607 - Bloodlust

To be fair to this movie, there are far worse MST3K films out there. But this one is still bad. It begins with a classic short, "Uncle Jim's Dairy Farm", and moves on to the main attraction.

The film itself features a benign Mr. Belvedere type that enjoys hunting people. We find that Robert Reed and his idiotic friends are his prey for the film.

The stupidest scene is probably when the bad guy thinks his targets are in a dark room, so he sits and delivers a five-minute monologue about how he knows someone is in there, as he slowly turns the lights on one by one.

The two best riffed scenes are (1) when the guard surprises the two girls in the head room, and ends up boiled to death ("WAHHH! RICKY!"), and (2) the death of Bellow, who dies in a cross-like position, leaving Mike and the Bots to ponder "Why this symbolism? Did Christ hunt people down and kill them?"

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO?

Wilton Graff (Dr. Balleau) died in 1969, with "Bloodlust" being the end of a long career of character parts in B to low-A pictures.

June Kenny (Betty) basically ended her acting career after this. She had appeared in various schlock films, including "Earth vs. the Spider."

Joan Lora (Jeanne) had an even less notable career than Kenny, and has not been seen since "Bloodlust."

Eugene Persson (Pete) appeared in the "Ma and Pa Kettle" series as one of the Kettle children, and was also in "Earth vs. the Spider." He has not been seen since "Bloodlust."

Walter Brooke (Dean) had a lengthy career, dying in 1986, with his film being "Jagged Edge." Brooke's films vary from leads or big parts in B films to minor roles in A films ("The Andromeda Strain"). He was D.A. Scanlon on the short-lived "Green Hornet" program, and has appeared in just about every TV program as a guest star. He may be best known for saying the infamous line--"Plastics" in "The Graduate." (he did not take his own advice)

Lilyan Chauvin (Mrs. Balleau), who looks like Julie Newmar to me, is a French actress that continues acting today in character roles in varying quality movies. She was Joey's Grandma in an episode of "Friends" and the spooky Grandma in the "X-Files" episode about "The Calusari."

(we see the drunken Tony) "Ah, Robert Maxwell: The Untold Story..."

"Seriously folks, if you'd just BEAR with me!"

"The bear was shot mid standing-ovation!"

(as Bellow babbles on in the dark) "He does this twice a day. Sometimes he actually catches someone!"

"I'll just make wry comments..."
