1103 - Time Travelers

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Mystery Science Theater 3000: Season Eleven (funded by Kickstarter): 1103 - Time Travelers

Comet ran this film about two months, or so, ago, so one thing I noticed about the MSTed version was they actually cut the ending down. In the film there is a long, pointless sequence of earlier scenes in the movie.

Erik: “It looks almost prehistoric.”
Jonah: “Or like Reno.”

Erik: “What’s the reading, Steve?”
(as Steve): “It says, ‘Your wish is granted.’ I’m gonna be big!”

“Do I get paid overtime for travelling over time?”

(The team runs into a narrow rocky ravine)
“No, no, this is where you get kidnapped by Jawas!”

“Thanks for womansplaining that for me.”

Varno: “Let me show you something. I think it may interest you all.”
(as Varno): “It’s called Interstellar. It’s got a very similar plot, but Matthew McConaughey’s in it.”

(Offscreen explosion)
“Oh, sorry, something exciting’s happening in another movie.”

Reena: “See you at ten?”
Danny: “Try and stop me.”
(as Reena): “That’s what Mace is for.”

Reena: “What do you think of our lumichord?”
Crow: “It stinks!”

(Danny and Reena kiss)
Tom: “Hey, Jonah, it’s you and your pillow!”

Willard: “Stand aside. I’ll finish him off.”
Carol: “No!”
(as Carol): “I found him first. I get to finish him off!”

Varno: “None of them has ever penetrated before.”
(Jonah and the Bots cough uncomfortably)

Willard: “I ...” (He pauses and looks at Varno.)
(as Willard): “Line!”

Willard: “We must consider the greater good!”
Jonah and the Bots (simultaneously in a monotone): “The greater good.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, the Blandtastic Four.”

Reena: “Beauty’s only skin deep.”
Danny: “Well, it’s deep enough, isn’t it? What do you want – a lovely liver?!”
Reena: “Please don’t joke.”
(as Reena): “My mother died from lovely liver.”

[Ah, Joel. (sighs happily) I spent the whole of the scene wondering whether he would speak or not but I guess it was better that he didn’t. As it was, you could ask why the Bots didn’t recognise their father!]

Varno: “Certain principles can be modified for use in perfecting your time warp portal. Come.”
(as Varno): “Let’s try the time warp again.”

“Don’t just do something, stand there!”

Steve: “I’m sure of one thing.”
Tom: “Bitcoin.”

“The lesson here: always walk into a pitch-black time machine because, ponies!”

The host segment on time window safety cracked me up. I've had to suffer through my share of boring work safety lectures featuring tortured acronyms.

Jonah's crack about the Bechdel score being zero was erroneous. Earlier in the film, Carol and Gadra talk about the photon drive.

I take it this is not the 1976 TV Movie/pilot that Irwin Allen made.

This was a theater release in 1964. It could be seen as something of a bellwether for the trend where science fiction movies took a more pessimistic turn in the late 1960s and the 1970s.

Looked it up on Wikipedia.

Turns out I have seen this movie. It was decades ago, but I remember not being impressed.
