andy Jackson on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 12:34 pm:

On a semi-related note:

It's the last season of DS9? YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No more will I be plagued with the melodrama, bad acting, terrible writing, and utter sstupidity that was Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (In case you can't tell, I didn't like it :)

I started hating DS9 the minute it went into soap-opera mode with the Dominion (and frankly, I hated Voyager since its inception, because it started in soap-opera mode).

Sorry, but Star Trek should have died with Gene Roddenberry. Most everything that followed his death was simply terrible, the one exception being Generations.

By Mike Konczewski on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 1:08 pm:

It seems appropriate to reiterate at this point:

Just repeat to yourself "It's just a show
I should really just relax."

By Ben Jackson (Bjackson) on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 1:09 pm:

I've been away from a computer for a while, so I just found out about it last light. Well, let me just say one thing(quoting Tom Servo):
OH MY GOD! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

We will greatly miss you MST3K!!

By Lea Frost on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 1:47 pm:

Andy, I will be very very calm :-) and simply say that the primary way not to be plagued with something is not to watch it...

By Todd M. Pence on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 2:10 pm:

I guess this officially completes the decline of the Sci-Fi Channel into the depths of depravity. The plunge it has taken, even in the last couple of years, is staggering. This used to be the coolest channel on cable, now it reeks. About the only thing they're doing good is showing Classic Trek, as well as the few other cool reruns (like Quantum Leap and The Twilight Zone) that have still survived the purgation of decent programming. What a horrible job the station managers are currently doing! Someone needs to tell them that "Chucky" movies are not sci-fi. Oh well.
End of rant (for now)

By Mike Konczewski on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 3:33 pm:

I agree with you 200%, Todd. When it was first announced that they were carrying MST, I was willing to give SciFi Channel the benefit of a doubt. That doubt has been erased; I now know that SF channel caters to the lowest possible denominator. They were never more than a reflection of their parent channel, the USA Network, wonderfully spoofed in the MST skit "Titles of USA movies" (The Crotchless Killers, The Edible Underwear Murders, Naked Came the Nude, etc.).

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm boycotting SF and USA as of now (except for MST, of course). And don't forget to send your complaint e-mails to program@scifi.com.

By Richie Vest on Thursday, February 25, 1999 - 4:56 pm:

10 Years is a long time for any show. I hope however that someone will pick up Seasons 1-10 and show them. Tom Servo is dead! Long Live Tom Servo!

By Mike Konczewski on Friday, February 26, 1999 - 6:13 am:

Very unlikely to happen, Richie. Negotiating rights for rebroadcast is very difficult, since you have to negotiate both with Best Brains and the producer of the cheezy movie. Some of the rights have lapsed (like "Catalina Caper") because the producers jacked up the price.

I hope Rhino steps up its rerelease of old episodes on tape. I'm dying to see the Alternate Universe skit on "Last of the Wild Horses."

By Jason Krietsch on Friday, February 26, 1999 - 12:36 pm:

Does anybody know if Sci Fi will continue to show reruns after they take it off? If they do, the will lose a ton of viewers.

By Eric Cartman on Friday, February 26, 1999 - 2:38 pm:

This sucks a** dude! Sci-Fi Channel is loaded wih a bunch of pig f***ers! Lousy f***ing mother f***ers! Pieces of sh**!

By Kyle Broslovsky on Friday, February 26, 1999 - 2:46 pm:

Hey! Sci-Fi Channel! You know what you [beep]ing like? You [beep]ing like to [long continuous string of beeps] and [another long string of beeps].

By Mike Konczewski on Friday, February 26, 1999 - 3:08 pm:

Jason--I haven't heard anything beyond the announcement that there won't be a season 11. Season 10 will be thirteen episodes long. I'm guessing they'll rerun them once or twice, which will take them to the end of 1999.

Comedy Central ran MST reruns for about two years after the last original episode. It all depends on the contract Best Brains and SF Channel.

Hey, Eric & Kyle--why don't you point that stuff at Sci-Fi Channel? programs@scifi.com

By Ben Jackson (Bjackson) on Friday, February 26, 1999 - 3:52 pm:

I'll never, ever watch the Sci-Fi channel again if they don't show reruns. I've calmed down enough after my period of depressed and sepreation anxiety, so I'll just say this:
In the not too distant future,
On Science-Fic TV,
There was a great show staring Mike Nelson,
That made fun of bad movies.
They'd make funny jokes, and comments too
They were doing all of this just for you,
And the Sci-Fi Channel said "Hey, that's cool
We'll pick you up for three years and then we'll toss you into spa-ace"

Well, actually, that went on like that before I came to my senses. I guess I was still(am still) angry at the Sci-Fi Channel, but we should remember that they saved the show. Now, after ten great years, we can look back and think to ourselves,"It's just a show, I should really just relax for Mystery Science Theater 3000!" Or I mean that it was a great show, but we all knew it wasn't going to last forever. 10 years is long for any show, no matter how good. I can't wait to see what best Brains comes up with next.

BTW, Eric and Kyle, please keep the [bleeps] to a minimum. Thank you so much

By Richie Vest on Friday, February 26, 1999 - 7:06 pm:

Folks Hey You know the Best Brains might also want to end the show to you know Dont blame this all on the SCI-FI Channel.

And NO I am not defending SCI-FI They show a lot of Worthless Stuff! Also, They did not want to pick up Crusade!

By Ben Jackson (Bjackson) on Saturday, February 27, 1999 - 10:02 am:

Actually, I comepletely agree. Best Brains might just want to move on to something else. But, y'know, It's had(going to have had) a great ten years. And, not to defend Sci-Fi, but if they hadn't picked it up, then we wouldn't have even had a season 8! So, let's salute one of the greatest TV Shows of all time!

