Of course, this film has Ed Wood's infamous addition of an atomic explosion to the final scene where the octopus attacks Bela Lugosi? Why is the explosion there? BILC (Because It Looks Cool).
I thought that he was using atomics to enhance his test subjects? I know that doesn't make much sense either, but I think thats why Wood put that in there.
According to Tim Burton's "Ed Wood" biopic, Wood had to add an explosion to the film for it's ending thanks to Old Man McCoy, the meat packer who ended up financing it after Wood couldn't pay the $60,000 to Larchmont Studios. Wood originally believed that Loretta King would provide the money after Wood gave her the role in the film that he had originally meant for his girlfriend Dolores. But she didnt.
And the other condition that McCoy wanted was for his "slow" son to be cast as the film's leading man. We didnt see much of him, and after "Bride Of The Monster" wrapped up, we did not see either of them again. Oh, and Dolores left Ed afterwards as well. At least according to the movie he did, as I already said elsewhere, it was full of glaring historical inaccuracies.
So there's the answer!
