Two Or More Other Projects Star Trek Alumni Were Also In Together

Nitcentral's Bulletin Brash Reflections: ClassicTrek: The Classic Trek Sink: Two Or More Other Projects Star Trek Alumni Were Also In Together

By MarkN on Saturday, February 11, 2006 - 2:38 am:

Frinstance, tonight I watched To Kill A Mockingbird, which I don't think I ever had before (excellent movie, btw; I highly recommend it to anyone who's never seen it, or if you have then see it again!) and discovered that it's absolutely loaded with several Star Trek alumni. Perhaps the two you'd be most aware of are Brock Peters (Adm. Cartwright, Joseph Sisko) as Tom Robinson and William Windom (Capt. Decker) as Prosecutor Gilmer.

The rest (all surprising to me) are:

John Megna as the toothy kid, Dill Harris. I thought he was the tall, skinny redhead, Tommy Starnes, in And the Children Shall Lead, but that was Craig Hundley instead. However, Megna played Fat Little Boy in Miri. I knew of Peters and Windom, of course, but when I saw Megna it got me to wondering who else in this cast is an ST alumni, and boy was I surprised to find so many more.

Frank Overton, Sheriff Heck in Mockingbird, was also Elias Sandoval in This Side of Paradise.

Richard Hale, Nathan Radley in Mockingbird, played Goro in The Paradise Syndrome.

By John A. Lang on Saturday, February 11, 2006 - 7:41 pm:

Marina Sirtis & Kirstie Alley were both in "Blind Date"...both of them "allowed" us to see their "goodies".

By Adam Bomb on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 - 10:12 am:

Marina Sirtis & Kirstie Alley were both in "Blind Date..."

You don't mean that goofy Bruce Willis/Kim Basinger film from 1987? Neither Ms. Alley nor Ms. Sirtis were in that. I liked that film, even though it's a bit too much on the slapsticky side.

George Takei and John De Lancie were in a 2004 film titled Patient 14. (It's also known as The Eavesdropper.) I would never have heard of it, except I stumbled on to it on Lifetime one night. And, it's not very good.

Messrs. Shatner and Nimoy were in an episode of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. titled "The Project Strigas Affair." They ran this at the New York Star Trek convention in 1973. I enjoyed it, although in Joan Winston's book The Making of The Trek Conventions, she stated that the screening didn't go over too well with the fans. I was there, and I don't remember that.

By Anonymous22 on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 - 11:42 am:

Hey Adam, I have it! on tape, Man from Strigas affair. Also Kirk and Spock were in Tj Hooker and did some ol Western Airline commercials going to Hawaiie!

Mr. Sulu and Kor were together in a Hawaiie 5 0 episode.

sidenote- I was with a friend of mine at the Trek convention in the 70s, in L. A- Marriott Someone said Hi Leonard, and all of us turn to look expecting mr. Vulcan. Wrong guy!

By ScottN on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 - 5:58 pm:

Not the Bruce Willis flick, this 1984 film.

By Benn on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 - 6:33 pm:

also, Kirk and Chekov were in a Columbo episode - Anonymous22

However, neither Shatner nor Koenig shared a scene together. Walter Koenig portrayed a detective at the scene of the crime who briefly worked with Columbo on the murder Shatner's character committed.

Live long and prosper.

By Benn on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 - 7:24 pm:

He was also one of the two murderers that Columbo outright disliked. So much so that the Lt. lost his cool with him. (Robert Conrad's murderer was the other one that had that effect on the Lt.)

Live long and prosper.

By Anonymous22 on Wednesday, March 01, 2006 - 10:41 am:

Lt. Savvick was with Cpt. Janeway in a Cheers episode?

correct me if I'm wrong then

By ScottN on Wednesday, March 01, 2006 - 8:33 pm:

Yes, you're mistaken. Kate Mulgrew did in fact guest on Cheers as Sam's girlfriend, but it was while Shelley Long was still on Cheers. Kirstie Alley didn't join the cast until a year or so later.

So, they were both on Cheers, but not at the same time.

By ccabe on Thursday, March 02, 2006 - 6:24 pm:

On last Tuesday's Boston Legal, Mrs. Crane is trying to talk Denny into moving to Hawaii. Denny replies, "What am I gonna do? Beam myself to Boston every morning?"

By John A. Lang on Thursday, March 02, 2006 - 7:49 pm:

Rene Auberjonois was also in "The Hindenburg".

By Todd Pence on Friday, March 03, 2006 - 1:54 pm:

DeForrest Kelley played a doctor in a Bonanza episode which also guested the Enterprise's original doctor, John Hoyt. Hoyt's character in this episode was trying to prosecute Kelley's character for murder.

