My book backlog is so gorram huge I'm probably not even gonna buy it this year, but mayeb next year.
Anyway, I'm curious as to who did the cover art. It only shows up at the Xilbris site, and not very big either, but it looks cool.
Brian!
A buddy of mine named Sonny Carder (who by the way also did the Nitpicker Trio on United We Nitpick). Here's a link to a larger version of the cover. It's a little fuzzy because of the compression but it will give you a bett idea!
Phil
Well, it was nice work, but that little symbol at the very bottom, I'm not sure what it means but it looks familiar.
I think it looks like an abstract riff on the Eye of Horus
Actually, I made that because I wanted some ancient looking iconography to go along with a particular idea that keeps cropping up in the book. (read the book, you'll understand. ;-)
As far as what it means...it stand for "sun|son/wind/rain|reign".
Phil
Is there any particular reason why there isn't a clever homonym for 'Wind' the way there is for 'Son/Sun' and 'Reign/Rain'? Is it because of something in Revelation?
Thande, I don't think there *is* a clever homonym in English for 'Wind'. I suspect if there had been one, the Chief would have used it.
Since we're all nitpickers here ;) I may as well point out that homonyms are words which are spelled the same way - words which are pronounced the same way but spelled differently are homophones.
Phil, is that your arm on the cover??
You're right, Specter. I meant homophone.
Da Cheef's been working out!
Actually, it was me who got it wrong. I always get those mixed up.
I didn't really mean a real homophone, just something more like e.g. "Wynde", seeing as it's the name of an race of aliens/angels. But I wondered if there was a direct reference in Revelation to 'the Wind', and that was the source.
Maybe the four winds of the earth being held back by the angels?
After looking, that's the closest I can find too.
Greetings All!
No that's *not* my arm! That's Gary King's arm. He's the owner of One On One Body works here in Springfield. That guy is huge! Just to get pumped up for the photo he picked up two 100lbs *dumbbells* and did several presses!!!
As far as the "wind" goes, the race of titans that has taken over the world call themselves the Wind. (which, of course, is not only a name filled with imagery but allows a bit of snicker humor!)
Phil
Going back to that symbol that was puzzling people (the sun/wind/rain), I can actually see it and understand it.
The top circle with the little spikes is the sun; the three lines with curly ends would be wind (a way to demonstrate air); and the lines underneath is rainfall.
Pretty clever!
I see it as well, now. Still, as Brian said it have a certain deja-vu feel of evoking older iconographs, and in particular the Eye.
Phil, I like how your correctly spelled name is of an appropriately bigger font than the title, as it should be. ;)
Also, as you did on the Nitpickers ST Guides, did you include a mini biography and a new picture of yourself to be shown on either the back cover or inside of it? Color, of course. And no doubt you've dedicated this book to your family, as expected, but will you dedicate the sequel, or whatever your second book will be, to all of us nitpickers? Please! Please! Please! As you can see I'm not above shameless begging, but only of course for a good reason.
Greetings All!
Sorry I haven't responded soon...been away for Thanksgiving! Trust you all had a wonderful one!!
Okay...as for the symbol...I wanted something that would be remenicent of ancient iconographs so it sounds like that succeeded! ;-)
As for the size of my name that was Sonny's idea!
No author picture in the book. Short biography. The book *is* decided to the family. ;-) Not sure who will get the dedication in next!
Phil
And a belated Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Phil.
Completely OT, but what the hey. B&N shows that people who orderd SWR also ordered:
Quote:People who bought this book also bought:
• Fahrenheit 451 Ray Bradbury
• 1984 George Orwell, Erich Fromm (Afterword)
• Atlas Shrugged Ayn Rand, Leonard Peikoff
• The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass Stephen King, Dave McKean (Illustrator)
• Ender's Game (Ender Series #1) Orson Scott Card
\flattery {Worthy company for Phil, IMO. }
On the other hand, it strongly implies that the Chief has got some sales via B&N!
Wow!
Sales already! Hmmm. How very nice! ;-)
Phil

Sonny Carder, eh? You didn't happen to name the ill-fated Captain Robert Carder after him, did you?
