"Best" MSTed Movie

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Kitchen Sink of Love: "Best" MSTed Movie
By Lea Frost on Sunday, August 08, 1999 - 12:35 am:

Hey, there's a topic for the *worst* MSTed movie, so why not one devoted to the best of the worst? In other words, I'm not talking about MST3K *episodes*, of course, but about the movies being riffed. Which one do you think is the least putrid?

I'm going to have to go with the obvious choice and say "Hamlet," because...hell, it's HAMLET! If nothing else, the script is still good. :-)

"I was a Teenage Werewolf". Or any of the first few of the Sci Fi episodes. They were funny, but not all out horrible.

My pick for the best MST movie is "This Island Earth" I always thought it started off well with the building of the interocitor & the pilotless plane but, it got off course when they went to the secret lab. The giant foreheads on the aliens was a big mistake. In the original story they looked just like humans. The special effects are also good for the time in which it was made.

IIRC, Servo said of The Magic Sword that it wasn't too bad. And its got Basil Rathbone as the villain.

Yeah, picking 'This Island Earth' for the movie was a fairly good-sized goof, inasmuch as they managed to alienate many die-hard sci-fi buffs (among whom the film is considered an early classic).

I thought Parts: the Clonus horror, was decent. It had a great stinger for an ending.

Yeah, but who says you can't make fun of good movies? There are TONS of Star Wars spoofs out there....

By Kinggodzillak on Saturday, February 23, 2002 - 6:48 pm:

I actually can't see how Captain Scarlet is MiSTiable. Stingray - perhaps. Space : 1999 DEFINITELY. But not Captain Scarlet......

By Todd M. Pence (Tpence) on Monday, March 28, 2011 - 2:35 pm:

"Jack Frost", "Hercules Unchained" and "The Magic Sword" are among the ten most watchable? Uh . . . I don't think so.

By Todd M. Pence (Tpence) on Monday, March 28, 2011 - 2:47 pm:

My list would include:

Women of the Prehistoric Planet
Rocketship X-M
Stranded in Space
Space Travelers
Teenagers From Outer Space
Tormented
The Girl in Lover's Lane
This Island Earth
Time Chasers
Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders

By ScottN (Scottn) on Monday, March 28, 2011 - 5:14 pm:

No list is complete with out any Gamera movies!

By Gordon Lawyer (Glawyer) on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 - 7:10 am:

I must respectfully disagree, Mr. Pence. The Magic Sword fully deserves its top spot and, if anything, Jack Frost was ranked far too low. Not having seen Hercules Unchained, I can't say about that one way or another.