By Jason Krietsch on Saturday, February 27, 1999 - 6:35 pm:

I just heard that they WILL continue Reruns until 2001. Too bad they won't have new episodes that long.

By Wishful Thinker on Sunday, February 28, 1999 - 1:43 pm:

I heard a rumor that NBC bought the rights to MST3K, and will show them movies again, but only movies that NBC has bouht the rights to (like Titanic, Men In Black, Star Trek VI, etc.) and this may include TV movies.

By Mike Konczewski on Monday, March 01, 1999 - 11:14 am:

Richie--the news I've heard is that Best Brains were willing to produce more shows, but Sci-Fi doesn't want to buy them. The contract runs until 2001, so no one else can show MST episodes (new or old) until that 2002.

Wishful--that's completely unfounded.

I've calmed down with my bad attitude towards SF Channel, but I'm still very disappointed with their decision. The quality of SF Channel's original programming is very low, with MST being the almost sole exception. Once I get all the season 10 episodes on tape, I don't have any other reason to watch SF Channel (unless they pick up Doctor Who).

By Jason Krietsch on Monday, March 01, 1999 - 2:01 pm:

The shows on Sci Fi are so bad is so people can make fun of it on line. go to www.scifi.com/screengrab/startcaption, then read Tom Servos little explaination too see what I mean.
You can have a little fun for the last few months of existence as we know it.

By Jason Krietsch FirebrandX on Tuesday, March 02, 1999 - 5:06 pm:

This isnt really MST news, but I think it should be said. If you are a capper, see my above posting for more info about capping, you might have heard me preaching this: Turn your back on The SFC, boycot it and the other USA networks, if you are a member of the dominion, cancel your membership if the worst does come to past, there are others who agree with this action. I know it is extreme, but extreme cases call for extreme measures. (and a helluva lot of old cliches to get your point across)

By Mike Konczewski on Wednesday, March 03, 1999 - 12:33 pm:

I agree with you, Jason. I know that Sci-Fi Channel is saying that this was an amicable split, that they made the decision because of expense/revenue decision, yada yada yada. What they have to realize is that we don't watch TV shows because we think they're cost effective, we watch them because they're good. And with the cancellation of MST, "good" is going to be difficult to find on SFC. I can count them on the fingers of one hand: Star Trek, The Anti-Gravity Room (when I can find it!), and The Twilight Zone. Oh, and I hear they'll be carrying ReBoot soon. But how many of those are SFC original programs? 0.2, if you count the new bits around Star Trek.

Make yourself heard! Write to programs@scifi.com

By No Namer on Wednesday, March 03, 1999 - 4:10 pm:

I wasn't getting the sci-Fi channel anyway thanks to those lousy no good bastards at TCI, but we were willing to pay extra for Digital Cable (our locATION PREVENTS SATELLITE FROM WORKING) so we could get it. No more. Yeah, I'll miss ut on Turner Classic Movies, and Starz, but when youre a POed as I am...

By Mike Konczewski on Thursday, March 04, 1999 - 8:31 am:

To all my fellow MST fan friends--

If you'd rather light a single Hamdinger than curse the darkness of SciFi Channel, there are ways to do it. Follow this link to help save MST:
Save MST3K

Remember, if you're going to write a letter/fax/e-mail in support of the show, BE POLITE!!!!. Calling someone an idiot or something unprintable is not a good way to change their mind. Be mature, be intelligent, and BE POLITE!

By Mike Konczewski on Friday, April 23, 1999 - 3:03 pm:

I think the end is here. I just read a very sad story about Best Brains HQ. They've already dismantled the sets and catalogued the props. The props are going to be sold off in an auction sometime later this summer.

By Nawdle on Tuesday, April 11, 2000 - 11:39 am:

Here's some news. Mike Nelson,Kevin Murphy,Bill Corbett,Paul Chaplin and Patrick Brantseg have started a new website called TimmyBigHands.com.

The address is:
http://www.timmybighands.com

I liked the crossword myself.:)

By Ben Cohen on Tuesday, February 13, 2001 - 4:51 pm:

Sadly, Timmybighands has bitten the dust like so many content sites before it. What a bummer.

By kerriem. on Tuesday, February 13, 2001 - 5:07 pm:

Boy, that was quick. What happened?

By Gordon Lawyer on Wednesday, July 11, 2001 - 5:58 am:

There's an MST3K tribute in the Dead Presidents supplement of the Deadlands RPG (for those not familiar with Deadlands, the setting is sort of what Wild, Wild West would have been like if it had been created by a big fan of H.P. Lovecraft and given a dash of the X-Files). On page 9, there's an illustration of a mad scientist working on a test subject. The mad scientist is Dr. F and the test subject is Frank. Also in the illustration are a mug with the Gizmonics logo on it and a jar labeled Best Brain. I believe there are others, but I can't recall them.

By Callie on Friday, October 10, 2003 - 5:59 am:

Is Wes the moderator still around? Some of the MSTings pages seem to be getting enormous and I've not seen his name anywhere on Nitcentral for ages.

By Frobisher, the.... on Sunday, April 09, 2006 - 5:56 pm:

By JD (Jdominguez) on Thursday, November 28, 2013 - 7:16 pm:

Hopefully none of the MiSTies left here missed the great 2013 Turkey Day Marathon hosted by Joel Hodgson!

The lineup was:
Space Mutiny
I Accuse My Parents
Werewolf
Cave Dwellers
The Final Sacrifice
Mitchell

And accompanying it, some blockbuster closure to the Joel vs. Mike question, in which Joel reveals the Mike episodes he likes (his favorite is The Final Sacrifice) as well as his willingness to guest on a Rifftrax!
