Future insects (and predators). Jack goes through an anomaly.

What is it with the writers of this series and their idiotic and constant portrayal of the military as a complete bunch of buffoons? There were umpteen examples in this episode, yet again.

I liked Connor and Becker arguing like a couple of kids about who gets to sit in the front seat of the car!

Why does Danny stand still outside the garage while the insect looms over him? I’m not convinced that he actually saw the sports car coming, and even if he did he would never have had the time to calculate whether the car would hit the insect or whether the driver would have time to brake when he saw it.

I was about to complain that, yet again, only Becker is with the team at the anomaly at first, but there does seem to be a back-up vehicle arriving just as the insect gets splatted by the sports car.

Great lines:
Abby (trying to explain away the anomaly detector): “It’s a Satnav, for work.”
Jack: “Right, so you can get from the penguins to the puffins without getting lost.”

As the invitation to the Chinese reception was addressed to Mr James Lester, this seems to be the first official confirmation that he’s not a Sir in the post-Claudia universe.

Why didn’t the soldiers guarding the anomaly have the ARC’s phone number on speed-dial? And yet they do have Connor’s mobile number programmed in, as that’s the only way that Jack could have known who was calling later.

In the scene with the artefact at the ARC, the yellow jumper that Connor’s wearing looks like something out of classic Trek from a distance!

I had the subtitles on, and rolled my eyes when they had Connor saying, “I’ll finally be able to finish the work that Carter started.” However, a split second later it sounded like he did say “Carter.” I can only think that Andrew-Lee’s accent slipped and he said Cutter’s name in a more southern accent than usual.

What’s the point of having a security gate at a place that has such an obvious gap in the fence a few yards away? And where the heck did Jack get that old-fashioned Chopper bike from?!

Jack was still accelerating as he headed into the anomaly. He may have been terrified by the insect but if he hadn’t gone through, he would have smashed straight into the wall.

Jack tells Connor and Abby over the phone that the soldiers are dead ... and still only Becker goes to the location with the rest of the team.

Why hasn’t Danny been told (or read reports) about future predators before now?

I suppose it was the best he could do in the circumstances but I still snorted when Becker attached a silencer to his gun after being told that the predators can see sound, as it wasn’t likely to make that much difference.

Why is Abby such a brat in this episode? Even her concern for her brother doesn’t justify her behaviour towards the rest of her team. She even seems totally unbothered when Connor lures the predator away to his potential death, and appears to be completely lacking in any relief when he and Becker turn up later.

Why does Abby put her hand over Danny’s heart as the predator approaches? Even if he understands and can instantly slow his heart rate (which is unlikely), it still wouldn’t be enough to make the predator blind to them.

Knowing how fond the writers are of killing off major characters, I was wailing at the potential loss of Becker and wouldn’t have been at all surprised if he’d not made it back.

The hand-held camera work got annoying after a while – I was close to getting motion sickness!

Why is only Sarah – who by her own admission is terrified of insects – guarding the anomaly? Are the military permanently on a tea break?

It seems that brattiness runs in the Maitland genes. Why Danny or Connor didn’t punch Jack for his “So?” reaction to Becker’s apparent death is a mystery to me.

Stabbing the predator by breaking the coach’s skylight isn’t very bright – it just leaves a way in for others.

There may eventually be a reason for their physical similarity, but I was convinced that it was Christine who was being helped by Wilder, and was consequently bewildered when Danny later told Lester that he didn’t know who the woman was.

The editing in this series is rubbish. Even using a slow replay of the insect-eye(s) view of Sarah, it isn’t apparent that she’s getting a box to put over it. Instead we have to infer it from the way that she drags the box over to the table and then sits on top of it.

Danny reports to Lester without having had the slash in his neck treated. Who knows what lurgies could be in a predator’s claws?

One of the drawings in Eve’s book looks (probably deliberately) like Helen.
