Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: Primeval: Season 3: Episode 7
Dracorex (late Cretaceous) ... and Sir William (mediaeval)

I suppose we have to allow more willing suspension of disbelief than usual regarding Sir William’s (and the boy’s) use and understanding of modern-day English.

One day they’re going to have to come up with a viable explanation of why the anomalies always open within a short distance of the ARC.

To the best of my recollection, this is the first time that both sides of an anomaly have been in the exact same place.

Sarah seems to have forgotten that anomalies can close with no notice. Going through one was unbelievably stupid of her – she could have got stranded. And the medieval fashion show beforehand in the shop seemed to be nothing more than filler.

Abby aims her tranquilliser pistol at Becker to stop him from shooting the dracorex but doesn’t even try to shift her aim to the creature as it runs towards her and Becker. And even when Becker lies on the ground saying he’ll kill it if it comes any closer, she argues with him instead of trying to trank it. It is actually possible that she shot it as it charged at Becker and that it fell because the trank was taking effect rather than passing out from its injuries, but we never saw her aim or shoot at it. So – either bad scripting or terrible editing.

However, I liked Becker nonchalantly eating a strawberry at the end of the scene.

I loved Sir William’s anguished face at finding the church in ruins. But considering how different the surrounding area was (and smelled), it’s a miracle that the horse found its way there on its own.

The hair of the stuntman who rode off with Sarah was too long for it to have been the actor who played William.

When William raises his sword for the last time, with no indication of what he’s going to do with it, it’s amazing that Becker doesn’t shoot him to be on the safe side. And further poor editing – there was far too long a shot on the leaking container, which suggested that something dramatic was going to come of the leak.

Possibly the weakest episode of this season (and not just because of the total absence of Lester!) – though worth it for the final scene with Connor and his ‘army’!

No Lester! Argh! Although his absence may have been to explain the new appalling haircut I saw him sporting!

Is this supposed to explain the presence of dragons? Are we supposed to assume that every dragon is a dinosaur or that every dragon is a dracorex (nice circular naming then!)? If so, why has there been more than one dragon reported in the Middle Ages/Dark Ages etc.? They can't all have come from one anomaly. I thought that only one doorway opens up from each time line, so all those other dragons must have been other dinosaurs (in which case, why do they look so similar) or this anomaly is opening up all over the world (remembering China is big on its dragons).

Why is Connor allowed to rush off back to help Abby, when Becker....Becker?...Soldier Boy has just said it's vital that they find Sir William right away, and it's only been speculated that he's gone to the church. What if he hadn't been there?

Oh yes, the use of english! Particularly when a) they started with him speaking Latin and b) it would have been enjoyable to show kids that actually much of their modern day language is based on Latin (and other languages besides). I certainly enjoyed using my 'Latin muscles' if only very briefly. They had a golden opportunity, alas, wasted.

Ahah! I believe that the ARC has an 'attraction' for anomalies. Or it's a focal point or something. It's most likely been built because someone said, "Gee, lots of anomalies open near here, let's put the ARC in the same place, save lots of travelling".

There had better be some Lester next week....

You must have seen the Chris Moyles show too, Jessica. I surfed into the show shortly before the end and didn't even recognise Ben to start with. I can't help thinking that Ben's convinced that there'll be no Season 4 - there's no way that James Lester can carry off that haircut, so unless Ben's hair grows really quickly, he'll have to wear a wig if there is a Season 4!

I suppose it's just possible that - based on Season 1's episode with the mosasaur where the anomaly kept re-opening but in different locations - this particular late Cretaceous anomaly did keep opening in different places in mediaeval times.

Yes, the English was a shame but kind of to be expected, if only because the writers were too darned lazy to make an effort to put translation problems into the storyline.

I'm horribly afraid that Ben is convinced there is no season 4, because there will be no season 4 for Ben!

I saw an advert for the Chris Moyles show, I didn't actually watch the programme, although it might have been worth it for Ben.

I was watching "Mirrors" last night, and Danny turned up in that - he gets about a bit! My boyfriend insists he was in "Lock, stock and two smoking barrels" as well.

I wonder if certain anomalies open in different places and some open in the same place all the time? I think that they are building towards finding a map for them though, so I'm thinking that they must be fairly anchored - is this not what the artifact is? And a key to opening anomalies - if I have to spell "anomalies" one more time, I am going go mad! Anamolies. Anamalies. Onamolies.

Or you could go the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre route and call it "a big hole"!