By John A. Lang on Friday, March 03, 2006 - 8:04 pm:

Marina Sirtis also co-starred in:
"The Wicked Lady"
"Paradise Lost"
"Terminal Error" and
"Net Games"

In the first two, we are priveledged to see Marina's "goodies"

By KAM on Saturday, March 04, 2006 - 8:23 pm:

Maybe he's counting each breast as an individual?

There was a Diagnosis Murder ep that had several Star Trek alum in it. Wil Wheaton, I think either Walter Koenig and/or George Takei. Not a very good episode, though.

Not sure if Ronny Cox & John DeLancie ever appeared on the same Stargate SG-1 episode or not.

The cartoon Gargoyles on the other hand had many voices from Trek. Johnathon Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Kate Mulgrew. Several of them definiely voiced characters in the same eps.

By KAM on Saturday, March 04, 2006 - 8:29 pm:

Board Title: Two Or More Other Projects Star Trek Alumni Were Also In Together
Shouldn't that read "Other Projects Two or More Star Trek Alumni were in Together"?
Or even "Other Projects Two or More Trek Alumn were in" since the 2 or more implies together.

By Todd Pence on Monday, March 06, 2006 - 2:16 pm:

Both Walter Koenig and George Takei (or at least their characters) are alumni of Jefferson High School, setting of the 1960's High School drama Mr. Novak. Two of the regular members of the faculty of Jefferson High (Jeane Bal as Assistant Principal Jean Pagano and Vince Howard as teacher Pete Butler) also appeared together in "The Man Trap". Some of the other "students" to pass through the halls of Jefferson High include Kim Darby and Michael J. Pollard (both from "Miri"), Robert Walker, Jr. and Patricia McNulty (both from "Charlie X"), Terri Garr ("Assignment: Earth"), Bonnie Beecher ("Spectre of the Gun") and Kathryn Hayes ("The Empath.")

Odo: I got a Klingon kind of Day.

Dax: Why is Kor here??

they could have explained their looks, vastly different from the Northern Klingons

By ScottN on Thursday, March 23, 2006 - 8:44 pm:

No, the "Big 3": Kor, Kang, and Koloth, all appeared as ridgeless and ridged Klingons.

And the "Northern/Southern" thing is non-canon, coming from FASA.

By the 74s tm on Friday, March 24, 2006 - 11:29 pm:

Sulu and Pilar (Howdoyouspellit) from Wolf in the Fold
were in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea's Silent Sabotours

By Benn on Saturday, March 25, 2006 - 1:05 am:

The John Wayne movie, True Grit has several cast members who have appeared in various episodes of TOS. For instance, Kim Darby, Miri ("Miri") stars as Mattie Ross. Also in the film are

Alfred Ryder ("Defense Attorney, Mr. Goudy") - Professor Crater ("The Man Trap")

Jeff Corey ("Tom Chaney") - Plasus ("The Cloud Minders")

Ron Soble (Capt. Boots Finch") - Wyatt Earp ("Spectre of the Gun")

John Fiedler ("Lawyer J. Noble Daggett") - Hengist ("Wolf In the Fold")

And while not related to TREK, I would like to note that one of the condemned men hung in Ft. Smith early in the film was Jay Silverheels. I guess ol' Tonto must've double-crossed the Lone Ranger and got turned in.

Live long and prosper.

By MarkN on Sunday, March 26, 2006 - 9:54 pm:

I'd forgotten about Nichelle Nichols' being in The Supernaturals, but since it'd been so long since I'd seen it, like about 20 years, I'd forgotten who else was in it.

The first time I remember seeing Michael J. Pollard was in the Lost In Space episode, The Magic Mirror, the one ep from that show that I could remember the most from: The Bloop going into the mirror and Penny falling into it (though I wrongly thought it was the smaller mirror they had, not the much bigger ornate mirror), Pollard, the black dimensional world within the mirror, the one-eyed furry monster and Smith of course also getting into the mirror and being scared of the monster. I've owned the Season 1 DVD set for 2 years and hardly watched any of it till the last couple of weeks, so it was kinda fun to see that episode for the first time in about 35 years! With my selective memory it's amazing that I could even remember anything from back then at all!

As for the movie Blind Date I got it as a blind buy at Best Buy within 2 years ago. It's not very good but then neither is its director, Nico Mastorakis.

Rene Auberjonois and Ed Lauter (Lt. Cmdr. Albert, The First Duty, TNG) were also in the gahdawful 1976 King Kong and 10 years later in 3:15, playing Principal Horner and Moran, respectively.

Mark Lenard and Michael Ansara were also separate episodes of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Lenard was also Aaron Stempel in Here Come The Brides, probably the only other series he was best known for outside of the two Treks.
