Dual

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Heroes: Volume 3 (Villians): Dual
By inblackestnight on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - 10:10 am:

The title of this chapter is actually Duel, but War is close enough for all intents and purposes. A decent ending to a mediocre volume, so it's fitting I suppose. It would've been nice for Nathan to explain his reasoning a little more, because it makes little sense, but taking the side of the villian needs no explanation it seems.

How did Sylar get to the Company from Pinherst so fast? It's good to see more than one place with a containment facility but weren't those other guys locked up in Odessa? Most surveillance systems don't have an audio feature, unless Sylar left the intercom on and if he did why did he have to call Claire on the phone? Did Sylar really go there to find Angela and why didn't he try to get abilities from the others? If the explosion somehow knocked out the glass in his head, or the pathologist takes it out, he will be fine. He seemed pleased with himself when taunting Claire with truth but what did expect? Try to save her adopted father and biological mother over her grandmother whom she barely knows and doesn't trust, tough choice.

Knox, the fear guy, and that other fire dude comes down to the lab to essentially help Peter destroy it because "if everybody has powers we won't be so special." All of a sudden they have a change of heart? What did they think Arthur was trying to do? So this formula is "highly combustable", for dramatic effect I'm sure; would that be ok to inject into our bodies? Mohinder seems to be ok now, and it looked like Peter got his old ability back, or just flight.

Ando's new ability is interesting, and convenient. After seeing what it did to Matt why did Daphne touch Ando while sayin "what did you do?" Daphne certainly picked up on how to control her hyped-up speed with Ando to perfectly go back in time to get Hiro and return quickly, even though she had never done it before. Hiro should've done more than just rip up the formula page and throw it on the floor.

Just because Stan Lee was on the show doesn't mean they can use all his ideas. Hunting down all the 'special' people and locking them up sounds alot like X-Men once again. Are they going to put them on an island and suppress their abilities too like Genosha(?) in the next volume? We do however get yet another Star Trek alum, the third I believe, Michael Dorn appears to be the President next season.

He couldn't. Daphne grabbed him. That's why he yelled at Ando when they got back.

No no, I meant when Hiro and Daphne got back to Issac's place after taking it from Tracy in Arthur's office Hiro ripped it up and tossed the pieces on the floor in a celebratory manner.

Daphne went so fast that she could go back in time. But how was she able to go forward in time. Run counter-clockwise for the past and clockwise for the future?

By ScottN on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 - 5:10 pm:

Terik:

Daphne goes back in time by running faster than light.

Daphne goes forward in time by running just slightly slower than light (time dilation).

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

This was the last episode written and produced by Jeph Loeb prior to his departure from the series.

She runs faster than the speed of light? Yeah, right. The wind resistance alone would tear her apart. Ever stick your hand out the window at 70 mph? Multiply that by 15 zillion times.

Not to mention the shock waves, the sonic boom, the pounding her knees would take, etc. And I don't even want to think about the wind chill factor.

By Luigi_novi (Luigi_novi) on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 - 1:19 am:

I was thinking about that too, and then figured that the creators could simply cite a Speed Force-type of energy to explain that away, as DC Comics does with its Flash family of speedsters.

By ScottN on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 - 7:38 am:

I agree, BSP, but even without the faster-than-light stuff, she'd be shredded.

By inblackestnight on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 - 7:30 pm:

Did she ever say how fast she could run before she traveled FTL? I ask because it's probably at least faster than sound and would be uncomfortable if she is in fact unprotected. It would've been nice if something like that was mentioned, and how she would return once she went back 16 years, but Luigi is probably correct in saying they could pull something from multiple sources to explain it.

Sure... you'll buy Peter exploding and still being alive, but Daphne not getting shredded by running really fast is a deal breaker... whatever...

It's called suspension of disbelief. Get some.

By inblackestnight on Monday, May 25, 2009 - 9:57 am:

Although I don't think suspending disbelief, or as The Chief says "deal in reality", on a nitpickers website applies, it was an issue for some because Daphne was going much faster than her actual ability allowed her, unlike Peter who would be protected by both Ted's and Claire's ability. I'm not sure who you were directing your post at anon but I was getting at that very thing with my previous post pointing out that since she hasn't been injured when running before, and Ando's ability enhances others', naturally it should extended that protection to greater speeds. Personally, I was more surprised at how effeciently she was able to time travel on her very first attempt than anything else.
