I absolutely adored Lester’s roadworks tantrum at the beginning of the episode.

Do beetles usually roar?!

Is Ben Miller wearing a wig? When he first got out of the car it looked suspiciously like he was.

Does the ARC really have such vast funds that they can send a helicopter for James just to get him to a (non-essential) meeting?

It may have just been my recording, but when Abby and Matt come out of the elevator at the ARC, he says to her, “I need to know that you’re not gonna tell Connor,” but there’s a stutter in the sound so it comes out as “... not gonna tell C-Connor.” It’s almost like the editing went wrong.

Great lines:
Philip: “It’ll make use of [the anomalies].”
Connor: “To do what?”
Philip: “Solve the greatest problem facing mankind today.”
Connor: “What, it’s gonna work out why there’s always a sock missing after you’ve done the washing?”

Why are the EMDs so useless against the beetle even when they’re shooting it right in the mouth?

Could April be more of a cliché if she tried?!!

Loved the “You can’t have a tank!” conversation between Becker and Lester.

How come the beetles have never been attracted to vibrations above ground before? It’s inconceivable that there hasn’t been a spate of reports of missing people and big holes in gardens and parks. They try to explain it by having Abby say that the beetles didn’t know until now that there was a food source above ground, but that seems a bit of a stretch to me.

The CGI of the beetle in the back garden is amazing. The lighting and shadows are spectacularly good.

Why would the Home Office send in someone who doesn’t know what happens at the ARC? Even though she’s vetting Philip and he does more than work at the ARC, they ought to have taken Lester to the Home Office rather than the other way around.

Love Becker’s quirky and cheerful expression at Connor as he pump-loads his rifle.

Great line:
Lester: “If you were an insect, would you want to eat Connor?”

The EMDs have been established as not working. Even real guns don’t take the beetle down in the garden. So why – when the team arrives back near the roadworks – are they wielding EMDs again?

I liked Connor’s line about being on a non-moving escalator.

Presumably the beetles have been hibernating in that room for some time. How convenient that they instinctively moved into the one empty store in the area. However, if it has “coming soon” signs outside and stock inside, why has nobody been inside for a while?

Loved Connor saying, “Blowing stuff up, eh, Becker? You’re gonna love that,” and Becker twirling his arms in a demonstration of the future explosion.

At last Abby shows some emotion about her boyfriend and his impending death. And I loved the interchange between them about dating after he’s gone.

I’d love to know whether the beetles in the store were CGI or models, ‘cause they looked really good.

Connor looks painfully young as the beetles wake up.

Abby confronts Matt with her theory that he’s from the future. Are the head mics so well tuned that they’ll only pick up the voice of the person who’s wearing it, ‘cause he doesn’t take his headset off until after she has finished speaking.

This season is looking very promising indeed and is building nicely on the last episode of Season 4.

Philip says, "What you have is an interesting theory, but one based on guesswork."
Sounds more like a hypothesis, not a theory, at least, not in a scientific sense, which given they're talking about a scientific matter...

Philip claims the energy of the anomolies is free, safe, clean & limitless.
Free? Isn't the cost all manner of critters coming through?
Safe? See comment about critters.
Clean? The anomolies are punching holes through time & space & creating electromagnetic disturbances in the multi-tesla range & who knows what else they're doing?
Limitless? These things pop up all over the place for short periods of time. Not the sort of reliable, long running thing that constitutes a good source of energy.

What was that idiot at the backyard party thinking? Giant bug comes out & he just keeps sitting there & as it gets closer he holds out his hot dog? It'd have been much smarter to toss the hot dog at it to distract it while he got out of his chair & ran!
