The Eclipse : Part 1

Decent buildup. I like the storyline for the Petrelli's and Bennett's. Aside from the association between abilities and the eclipse they seem like the only consistancy going on. The biggest gripe I have about this chapter is that the shadow of a lunar eclipse (is that the right one?) does not cover that big an area. It makes a small swath and that's it. Also, is it possible to have two eclipses like that in so short a time frame?

Why is Mohinder's mutation affected by the eclipse? His ability was synthetic, in which case the formula he's trying to develop should also not work. Assuming that Arthur got the artsy precognition ability from Peter he should've also got Angela's dream precognition. It makes for some nice visuals but he doesn't seem like the sort who would just sit around and draw.

The thing between Elle and Gabe was cute at first but now it's just awkward. The first time we see Elle she's a sadistic, unreliable company girl who has to beg her father to send her on assignments, and only ones for him it looked like. Next she's a helpless whiner because her ability has a short, pun intended, and she wants it gone. Then, in a flashback, we see a semi-capable operative working with Noah and it seems like she actually has a heart. Now she's an ambitious, manipulative partner of the man who killed her father, who she successfully turned yet anther way. Those two are perfect for each other, their characterization keeps getting changed.

Daphne needed braces when she lost her speed power. However, she seemed to walk just fine when she didn't have her speed near the Haition.

As above, I'm confused about the eclipse. I seem to remember that someone said that it was a "worldwide" event, but isn't that impossible?

According to a letter writer whose letter was printed in an issue of TV Guide (this week's I believe), yes, that's correct. Only 167 mile-wide area exists in which the eclipse could be viewable, precluding its simultaneously invisibility in Kansas, Haiti and New York.

This is the first episode in which the comic book store appeared, right? I notice that it's called Sam's Comics, and that this is one of the last episodes produced prior to the departure of writer/producer Jeph Loeb, whose late son was named Sam.

Has anybody wondered if there's more to this eclipse than meets the eye? That could explain its unusual properties.
