I may frequently have some negative things to say about this series but by God they know how to fill an episode when they put their minds to it. I had this on full screen on my computer and so couldn’t see the time or how much of the episode was remaining, and I refused to mouse over the bottom of the screen to find out, but it seemed to go on for hours!

Great lines:
Lester: “I leave you for a matter of days and in that time you [Connor] nearly destroy the ARC and you [Matt] turn out to be either a visitor from the future or, in fact – and I think this is the more likely option – clinically mad.” (To Becker) “Don’t you have security checks for this sort of thing?”
Becker: “Sorry, sir. The machine that checks whether people are from the future was out of order.”
Lester: “I’ll do the sarcasm if you don’t mind.”

I assume that the above scene takes place before the preceding scene, otherwise why didn’t the ARC get an alert earlier?

Does Lester’s phone not have an alternative ring for an internal and external call? I can’t see any reason why he would need to answer an internal call with his full name – or any part of his name for that matter.

So is Emily now officially a member of the ARC staff?

The use of the hand-held camera when Becker and the team arrived at the town centre made me almost nauseous.

The T-rex must have treated Lucy really gently to have done so little damage to her.

There seems to be confusion about the name of Lucy’s friend. She says her name is Jenna and Matt initially calls her that, but when he tells her that Lucy is dead, I’m sure he calls her Gemma.

When Jenna/Gemma jumped out of the car, I rolled my eyes and said, “Darwinism, Matt – let her go.” And she certainly proved my point about her not deserving to live when she flailed about feet from the Rex’s mouth when all she had to do was reverse to get out of its reach. And by the time Matt told her about sixteen times to stay down inside the car and still she didn’t, I was quite willing to reach through the screen and strangle her myself.

Why does Matt tell her to run towards him when she has to go around the Rex when, as I said above, there’s a ton of space behind her and to either side which are easier to reach?

Oh, please, I know there’s a limited budget, but the sight of yet another mammoth on yet another motorway was a ludicrous re-use of old footage. And – apart from the T-rex - was there any creature that they hadn’t encountered before? (Also I note that they couldn’t even find the money to actually include the Precambrian worms – just their mist!)

Philip says they’re about to make history with New Dawn. I would have thought that, whatever New Dawn achieves and even if it does close down all the other anomalies, the main point of interest will be (a) all the creatures that will be left running around and (b) the interesting new developments globally after the magnetic poles have switched.

Jess says she’s sending out so many teams she’ll have to give them names. Firstly, just how many military people work at the ARC (and why have they always been on tea breaks up until now?) and secondly, if they’re all based at the ARC itself, they’re not going to be much use except for the anomalies that have opened in the London area. And apparently the rest of the world can just deal with its problems as best they can, ’cause there’s never any mention of the ARC going public and advising other countries how to build the locking devices.

Why is Becker’s team not Alpha team? They were the first ones in the field.

The underground anomaly doesn’t look big enough to allow a kaprosuchus through.

Why does Philip take the energy capsule from the EMD but leave the gun in the car? Why not just take the entire pistol?

It might be the foreshortened angle, but it looks as if the capsule is only just beyond the reach of Connor’s fingertips. So why doesn’t he use the pistol as an extension of his arm to swipe the capsule towards him instead of spending ages rooting out a magnet?

Why does New Dawn have to be initiated during convergence? Even if the man-made anomaly takes all the energy from the others, surely that will cease once they close? Where will it get its energy after that?

I was kind of surprised as Abby went into a joust with the kaprosuchus, seeing as how she has always wanted to keep the creatures alive in the past, and even when I realised what she was intending to do, was a little doubtful that she could be successful in not driving straight into it.

What triggers off the car alarm? It starts up just after Abby shoots the kaprosuchus but there don’t appear to be any cars near enough to have been set off by the motion of it falling and rolling over.

I loved the finger on the lips moment!

Why are some of the teams called teams but there’s also a Unit 8? What’s the difference?

Great lines:
Jess: “That’s the nicest thing that you’ve ever said to me.”
Lester: “I think it’s actually the nicest thing I’ve ever said to anyone, including my wife.”
Jess: “D’you mean it?”
Lester: “Every word. Now get back to work before we start crying and hugging. And if it’s personnel you need, I appear to be kicking my heels. What have you got for me in the field? Preferably something cuddly and vegetarian, ’cause this is my best shirt.”

What the hell kind of accent did that automated countdown at New Dawn have?! Her accent was even worse and more mangled than April’s!

“Did you really think you’d get away with this?” asks April in her most stereotypically villainous voice. She really should have been a bloke so she could have twirled her moustache, but I was amazed that an evil laugh didn’t follow.

Why didn’t Philip think to lock out the satellite terminals earlier than this, i.e. as soon as he was told that Matt was in the building, ’cause it was almost inevitable that Connor would follow if he could get free of the car.

I wondered for a while whether April would turn out to be a double agent.

April seems remarkably unchewed as Abby looks down at her body.

I squeed like the fangirl I am at the sight of Action!Lester with a big gun.

Love the tears of effort running down Connor’s face as he tries to shut down the device.

Why does the ADD show no anomalies after all the others around the world shut down? Does a man-made anomaly not register?

They refer to it as a Tyrannosaurus rex, but how can they be sure it's of the rex species?

When they were showing the reused footage, part of me wondered if this mass anomaly opening was all a fake engineered to trick Philip.
Sadly no.

So convergence is a natural phenomena that just happens to open anomalies that let through all manner of creatures from other times?
Kind of makes the people who believe the Earth will flip look downright mainstream.

Why not just smash the anomaly maker till it breaks? Yank wires, hit it with stuff, throw things in front of the beam, etc.

What was Abby trying to do when she was swinging wildly at the guard? Was that just badly choreographed or filmed at a bad angle?

Loved Lester's line, "My god! My new Jag's in the car park!"

So why didn't Lester take an anomaly locker with him to keep other nasties from coming through & scratching his Jag's paint job?

Why was Abby trying to rescue April? Did she borrow the Idiot Ball from Connor?

I was wondering if it would turn out that April was a clone of Helen.
Guess not.

Callie - So is Emily now officially a member of the ARC staff?
I was wondering that myself. Wasn't it a plot point last season that the ARC staff is supposed to be military or people like Abby & Connor who'd been around before that rule was imposed? Now it seems like they'll take anyone wandering through an anomaly who can handle a gun. (Admittedly when all those anomalies opened up that would have made sense. ;-)

the interesting new developments globally after the magnetic poles have switched.
Yeeeeeeeeeessss... you'd think such a magnetic mess up would have serious repercussions on computers & other such electronic devices...

Oh, watching the T-rex run around London was extra amusing because of this cartoon. (Relates to an earlier strip 3 cartoons earlier.)

Was rewatching this & noticed a few more things.

The opening scene with all those tasty, tasty humans running down street instead of going into the buildings where they would be out of sight & a lot harder to get.

When Matt trips the T-rex with his car you can just see it being turned over (watch carefully), but then it's back on its wheels.

For that matter there doesn't seem to be any damage to the car despite T-rex's being in the multi-ton range.

Baker Street Plaza... and no reference to Sherlock Holmes? ;-)

The T-rex's nostrils are shown at the top of its snout. However, a few years back I read an article that scientists had started to rethink this idea. Basically artists put the noses up there because that's where the nasal passages were in the skulls, but it would make more sense for the fleshy openings to be closer to the creature's mouths so it would be easier to smell if something was wrong before they got it in their mouths.

Connor appeared to jump back into the anomaly not be pulled in.

Just realised that Keith's a genius:

Comments in episode 4:
Callie - I was kind of hoping that Lester would turn up at the last minute to save the day by aborting the auto-destruct and/or lifting the lockdown.
Keith - Or just saying, "I go away for one day..." ;-)

Quote from episode 5:
Lester: “I leave you for a matter of days ...

You only just realized I'm a genius? 8-o

I'm sorry, was there any reason I should have thought this before? ;-)
